As many of you probably know (since I keep shooting my mouth off about it }) ) I got the Röhrig Tarot a little while back. I've been studying the cards in depth since then and have discovered something quite interesting.
As my eyes don't work quite as well as they did when I was 20... I started using a magnifying glass to read the artist's notes on the cards. Imagine my surprise when I found that many of the cards appear three-dimensional when viewd through a magnifying glass! I am using a 4-inch long, rectangular magnifying glass and am looking through it with both eyes when I see this.
There are quite a few cards with this effect. I don't want to spoil the surprises, so I'll just mention one. The Knight of Cups... his hair has a 3-D texture as does the collars of his robes and the rose by his face.
Have any of you other Röhrig users noticed this? It is a very cool effect... :smoker:

I may get this deck for my fiancee. He wants to start learning tarot. I don't know if I would like it or not but now I have to take a close look at it. Am I trying to rationalize buying another deck? It's for him, not me! I think...

Pollux, tarotholic is caugh without his Röhrig??? Now that is a surprise!
jlbvt... rationalize away, but get it anyway... I absolutely love this deck. The art is fantastic and it is very easy to read with... well, for me anyway. Then there is the 3-D effect... ;)

I'm not trying to be a Virgo here as I have had this deck for a long time...do you mean the Prince of Cups? Was this deck reissued with changes?
Facial hair? I didn't notice...the card is filled with nude female body parts. Thanks for refocusing my attention!
After reading your post, I whipped out my glass and sure enough...but it was every card. Then I turned it on a magazine cover with pictures of Lord of the Ring actors...and it did it there, too. Perhaps this is a phenomena natural to 'realistic' photos?

Ophiel,
The court cards in the Rohrig Tarot are: Princess, Prince, Queen, and Knight. It is the Knight of Cups that is being talked about, not the Prince.

Right you are! I don't use this deck often and probably wanted to stop when I saw the images on the Prince.
I am shamed, and humbled. :(

I want to get this deck now, and I am curious, does anyone know whether I should get the 1995 or the 1999 version? Are there any differences?

I think Liliana once mentioned a better colouring in the 1995 one. Bummer I am getting the reprint... :P *LOL* Now don't get me wrong, I know I am annoying *LOL* but there are a few threads in the table of contents, here: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8386 If someone doesn't come over with an answer *seeks out for Liliana or Jeanette of Tarot Garden...* you could always try to find the answer there. :)
