I think I know which fairy tales are on most of the cards, but there are a few I have some questions about. I know a few of you have the book and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to enlighten me? :* <---- kissing up!

Here are the cards I'm confused about:
High Priestess
Hierophant
Hanged One
Star
World
7 Swords
6 Swords
10 Rods
8 Rods
6 Cups
5 Cups
Knight Pentacles
10 Pentacles
8 Pentacles

Some of these seem very familiar... I just can't quite put my finger on which one they are from. I appreciate the help! And I absolutely LOVE this deck!

Hi Rhiannon, I have the book that goes with the Whimisal deck. Here is the ones you wanted:
High Priestess- The Fairy Godmother in Cinderella
Hierophant- Friar Tuck in Robin Wood
Star-The Blue Fairy in Nursery Rhyme Star Light, Star Bright
World- Glinda the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz
7 Swords-The Knave of Hearts from The Knave of Hears
6 Swords-Wynken, Blynken and Nod from Wnyken, Blynken and Nod
10 Rods-The Princess from The Goose Girl
8 Rods-Nursery Rhyme Row, Row, Row your Boat
6 Cups-Peter Pan and Wendy from Peter Pan
5 Cups-Captian Hook from Peter Pan
Knight Pentacles-Tom Thumb from Tom Thumb
10 Penacles-The Prince, Princess, Bird and Horse from The Golden Bird
8 Pentacles-The Socerer's Apprentice from The Socerer's Apprentice

Rhiannon, Some of these nursery rhymes I had never heard of myself! If I can be of any futher help looking up anything for you let me know.

Kyrielle  28 Sep 2002
I have never heard of a Blue Fairy in that rhyme, unless it has extra verses or something. I identify her with Pinocchio, even though I too have the Whimsical book. And I am so used to the Sorcerer's Apprentice being Mickey Mouse that it's kind of weird for him to be human. I like the Pied Piper in the Tarocchi della Fiabe role of Magician better than as the 5 of Pentacles. But I do really like this deck.

Hi Diana,

I don't know Winken, Blynken and Nod. If it isn't too long, could you post it here for us? pretty please :)

Rhiannon just got me curious, so I made a net-searched; guess what I got?
A site that shows all the cards.

So what is the result?
That I want this deck more...
Some cards are *BRILL!!!*, like the Six of Cups or the Five of Pentacles.

Since most are anglo-saxon tales and songs, I should get the book as well... Mpfh...

I really like this deck too. And since i don't know alot of the fairy tales i have bought the book. But thta was kindda dissapointing cause in the book they do tell you wich fairytale belongs to what card but they don't tell the story...:(

thanks for posting the poem too, that was great!

I believe the Hanged Man is the Fisherman's Wife, a tale I had not been familiar with.

I believe that lee is right that the hanged one is the fisherman's wife. Here's a link to the folktale...
the fisherman's wife

the 8 of cups is little miss muffet running away from the spider who sat down besider her... little miss muffet

Thanks, Hermit! I read the story and I still don't really understand why they chose her for that card... maybe if I think about it some more I'll get it.

Hi, Rhiannon, there are a lot of cards where I don't understand why they chose the story for the card... that's why I don't like this deck! :)

I have studied fairy tales, so I am familiar with nearly all of the ones used for the Whimsical. Still, there are a couple correspondances that don't make much sense. I like this deck, but I prefer the Inner Child Cards. The story correspondances make more sense in that deck.
