The "Mega Mini Kit"

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 25 Oct 2002, and now archived in the Forum Library.

"What a spankin' good idea!" I said as I stood in line to check-out at Barnes & Noble. I was refering to a little box, on a rack of many different boxes, with the word "TAROT" printed on it. It contained a booklet, (not your average LWB, but nothing GRANDE) a fold-out showing a nifty 4 card spread, and of course (what were you thinking!) a deck of 78 square, glossy Tarot cards! Yay!

I'd always wanted one of those mini Rider-Waite decks but the only store I knew that sold them wanted $10! But for a peasly little $8 I decided to get the "Mega Mini Kit". The art is very simple, I see astrological symbols and elementals hiding here and there, and the suits? Swords, Wands, Cups, and Pentacles.

All in all, I'd have to say this is THE perfect deck to take to the coffe-shop or bring to work. If anyone's got $8 lying around I'd suggest you get down to a B&N right this second!

Has anyone else seen this deck or do you own one? What do you think of it, is it something you use regularly or just as kind of a novelty item?

Peace y'all! :)

I may be wrong, but this sounds like the Tarot Nova by Julie Paschkis and Dennis Fairchild. Here is one previous thread about it. There are others, you might try doing a search for "tarot nova" and "paschkis."

Also, here is a review from Tarot Passages. I hope I have the right deck! :)

And here is a review on Aeclectic http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/nova/review.html

(Am I allowed to point to my own review? I hope so.)

well looks like i was in the same situation, waiting in line at b&n and saw the little box marked "tarot" and opened the little sample box and liked what i saw. i am just a beginner but i really can't wait to do a reading with them. i have to agree with you that it's perfect to take with you to the coffee shop or bring to work. they fit perfectly in my purse. as soon as i am comfortable with reading with my standard rw deck, i am going to give my mega mini a try.

Already placed an order for this Nova Tarot and will be getting mine in December!! :D

I want this deck!!! * LOL*

I have been curious as to what is the name of this pack. For all you English people, it is sold at Waterstones and WHSmith's. It costs £5.99. It is in a small 2.5" purple box, sold on special displays along with other smiliar sized boxes for other esoteric things.

It is quite a nice set actually, although the cards are a bit sticky at first, need to play with them to get them useable.

I would recommend getting them. Quite nice, especially for the price.

Is this a recent thread? I live about 30 miles from a B and N and don't want to make the trip if it's an old thread.

Osher  11 Dec 2002
The thread is from last month, I just thought that some of the English readers would like to know these cards are now on sale here, and where (I bought mine a fortnight ago, and saw them on sale today). The publishers have a website:
www.runningpress.com
The information on the box is:
ISBN 0-7624-1382-4
$7.95 US
$11.95 Canada

Hope this helps

Hi Juice,
Your second link is to the Tarot Nova which is by Dennis Fairchild and Julie Paschkis. It used to come with a small book on palm reading but they seem to have ditched that and turned it into a tarot kit. Don`t know what deck comes with your first link. The Taroto Nova is a lovely little deck, I`d thoroughly reccomend that you get it.

Love and light

Just to show you what an influence you people are having on my life... (hanging my head in contrition) I went immediately to the site and bought one of those decks! Are you happy now? Are you HAPPY?!

'Lo all,

Just a note on this lovely little deck.

When I purchased mine at Border's and brought it home, I discovered it was missing a card.

I wrote to the publisher asking for this card, but never heard from them. (Guess I can use the extra, "legal fine print" card to substitute for the missing card, but it sort of spoils the deck for me.)

I wouldn't mention his, but in an earlier thread a number of people mentioned encountering the missing cards problem. I believe some actually got a response and replacement from the publisher.

Talisman, I would recommend trying to contact them again. I had a marred card in a deck and had to try contacting the publisher various times, but in the end I got a whole new book/deck set at no additional cost. I also believe there was a thread where individuals having the missing card problem with the Tarot Nova did receive the missing card from the publisher. I guess what I am saying is that I encourage you to still try and get your missing card.

I found one with the palm reading book on amazon.co.uk here http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1561387568/
