I can highly recommend the Legend Arthurian deck when you are well versed in Arthurian lore, for beginners it will be too difficult (even with the book).
The LOTR deck is not so to my taste altough I love the LOTR books but the deck *ugh*

Hi Adrian,
If you do a thread search in this forum you will find several threads where we discuss Legends. Personally I really like this deck and would highly recommend it over the Lord of the Rings deck.
I do not understand some of the associations used in the LOTR deck such as Gollum as the Fool ... I would have assigned Frodo personally. Then there are the little sticky details such as the hobbits not having hair on their feet *LOL*. The artwork also has large borders and small images.
The Legends deck has beautiful artwork, and the book is very good. It provides you with some background on the Legends. I have known several poeple who have worked with this deck and love it. I am yet to find anyone who has said that about the LOTR deck.

LoTR. I don't own the deck, but I have seen the cards. I even bought one for my bf. The artwork is very nice. However, it does have a few flaws such as... how the characters look like... why this character was chosen for this card... etcetera.
But bf seems to like it - not to read with but for collection only. :)

I have the Legends Arthurian Deck and I think I'm one of the only people on this planet that *doesn't* like it that much :) I think the artwork is beautiful, and I'm pretty familiar with Arthurian lore, but I just can't read with it.
I would love to see a new LOTR deck, with better images (perhaps based on the movies) and different association. Heck, if I was an artist, I'd paint it myself.

I'm another one who thinks the Legend is nice and pretty, but can't really connect with the art. I have seen the cards, but they don't call to me. I have not seen Lord of the Rings, but I have heard it is generally not that great. Many people do like Legend, though.

I don't own the Legend deck, but I do have the Lord of the Rings deck.
I haven't read with it much yet, but so far I don't think it's all that great.
I find that the symbol at the top right hand corner (for the game) and the flavour text at the bottom are quite distracting - especially the flavour text, since it takes up so much space.
Also, there's a great deal of border (top, bottom, and left edge), and as a result the pictures are rather small.
However, the colours are rich and bold, which to me makes up somewhat for the deck's failings. (I'm a big sucker for colour :)
Though it makes the small size of the pictures seem even more of a loss; such lovely colours really need more room, IMHO ;)
Ultimately, whether or not you get the deck (or any other deck, for that matter) is up to you and your preferences. Even if everyone else in the world doesn't like a certain deck, you may find that you do like and read well with it.
Hey - I might give the LOTR deck another go once I'm done with the Rider-Waite and Kalevala - maybe I'll be one of the few who find it works well with me ;)
Hmm. I'll stop rambling now ;p Sorry for the spam...

I have to agree what has already been said about the LOTR - I myself cannot really connect to it, although I liked the books. Some of the associations for each card are - well, strange and not always what I *thought* it *should* be...
The artwork/design is ok, and I like the pictures - at least most of them. but for doing readings... it simply doesn't work out with me and the deck...
I prefer the Legends one much more. although I admit, first I had to get to know this deck to work with it. But after *working* with it and studying the book, which is very good, it becomes more familiar and it opens up to doing readings with it as well.
I guess, in the end, it is really up to you what deck you personally like better.

Helruna
