Just wondering how people are finding this tarot down the track? Are you finding it good to work with? I've read all of the early feedback and I'm just wondering if it stands the test of time?
*Sigh* Should I buy it?

As you read (LOL) I was sooo excited when this first came out. But the longer I worked with it, the less I liked it. :( The "bad" cards (the ones I didn't like) began overwhelming the "good" cards for me. So I ended up trading it.
I loved all the animals and nature aspects of the deck, but just couldn't get past the cards I didn't like. ???? I can't remember which ones they were now (it's been awhile LOL).
But I'll be interested to see what everyone else's experiences have been with it.

I dont have this deck yet..I plan to buy it in a couple months..or get lucky and someone will trade it to me...The selling point for me was how they write about the cards in teh book..I like the idea of them being stories..it sounds so interesting!

I always loved Poppy Palins artwork so I just had to get the Wild Spirit Tarot
From reading the book, I feel that you need a bit of an open mind. If you are happy to work with the cards as a not 100% Tarot deck than you should be fine. Interestingly Poppy calls this deck a divination deck (she does not refer to it as a Tarot deck).
I love the Major Arcana and can see the revelance to the standard Majors. But going through the minors I find it sometimes difficult to relate them to the standard Tarot.
So far, I really do like this deck. I might never use it for readings but I can see me using it a lot for spiritual work etc.
I love to hear what others feel about the Waking the Wild Spirit and how you use this deck...
Blessings,
*Mareike*

I don't like the back fo the cards...u can't really "mix" them up without knowing which is reversed, which isn't...

Really? I see the cards' back is entirely reversible!
And the picture is so natural-like oniric! You can get lost in it if you fan the cards and stare...

oops....sorry! i mixed up "waking wild spirit" with "world spirit"...:P MY BAD!!!!!!!!
Anyway, I do like waking the wild spirit 'coz the illustrations are good. the only complaint is that the cards don't follow the traditional illustrations.

I still really really like this deck, then again I am a huge sucker for bright colors, and I personally like the artwork. All the plants and animals make it even more special for me.
As for the book ... after reading it once that was enough. At first I defended it, but once read my opinion totally changed. I will never read the book again.
So in summary, I love the cards but don't care much for the book. I find the cards very nice to do spiritual work with and perhaps even story telling.

I just mentioned this deck in the "love the artwork but can't read with it" thread. This sort of sums up my opinion. I don't like the book with the deck - I was looking forward to a book that was different from other books but I find the so-called stories very boring, she says the same all-over !
But there are some cards...for example the High Priestess is called the Wisewoman, it's an old woman but done in a beautiful way. The artwork shows Poppy has respect for nature, people of different ages, animals...
I still love this deck, it's so sympathetic, but I will not use it for reading.

i really really like the art of the cards. imho the cards make this one a keeper. it does feel more like an oracle than a tarot. the problem i have is with the book. each card tells its story and interpretation. the story seems preachy and self-righteous or defensive. i found this troubling. if only one story was like this, i could overlook it but they are all pretty much like this.

Ditto ... Ditto ... Ditto! My sentiments exactly. I was really excited about a book written from teh "card's perspective" but ultimately what I read was a book on Poppi's perspective ... which at times was quite patronizing and insulted my intelligence. I would love to see the "from the card" perspective tried again, sharing the knowledge the card possesses, not telling us how to live and do things. ~Makes note of this incase she ever does a tarot deck~.

O.K. I took Demonesse's advice and used the search function!
I have not been good at all in my resolve to stop at 50 and not buy any more tarot decks! Not at all! And this deck has been on my wish list for a long time.
Waking the Wild Spirit Tarot:
Just opened the box last night and I Love it! The first thing I did was look through the card pictures in the book, all in black and white but very beautiful. Then when I looked at the cards themselves it added in the color. Perhaps my only small criticism of the whole set is that some of the cards are very yellow in color. But even that I can't really criticize because it fits the deck. The greens are such vibrant yellow-green. Some of the humans and creatures have gold or greenish skin, but not all. I probably need more yellow in my life anyhow! The faces of the people are detailed and gorgeous. And from the cards and book I keep thinking it's a "hippie" deck! The clothing the people wear, the tone of the book, and the passion about it. I know there's been a lot of criticism about the book on just about every review I've read. So I guess I feel like defending it!
I have not read the book cover to cover. But I opened it and skimmed through it picking passages here and there. I read a lot of the first 2 cards, fool and magician. I Love that she did something Different with the book , instead of the usual or standard book (giving perhaps tarot history, card descriptions, and finally card meanings , and spreads). It's called "Waking the Wild Spirit" and that is where the cards are coming from. O.K. , perhaps the book isn't a leading contender for high , dry ,intellect of the year! It seems to put a lot of people on the defensive But maybe that's because it rouses some emotion or touches on a conflict they'd rather not face?
I suppose Poppy is an artist first, then a writer. It is as though she created the cards from some place inside that touched on her wild spirit, or wild spirit archtype( yearning to be free ) Then she "spoke" for the card , getting very carried away in it's emotion and conflicting feelings about "being oneself" or being what society demands. I think an artist would have a lot of conflict between wanting to be an artist , and having to make a living. THAT is basically what I pick up from the book- A great human inner conflict between yearning to "be oneself" and free, and on the other hand being forced by having to make money to survive and thrive, but feeling like you are killing yourself and your "wild spirit" doing it. Also using or going along with your instinct on what is right, and feeling forced to do otherwise to survive. Perhaps the book doesn't help much in a regular tarot reading, I haven't even tried. But I do understand where Poppy is coming from, especially her being an artist. One reviewer felt "beaten down " by the book. Perhaps it is rather rambling. And if one card's writing conflicts with another , who doesn't have conflicting feelings? It's just that Poppy gets carried away with the passion of both! The fool , the magician, the emporer, the chariot (she gives them all new names) none of them need a "real job" , that would totally stifle their wild spirit. They all live off the land , wild and free. But who doesn't have that fantasy?

p.s. the artwork is fantastic. The cards are sturdy and smooth. I even like the borders(!)And here's another different thing I noticed- the 5's are not the "negative" aspect as is typical. Instead she chooses the 8's to bring out the negative, restrictive aspect of the suit.

I was thinking of trading this deck away, then had another look at it and thought: o no, I can't do it, it's just too gorgeous. But I haven't really done much with this deck except admire it.
I saw at amazon there is a review by Elen Hawke (wiccan writer), she really loves this deck !

I love this deck. I use it all the time for readings when the person I'm reading for is female with more personal questions. One friend thought she might be pregnant and wanted to know what the next year held for her. Another was just very unhappy with the way her life was going at the moment.
