Only one deck ? Really have to think about this... My favourite deck regularly changes... I love the halloween... I love the shapeshifter... and the legend arthurian...and robin wood...
Maybe I should let the cards decide for themselves which one it's gonna be - I can't decide !

'Lo all,
I voted for the "World Spirit."
I hope you all vote for another deck, 'cause then I can think I am in a world alone, and like something really different.
As for those of you who voted for ******, and both of you know who you are, you outta' be ashamed of yourselves. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but Deck X is the very single worst deck ever made.

No, I never voted, because you are only able to vote for one deck, and my favorite deck changes by the minute, so it wouldn't be fair to select just one, unless you were able to vote for, say, ten or twenty at a time.

I voted for Tarot of the Old Path which I like very much and find refreshing in the changes it has made through renaming some of the Major Arcana and in the art work.
However, on Saturday I purchased a copy of Shining Tribe and think this deck is quite extraordinarly beautiful and insightful.
The meanings of the art work and the written guide are simple and easy to remember.
At first I was put off by what seemed quite naive imagery but I was so wrong with this. Have a look at theis deck and see what you feel and think. Pollack uses poetry in her explanations of meaning and this enhances the spirit and content.

I voted for the Phantasmagoric Theater tarot. I like the offbeat artwork. It basically follows the meanings of the RWS but from a very different viewpoint.

I couldn't decide at all so I let the cards decide for themselves, I took one card from decks I used in the last months to see which one had the highest card and the halloween won easily with the only major and that being the judgment card so halloween it is :D
I'm actually very pleased with this, since I have this deck I used it a lot for daily draws and just looking through the deck or the book puts a smile on my face, and anyway it won fairly.

'Lo all,
Ah, Trogon, in ranting about Deck X, I didn't mean to suggest the Xultan (which I had to go look up). (By the way, I just love the John P. Marquand quote you use.)
Seems like everytime someone mentions a deck, I have to go look at the images, and read the reviews. Sometimes repeatedly, 'cause I have a poor memory.
Just generally, (and I mean in the vaguest way) (and 'cause I really love Tarot decks), I can sort of divide decks into two categories:
#1: Those I really like and find truly appealing, except for one or more cards which strike a jarring doesn't-work-for-me note. (I think evolution invented this to keep some from falling into the I-gotta-have-'em-all collector's abyss.)
#2. Decks I really don't care for, except there are one or more cards which seem almost perfect. Sometimes I can even like decks which otherwise would have no appeal except the backs are just stunning. I can almost always find some reason to like a Tarot deck.
'Cept of course, that confounded #@!!&!@ deck.

'Lo Jewel,
Never should have started this, and anyway I've ranted about it in the past.
I don't want to sneak up behind someone who uses and loves this plumb awful deck and throw a bucket of cold water on 'em.
'Sides, the fault was more with me than the deck, 'cause when it started to irritate me -- not until I got it home and took it out of the box -- I should have quit right there. Instead, I tried to work with it. Like trying to cure a toothache by chewing tin-foil.
My fault!

All this voting may lead to a tempory 'leader', but over time gone and time to come, the best, the favorite, the most well studied, the deck with the most to offer, the daddy of tarot, the mother of creation can only, will only ever be..............

The Osho is the only one I have used.
I have a question though:
How do you tell the difference between the different Thoth deck editions? I keep hearing that one version is far superior to another and I'd hate to get the wrong one.
#1 - The size of the cards is of no concern. I have the Osho and those are pretty big and I have big hands so they're alright. I think I'd rather have large cards because the pictures would be bigger (duh!).
I don't know what sizes they come in or anything... Is the one on amazon.ca a good one? Can you tell? Could you link me to a picture of what you recommend so I can see what it looks like and show my mother or something?

Hi Frequency,
The Thoth deck that isn't popular is the large green deck in the white box. I have this deck and like it better than the small darkly coloured version. The cards aren't really that green, they just look slightly green tinted but you can see all the detail better. Its also the version with the one Magus and the unicursal hexagram.
There are quite a few Thoth users on here, maybe you could post another message and ask about the differences between the decks :)

Frequency, you might want to do a search and read the Thoth threads that have been posted. This deck issue has been discussed in a lot of them. The large version that many of us prefer is the large AGMuller version, the U.S. games version is the one with the greenish tint to it. I own 2 Thoth decks, the large AGM version, and the small US games version which includes 3 magus cards. Both of these decks are vibrant and I highly recommend them. I am not sure if Amazon sells the large AGMuller version, but I know that links to purchase this deck were also included in previous threads on the Thoth.

LOL Talisman... actually... I found the Xultan deck because I went looking for a deck that started with "X"... or just an "X-Tarot"... hmmm... good name for one.
I end up looking up the decks that many people mention in various threads. Partly for the same reason as you... ;) But also, because I'm always thinking about which deck might I want to get next... :D
As for the quote I use... I'm not certain I would necessarily attribute it to Mr. Marquand (I'm assuming you're thinking of the "Mr. Moto" books). Maybe not even Earl der Biggers (who wrote bunches of Charlie Chan novels). The quote is actually from the 1936 (I think that is the year) movie "Charlie Chan at the Circus". It was the earlies use of the quotation I've found so far - though there have been many subsequent (minor) variations attributed to many people - from Mark Twain to Buddah (no, I'm not kidding - I actually saw someone using the quote on the internet and saying it was Buddah who had first said it).
But... I suppose this is getting to be a teeny-weeny, tiny, little bit off topic... })

I don't know how much time Solandia is still giving for the poll, but there is certainly little left!
So, to quote AmounrA: 'All this voting may lead to a tempory 'leader', but over time gone and time to come, the best, the favorite, the most well studied, the deck with the most to offer, the daddy of tarot, the mother of creation can only, will only ever be..............' and here endeth my quote, as we all know what the Marseilles offers ;)
For those who haven't voted yet, check the opening post of this thread.
