OK, here is the challange. Suppose someone wants a nice collection, in this case 13, or a Baker's Dozen. What cards would be the essential cards for a collection? The rules are that the cards should reflect the main aspects of the Tarot card scene, not all be similiar. Oh yes, and the 13th card has to be a Waite deck, but which one?
So, here are some ideas (and you can change the catagories):
The Waite will be the standard, original Rider-Waite
For an erotic card, I think the Casanova
For modern, the Rohrig
For ancient, the Visconti
For symbolic, the Old Path
For menacing, Thoth
For darkness, The Black tarot
For a picture deck, the Vision tarot
For the drawing, Cosmic tarot
For the esoteric, Kasanler
For the far East, Ukiyoe
For the pure art, the Russian of St.Petersberg
For a woodcut, Marsielle

I believe my bakers dozen would look a bit different, but I will try to adhere to your proprosed format as best as I can.
For Raider Based .... Healing Tarot
For an erotic ... I think the Black (not sure don't own one)
For modern ... Rhorig
For historical ... the Visconti Gold
For Celtic ... Legend
For symbolism ... the Cosmic Tribe
For darkness ... Mage the Ascencion
For a picture deck ... Ananda
For the drawing ... Shapeshifter
For the esoteric ... Thoth
For the far East ... Osho-Zen
For the pure art ... Le Tarot Ambre
For funny but right on ... Tarot for Cats
For themed deck ... Halloween Tarot
It was tuff to not repeat certain decks in certain categories. As a collector (taroholic actaully) I doubt I could live on a bakers dozen anyway *LOL*

Oh I couldn't live on 13 decks only either, but I was thinking of people new to the game, who want a nice rounded starter collection.

Rounded? ~giggles~ ... I say get what you like, and as many as you can! I have no clue what "shape" my collection is, but I love it! (somewhere around 100 decks)
