Hey all,
I took a box of near new sci-fi books to the cook exchange and got cash for them... so what did I do with the cash? Got new decks of course! :D
It seems everyone is getting the Gill tarot at the moment... Me too. I really like it. It is kind of a simple deck, with the keywords on everything... but it is nice. :)
And the Spiral... I think I am disappointed with that. Mostly the difference in styles between the Majors, which I really love, and the minors bothers me most. I have only just gotten it so I may find out more by reading the LWB... but does anyone know why seemingly different era's are present in the Majrs and minors? I wish all the cards were like the majors...
Just thought I would share! :D

yay! congrats.
my two fav decks.
as for the spiral, i think you might come around to them in a while. the minors are really very expressive in their own way.
just take a look at that 7 of cups.
or the 3 of pentacles, and the 3 of swords!
the minors might be different from the majors but they still carry the meaning in a really strong way. and i think they are quite charming.
but then i am a fan of this deck and have used it for my main reading deck for a long time.
the gendron has a similar difference between the majors and minors and i know that i think the minors are far better then the majors in that deck. with the spiral - i love them both equal.

YAY!!! Kayne finally bought a deck he doesn't like because of ME!!! :P :D *LOL*
Let the Spiral grow on you. It HAS NOT grown on me at all, since lately I was busy, but it has got potential.
I think you were warned against the difference in the cards in my thread (})): Majors. Scenes and Courts all have a different style, but I find it awesome and appropriate in all of them.
I believe Spiral's Minors are THE BEST rendition among Rider-Waite-inspired decks (I did not post this in my thread :P *LOL*); at least, the best I have seen so far. Some have nice touches and addition to the original RW, like the 7 of Cups that Jema mentioned for example. And the artwork is far more charming than Smith's pictures - the 3 of Swords, the 6 of Cups... I also like the "contextualisation" of the cards, like in the 3 of Swords and 6 of Cups (again), or the 6 of Wands for example...
I don't understand what you mean with "ERA", but for sure the Majors have NO ERA carrying sheer mythological figures (The Fates, Iris, Eos, Hecate...). The Minors are kinda anglo-french 19th century, ala Mary Poppins *LOL* But I really appreciate the way they are drawn and conceptualised.
Now... THE GILL. I am a bit angry, Mr Kayne.
First off, you are doing something MAINSTREAM, and that is not good. (;) *LOL*)
And then, it is a simple deck, but not a simplistic one. And I think also THOTH has got keywords on everything... You'll see what a challenege it is to read with it, when you get a bunch of coloured minors and are not used to it... :P
Don't take The Naughty Lady for granted. }) *LOL* :D

Hi Kayne
glad you like the gill as for the spiral...it has to grow on you like some already said...the minors are different but if you look at for example the five of swords its a totally new way of looking at the standart RW image , and take a look at the three of pentacles...and the ten of pentacles.....there is so many depth in this deck..it does not leave the traditional meanings but it puts it in an different perspective...
O my i just love this deck, can you tell:)
Any way on behave of the psiral, please give it a change :)
Love and light

Hi Kayne! I compliment your choices :) ... Granted nothing will EVER touch the Cosmic Tribe but these are nice decks to work with :P. The Gill, like the CT is Thoth based so you will probably have no difficulty adjusting, particularly since you are already used to "moody" minors as that is what the CT has.
As for the Spiral think of the difference between Majors and Minors as follows ... spirit and the mundane. The majors in this deck reflect the archetypes. The minors every day life. The difference between them was very deliberate.
I hope you enjoy them both ... but do not become a traitor ;) :P

Hi Kayne,
I too love my Spiral and wanted to know more about the cards, I managed to get the book.
The Minors are in a different style to the Majors because Kay Steventon thought she had been guided by her Grandmother while designing her tarot so she decided to use the late 1800's for the Minors to honour her. The Majors are based on Kay Steventons interest in astrology and mythology of different cultures. Hope this helps :)

Wow! Your advice and info on the Spiral has really helped. Next time I look through this deck (I have not even shuffled it yet... it's still in order... :P) I will look at it with refreshed interest! :D Thankyou!!!

Kayne, don't give up on the Spiral just yet; it is one of the 'deepest' decks I own and can give very intuitive and accurate readings! A lot of thought went into this deck. It has great symbolism that pulls you into the cards.
