I think the reason they're so expensive is because it was a limited edition--from what I heard they were only given out originally to the people who came to the first day of the movie's opening. Those were the only people who were able to get a set of these & they haven't gone into general distribution. So what you have here is a specialty collectible that automatically entered into movie 'memorabelia' with no additional decks available after that first give-away.
At least that's what I heard. I could be all wrong on it.

I found a page with some info on them.
http://www.houseofdisney.com/events/nightmare/merchandise1.shtml
It lists the tarot deck as a limited edition of 1,200. Some of the cards are shown at the bottom of the page. It says you had to be an event guest at Disneyland/world to get them. And yes, they were sold in two sets of 13, together.

Was just looking at the cards on the site, and they seem to use tarot only in name. Really, they look like a spoof on the twelve days of Christmas, with thirteen days instead of twelve, as is the theme of the film with the spirit of Halloween taking over the spirit of Christmas. I guess, to the Disney animation group, using tarot links them with all things spooky and Hallowe'en, as if tarot, of course, belongs with all that mumbo jumbo... Plastic Draculas and Frankensteins and Sheet Ghosts and silly string spider webs and the generally generic spookiness of Halloween.
Leave it to Disney to sanitize tarot as it has nearly every other evocative piece of folklore it has gotten its massive animated hand in. Hmmm, maybe this means Disney will do an animated feature with Alaistar Crowley as the lead character.... ohh, God, that would be the day!!! :D
Peace!

*ROFLMAO* Perhaps we should send them the idea ~giggles~ ... they could do a whole thing on the Golden Dawn and good ole' Alister.

Ugh. If it had Aleister Crowley's mug on it that would be an excellent reason NOT to buy it. I can't imagine going "ooh...aah..." over THAT one. Give me the Mayor of Nightmare Town any day.

Gawd! I never saw him in the hat. He looks a complete idiot!
I wonder what he would have done if he'd been born in the 1950's---probably would have gotten into dianetics or something.

Now THERE ya go, dangerdork!
Great find! Crowley in that hat will be perfect. Maybe Disney can just do a new Fantasia with the Golden Dawn: The Sorcerer's DEPENDants!
Have a bunch of marching tarot cards that Crowley can't control.
Peace!
