I know many just won't believe it, but I've again added to my Tarot decks an entirely different one - a Marseilles one!
Thanks to Diana, both my wife and I now have this very wonderful rendition of the Marseilles. As I was awaiting this deck before discussing the Court cards in the Historical and Iconographic section, I now cannot find excuses of delay any longer... so I guess we'll need to start on the minor arcana!
And by the way, this is truly a great Marseilles deck!

Hi jmd, can you give us some idea of why in particular you like this deck, and what distinguishes it from other Marseilles decks?

Is that the one published from Canada?

The Hadar deck is published in Canada, but could not find any place which appeared to sell them - even from Kris Hadar who said he would see if he could send them direct - hence my great appreciation for Diana's assistance.
I haven't found a place where most of the cards can be viewed (though I haven't gone through most of Hadar's own website), but this page, lower down, shows some cards.
I would certainly recommend it, especially to Lee (only owning a mere six Marseille decks :(!!!).
If it helps, the deck's isbn is 2-89074-819-7, by Editions de Mortagne, Québec tel.: (514) 641 2387.
If you do telephone to get one, mention I wouldn't mind getting Hadar's forthcoming historical book gratis ;).

So, Diana, do you like the Hadar better than the Camoin? How would you compare them?

Thanks, Diana!
Jmd, that link you posted doesn't seem to show any cards. Jema provided this link to Somerville's entry for it in a prior thread, and there's a link on that page to see more cards. However, that page is apparently outdated, and the deck doesn't appear on Somerville's current online catalogue, so I guess that means one can't order it anymore from them. But at least we can see a few cards there.

Thanks for the picture link, lee. They truly are gorgeous cards and almost persuade me that I need a Marseille deck.

Thanks for letting me know that the link I gave for the cards didn't actually get to the correct page.
On the Hadar site, scroll down the left-hand frame until you get to the TAROLOGIE sub-heading, then click the 'couleurs' link. The page in the right-hand frame should now contain a number of cards (see my attachment for which to click).
With regards to comparisons with the Camoin, each has its strengths and weaknesses - I wrote a review of this deck last Saturday, which may yet be posted at a later date.
As mentioned by Diana, this deck has a particular liveliness about it. There is no doubt that Kris Hadar has carefully selected which details to include, though, as for the Camoin, I have a number of pages of notes of 'criticisms' (ie, things I would do differently - which doesn't make either of those Marseilles any worse than an hypothetical one I may create, for which, I am certain, both Camoin and Hadar would have numerous pages of critical comments to make!).
Whereas the Camoin has ultra-high quality in its inclusion of details, Hadar had created a wholesome Marseilles. I suppose, if I had to try to succinctly differentiate between these, the Camoin appeals more to my (thinking) head, whereas the Hadar to my (feeling) heart.
Please let me know if the link still doesn't work.

Okay, I got it now! The secret is you have to wait a while for the page to finish loading. It seems like it's finished, but then it takes a while after that to complete. Thanks, jmd! I look forward to your review.

Hi jmd,
Thank you for the link, when I clicked 'couleurs' I got to the right page.
I am no judge of marseille type decks but I was fascinated by the site itself. Did you see where he writes:
"La meilleure façon de préserver son jeu de Tarot, c'est de le mettre dans une pochette, par exemple en velours avec un cordon. N'importe quelle femme peut réaliser cela en deux temps trois mouvements et nous pensons qu'un homme, à défaut de le faire lui-même connaît une personne féminine capable de lui rendre ce service."
which I translate roughly as:
"The best way to keep your Tarot deck is to put it in a bag, for example a velvet bag with a cord. Any woman can make one of these in a trice and we think that a man, if he can't do it himself, will know a female person who can do this for him."
Poor men, reliant on the kindness of women })
Sorry, that isn't at all on topic. I did enjoy looking at the pictures though.

Just thought I would add a link to my review which Solandia has just added. I wrote it on the day I received the deck, and will probably modify it at a much later date.
It can be read here.
Thanks also to fairyhedgehog for that quote from the site - I hadn't read that section, which is unfortunate.
