Thanks so much for making this trade, divinerguy! I hope you like the Cosmic Tribe even half as much as I love this deck! I haven't done a new deck spread yet. First I'm getting acquainted with the cards and book, after first ordering the deck. This is the most beautiful, awesome, profound deck! I love how there are images within images and that you don't see them at first. It's wonderful! My only complaints are that I can barely stretch my hands far enough to shuffle it. It's way too big for small hands. Now I want to get the other books this author has written on the subject. I'm going to go to Amazon now and see if I can find the other books, as the back of this one says this is her third book on this deck.
Has there been a study group on Haindl? Could we start one? I don't know how to go about that, but it would be very interesting, I think.

I just got the haindl deck on too ! I just got the deck, with no book so will also be sending of for a book from amazon.com. So far I've found it a pleasure to look at and shuffle ... in fact I would say that I almost feel compelled to shuffle it all the time ... I think the eye on the back of the cards is hypnotising me. I've been on night shift since I've got the deck so haven't been able to study it properly. But I now have three days off, giving me plenty of time to become acquanted with my 'new friend'.

I found that I was amazed at how much I didn't actually see in the paintings on the cards till I read the descriptions in the book. It seems very profound to me that he could "hide" these images in plain sight like that. I'm very observant and yet I missed many thing in looking through the cards before reading the book. I'm very impressed with this deck, but it's not one for total beginners to tarot. I think it's one that a person can study for many years without ever ceasing to find new meanings and knowledge of. I hope to soon get the other two books. I have the handbook, but there are two other books, one on the majors and one on the minors. I haven't looked at the LWB yet, since I got the handbook in the trade, too, but I strongly suggest you get the handbook----it's really very fascinating and I think it's necessary to get the most out of the deck.
Enjoy! It's wonderful!

DivinerGuy got the Cosmic Tribe? If I remember correctly, he hated that deck...?
I must say, the Haindl deck is hte one deck I cannot get along with at all, other than the Royal, but then that's a cheap and nasty deck so it's got an excuse... ;)
The Haindl just scares me! That weird Unicorn on the Moon card I think... AGH! Gave me nightmares! And I found the Minors very difficult to get the hang of.
This is just my opinion though, and I'm not a big fan of that type of artwork, or scary weird creatures that give me nightmares! I know of plenty of people who love this deck and get great readings with it. I think it is time for me to go back to it autally and try and sort out the issues I have with it... I might review it for starters!

Kiama - yes, I have had "issues" with the Cosmic Tribe. The sexuality of the deck was a bit overpowering for me.
However, I promised myself that I was going to challenge my prejudices. Cosmic Tribe is one of those prejudices I'm going to examine.
Hope I don't blush while doing readings.

Just don't smell it, divinerguy. LOL There are some things the inquiring nose might not want to know.
I don't know why it is, but Haindl just stimulates my subconscious more or something. I still haven't read with it because I'm still going through and getting acquainted with the book and each card, but I can tell it's going to be a rewarding deck relationship. I'm not trying to master the I Ching and other symbols on the card quite yet, though. It's a lot of new information to take in. I'll worry about those things later on.
I'm really glad you decided to try Cosmic Tribe again, divinerguy. It gave me the chance to have this fantastic Haindl and I thank you very much for the trade.
Did you get the deck yet? I couldn't believe the Haindl took nearly a week to get here. You could have walked it up here to me in that time. The mail is getting so slow!

The Haindl deck is very sublime. It reaches deep into the subconscious. Rachel Pollack's book which accompanies it is insightful and a great resource.
This was my first ever deck and the readings that came from it were far reaching. For example if someone asked me a simple question like "will I get back with my boyfriend" the answer from this deck would come as an analysis of the sitter's inner issues and usually followed by a question answer like "why do you want this or what is the solution". This would prompt further detail into the reading.
Sometimes I would find myself peering intently into the cards, lost in the images. They seem to take you in.
The Majors have so many "shadows" and the Minors are intriguing. At first glance they may look as though they are just images of stones or wands etc, but as you fall into them you notice other subtle clues and suggestions within.
Oh and by the way Rachel Pollack is now working with Herman Haindl on a new book about the Kabalah. The first issue will be published in German, but hopefully it will go to english print.

For some reason, I thought Haindl was no longer living. I'm glad he's still alive then. I'm going to collect all the books that go with this deck and any others that come out in the future.
I agree with you about how you're drawn into the cards. I'm so glad I got the deck. I had no idea when I decided to trade for it that it would be so profound.
You know, when I was going through the cards and reading the book, I was startled when I came to the Tower, because it looked so much like one of the twin towers when it was hit. He did this deck before the 9/11 incident, didn't he? I was chatting with Umbrae last night and told him I thought Haindl was deceased and had done the painting way before the incident. Surely he didn't pattern this painting on the 9/11 tragedy, did he?

No he did not. The paintings were actually done prior to the cards. Each card is actually a piece of those paintings. The stones, wands etc were added to the card over the image of the painting.
Th deck was created long before 9/11. Interesting you should point that out though, but maybe I'll talk about that some other time when I feel comfortable....

In the book, I noticed tonight that sometime after he painted the painting used for the Judgment card, there was a toxic spill into a river too. Maybe Haindl was precognitive or something? Or maybe he wasn't even aware of having any possible bent that way?
