Since I have to work a 12 hour shift tomorrow (the 25th) my wife and I decided to open our gifts tonight before I came to work. I got the deck which was basically at the top of my wish list... the Victoria Regina Tarot! Woo Hoo!!! Now I get to partake of the pleasure of perusing each card. What a great wife I have... :D

She's a gem, give her a huge kiss! I got the deck in June and haven't worked much with it. I spent 20 hours sewing an insert for the bag though, and I have plans to decorate the box.
There's something about personalizing this deck which appeals to me. The illustrations are gorgeous and the book is fascinating and has lots of history for those of us who are history buffs.
I'm always interested in checking the bibliographies of the books that come with decks. I recently bought two books that were in the bibliography of the William Blake Tarot book. For the VR I have a couple of books here, including one called "The Last Courts of Europe" which contains great photos of the Royal familiy and their relatives.
I'm so glad you got this special deck.

Congratulations Trogon - what a wonderful wife you have! I really do envy you - unfortunately there's no chance my dearly beloved would buy me a deck ever: he used to react really badly if he even saw a deck, but now he's calmed down a lot.
Anyway - three cheers for Mrs T! It's a lovely deck to have in your collection, although I find it a trifle large to work with. The book is a mine of information and very interesting reading.

I suppose that not having satan and hordes of his minions manifesting themselves, or having you levitating and your head spinning like a top has probably helped him realize that Tarot isn't going to disrupt the normal functioning of the universe? ;)
Thanks you guys.... yes, my wife is a wonderful woman. She must be to have put up with me for so many years... :D

In the meantime, I shall keep trying: after all, they're pretty neat tricks if you can master them, don't you think? ;-)
So, Trogon, have you had a good look through the VR and do any particular cards appeal to you yet? I particularly like Justice and Judgment in this deck.

LOL... I've been trying the levitating, but so far have only managed a few OBE's. ;)
My favorites so far? Hmmm.... The Moon just really, really caught my eye almost immediately! And the Chariot has to rank right up there too. Then of course there are the Queens, all showing Queen Victoria herself in different stages of her life.
All in all, it's a wonderful deck. Now if I can just get a few other things out of the way so I can do my New Deck reading! :P

I can sypathize about the 12 hour holiday shift- this was the first year me and my husband both had off for the same holiday in about 5 years. Both of us use to work these jobs requiring 24/7 staffing at all times. Now that I have moved on to a regular day job, I am so glad I dont have to put in every holiday.
Husband has to work New Years Eve, so it will just be me and our child this year at the house, and a bottle of sparkling grape juice at midnight.
The VR is one of my favorite decks, and in my opinion has one of the best companions books if you are into Victorian history and symbolism. Hope you like it.

One of my many too many additions this month was the VR book. I've barely touched any of the new stuff yet. I did read the text in the meanings section for one card at random. There doesn't seem to be much on each of the individual cards at least for the minors. I did get a chance to see more of the cards and this has got to be one of the prettiest black and white decks out there.
More to come once I get to spend more time with my new toys. This could take a WHILE.

Hi Trogon: I gave the VR deck for Christmas to a friend. I've had it since October. I think I responded to your New Deck spread as well. It is a wonderful deck. I tend to pull it out for special occasions. It is the deck I usually choose for readings in the Reading Exchange. It is a deck that seems for me, to get straight to the point. I can't say that I'm in love with the court cards though. I find I have to rely on what I know about the cards rather than being able to glean meaning from them. One exception would be the King of Cups. I love the Moon too, and the 6 of Swords. The Devil clown is pretty spooky too. Enjoy. Hope you have big hands!
