This is one of the decks that I was curious about, but always ended up passing on when it came to actually buying it. It called to me today when I saw it in the store, so I got it, half-expecting it to be not that great after all. At home, I looked through it and found it readable, nice to look at, and a deck I can actually do some work with.
And it was just down the shelf from a Druid Animal Oracle. I could not resist the temptation. So now I have two new decks, when I should be saving money... but these two are worth it.
They had a Faery Wicca deck too, but the picture of the Wonderbra Queen (or whatever she is) on the side of the box turns me off every time...

The Old English is higher on my wishlist since I saw it is *also* published here in Italy by Dal Negro - so I don't have to order it via Net, but could also luckily (fingers crossed) stumble on it in the bookshop. I don't know what would happen if I saw it on the shelf. Maybe I would take it at once, provided I got the money with me.
The Majors are so darn cute. *LOL* They have a basic Marseille-like structure in the pictures, the subjects and scense are the same, only the artowork changes. And it has such a refined and elegant look. I probably need a deck like that, since mine tend to be dramatic, and I a tired of having to resort to Aquarian when reading for more adult people.
And the Minors are and are not pips. There are small scenes depicted beneath the suit-elements, and very detailed once at times, like in the 10s. They look really interesting, and since I plan to go back to Marseille for a while, the Old English could be a sort of helping stage in the process.
I don't have the guts to go to Alida and order it, I would order other decks. But if I saw this deck on the shelf, or was offered it in a possible trade, I could not resist it...

Hi, Kyrielle!
Glad to see these two decks beat their way into your collection! I've got both and find the OET very useful and clear. I've always loved illuminated manuscripts and that sort of artwork so I was very drawn to it. I think the little figures and scenes are wonderful.
Haven't done much with the Druid Oracle and a friend has fallen in love with it so I'll probably lend it out - do keep us posted on how you get on with it, though.

I have the Old English also. It is quite charming.
It hasn't been one of my main reading decks (usually the UW, then maybe the St Petersburg or VR), but it was the one I reached for on my birthday to pull a daily card and do a birthday spread (Ok! I thought my UW was downstairs, and I was too lazy to go down and get it, or I would have used it. Later I saw that it had been upstairs the whole time. I guess the OE really wanted to be used!)
It gave me the 9 of Cups as a daily card, which I thought was increadibly sweet. It really seemed to be trying to say "Birthday Wishes!" And it gave me a straight to the point reading on the health of a pet another time.
I think it may be trying to get me to use it more often. It is a lovely deck.

The Old English is indeed a great deck. I love the style of the illustrations. Just like illuminated manuscripts but with more lifelike colors. My only problem is reading the minors. I still haven't gotten to the point where I can read pip cards, and these don't emote like the Gill does. Perhaps I just need to work with it more. It was my very first deck and I do love it, especially because I study British history.

Yes, I will hopefully get this one at some stage. I wonder what others there are in this approximate sort of style? I was thinking circa 1000 A.D. Anglo Saxon illuminated manuscript too, Maybe "Bayeux Tapestry" even - A surfeit of swords, arrows and shields perhaps? :) Fwiw, Lo Sarabeo's "Enchanted" Tarot seemed a possible candidate?
