I have been drooling over the Shining Tribe Tarot for several months - to a year now, but at $55.00 CDN, never felt I *should* buy it, not with hubs going back to college and bills and a mortgage to pay...(not mention all the other expensive mechanical problems everyone I know seems to be suffering from so far this month!).
But, we celebrated XMas with my step kids early this year (Dec 22) and I got the Shining Tribe! And I wish I had listened to my intuition and shelled out $$$ earlier, because I really like this deck so far.
Anyone else have comments they would like to share?

Congratulations on your new deck, this is one which I eye periodically but always manage to replace it at the top of the wishlist with something else. Let us know how it reads.

I have read about it. Sounds interesting, though I suspect you would have to read the book to really delve into the sybols. It is Thoth based, isn't it?
Congratulations!

the shining tarot book is excellent as you would expect a book by rachel pollack to be. i don't really care for the art on the cards b/c the drawing is rather primative. you really need the book to understand her symbolism. i've tried reading them but i can't correlate them with either the rws or thoth. imho, they are purely rachel p.'s baby. not particularly in favor of any deck but expressing her view of tarot symbolism exceptionally well.

I did not like the style of this deck for a long time. When I first started in tarot I was drawn foremost to the decks with beautiful artwork. Then my style changed, and I picked up the more "homey" decks like the Motherpeace and the Shining Tribe. I still like the decks which show skill and talent in the art, but I have an appreciation now for the power behind the well-thought-out, personal image, even though it may be executed in less-than-perfect artistic style. And who decides what's perfect or beautiful anyway?

Well Congratulations Amyel !!
I share your holiday joy , but in a different way . I returned some gift books I got over the weekend that I was not too thrilled with in exchange for store credit & came out with the Mantegna & Tarot of the Spirit!!
It doesn't hurt to take your holiday happiness into your own hands on occasion-

Congratulations amyel! What a wonderful gift! I've looked at the Shining Tribe Tarot several times and have been intrigued by the art and the symbolism displayed... I'm very much looking forward to your further comments on it.

I got the Shining Tribe last month and have been using it for my daily three card draw in December. It seems to be a very honest, tell-it-like-it-is deck, and you get used to the artwork after awhile.
You might want to get the book "A Forest of Souls" by Rachel Pollack. It uses the Shining Tribe deck and it's a really fantastic book.

Hello Everybody and a Merry Christmas to All :D:D:D
Well I posted a thread a couple weeks ago about getting the Osho-Zen tarot for my Sister as a Christmas present, and well, the day finally arrived when I got to give it to her... and let me tell you, she absolutely Loved it!!!...
I must say that this has been one of my most memorable Christmas' in as many years as I can remember... But what has made it so special is that I cared so much more about the giving of presents than I did of the receiving of them... Besides opening a bounty of wonderful gifts I for once truly experienced the pleasure of giving, and let me tell you that is far greater than the pleasure you get when receiving an extremely thoughtful gift :D:D:D
I suppose another point of mention is that I myself received the Ancient Egyptian Tarot... Now I must say when researching the Tarot's to give to my Sister the Ancient Egyptian was not one of the ones I had given much thought to and I am not sure if I should exchange it for a different Tarot that more suits what I was after or if I should keep this and cherish it for the memory of the gift that it was intended to be... I have never been a person to go and exchange gifts because the gift didn't seem right for me, so I am inclined to keep it and know it as my first Tarot deck... I mean I can always get the Thoth deck at another time :D:D:D
well Merry Christmas once again Every Body and have a happy New Year... And I hope that Everybody here had as wonderful a Christmas as I have had...
