GASP! I've gone and done it

Via a trade with Meewah I obtained the Robin Wood Tarot deck. Now I'll be honest and say that usually a deck this size would be shuffled away rather quickly and me oh my :( any RW clone type deck would hold little interest to me.

However this deck is not a RW clone as I see it. Sure at first you take a look at it and see similarities to RW, but the definite Pagan essence of this deck (Robin Wood is Wiccan) lends it to a newer perspective.

I"m interested to hear other people's views and experience with this deck.

Well, it gives damn good readings.

A total newbie can get a great reading out of it.

I don't mind the art (lots of people don't like the barbie doll look, but everyone has quibbles about any deck). In fact, one of the cups looks like Luke Skywalker sitting under the tree, to me at least.

The cards are nice & stiff, shuffle well & are a nice size for handling in my hands, not overlarge or too thin or anything.

It IS very pagan, I wanted one without the Christian influence & liked how the Devil is handled. There's still an angel in Temperance and a Pope in the Hierophant, but that's about it for the Christian pics. I like how Judgement is handled too.

Her book adds dimension to the meanings, though it doesn't list any reversals for some reason (have to use the LWB for that). She picked her colors for a reason and added details for a reason, once you read why it's a lot easier to remember meanings.

I have this deck and I really love the artwork. It's very vibrant. There's always that first level of feeling that jumps right out at me, and yet there's also lots of deep symbolism. I've found it very easy to shuffle. It's also great for readings for other people because of the clear illustrations. My only problem with this deck is that it tells me only what I want to hear. Needless to say, this is a real problem so I don't really use it for reading. Maybe someday I'll pick it up again, but for now, it's just in my collection for the art.

Hi MM !

It is worth checking jmd's sticky on this forum "partial table of content and starting a new thread" as Robin Wood has always been quite a hot subject here ;-)

I hated the pics of the deck then finally bought it because EVERYBODY ;-) had it. Now I use this deck mostly. It is the only one where the minors "speak" to me ...

Give it a chance, anyway, the deck will take itself its chance. It is direct and very positive, I'd say it is definitely an Air sign deck, probably a gemini as so talkative ;-) ...

Hope you will like it. We were a few reluctants here and finally got hooked too !!!

Its a great deck and in my top three of tarot decks i use!
The only thing i really don't like about the deck are the backs there so ugly and don't fit with the pictures on the front.
But that's the only tiny thing i don't like about!

Do you have the book. I higly reccomend it!

If you read her book (Robin Wood Tarot: The Book) she states in there that she didnt' draw the deck with reversals in mind because she personally doesn't use reversals.

I bought this deck mainly for a study deck because of it's closeness to RW - and I'm not a huge fan of RW-like artwork. I've only used it for a few readings and it actually reads very well - with and without reversals (I've used it both ways).

That has to be the 4 of cups, I can see the similarity LOL.

For me Robin Wood is the most underestimated deck, I will never name it as my favourite deck as the artwork does not really appeal to me, but when I can't read clearly with my more favoured deck good old faithful Robin Wood helps me out, gives me a very easy reading. It's my easiest deck to read with, and I think it also works well for spellwork because the cards are so cheerful and positive (well the cards you would use for a spell anyway), you would not want a deck with a melancholic undertone for that even if you love the artwork.
