I was just sitting here thinking that I would like to buy a new tarot deck. I was thinking about the Morgan Greer, as it 'appeals' to me, and I am attracted to it (not sexually ofcourse! hehe). Would there be any other recommendations? I would be grateful for any input.
Cheers

If the Morgan Greer calls to you, then by all means get it. I have it and love it. It was my second deck and probably the one I've used most often. I love the bold colors and the borderless images. Just be careful... if you're in an actual store getting the deck, you might be tempted by other decks. If you are, then there's a simple solution. Buy them all. :P

Me... the way I looked for my new deck (I only have 2 :( ) was I went to various stores looking for any decks that seemed to jump out at me, that felt 'right'. Well... I ended up going with the deck that jumped off the shelf at me! You could do something similar with picking a deck online - buy what feels 'right'.

Wow. There are just so many to choose from now, and I think there is probably a deck to suit anyonme's interests. As Keslyn says, if the Morgan attracts you, then go for it. Are you near a store that has many to select from? If you aren't certain, you could go and see all the variety. I used to go a store in the city I used to live in and just look through as many as I could. I had some specific cards that were my barameters - if I didn't like those, I didn't buy the deck.
Who knows? You may end up a collector! There's plenty of us on this site!!

I just received the Morgan Greer for Christmas, although I feel like I've had it for a while because it is one of the decks I have in my Orphalese Tarot software. You appear to be in the market for a RWS deck and the Morgan Greer is a very beautiful one. You may also want to check out the Universal Waite deck. You can check them out in the Decks section. Then there's the Aquarian, Nigel Jackson,........:D

There is a lovely shop in Covent Garden that sells a multitude of tarot cards. Problem is, last time I went there, I ended up being there for around three hours, being drawn to both the Alester Crowley Thoth deck, and the Mythic deck (which I bought - see post 'My new deck is evil' HEHE).
The Universal Waite deck is particularly pleasing to my eye. But then, last night I saw the Hanson-Roberts deck. This strikes me as amazing! I think this might be the one for me. Do any of you have this deck? Any input?

Hanson Roberts was my first deck and I find it is very easy to read with. The pictures have an immediate emotional appeal.
The Universal Waite I find much calmer and it appeals more when I don't want anything too much "in my face".
Hanson Roberts is based on the Universal Waite (effectively) so it is really a matter of taste which one you choose.
Happy deck hunting :)

Since no one has mentioned it let me put my plug in for the Robin Wood. The Morgan Greer is great though ... just thought you might want to see another deck that can always be added to a never-ending-growing wish list ... or as someone else mentioned a collection :P

Are there other decks to which you do feel sexually attracted?

Well, I have indeed slept with the Giovanni-Casselli deck, but this was not a sexual relationship. They merely rested under my pillow.

ROFL Too funny.
I guess I'll toss in a recommendation too... I love the Röhrig Tarot. It is quite different so may be something you want to consider? The card meanings are not wildly different from the RWS meanings so it might not be difficult for you to learn.
So... we've got Hanson-Roberts, Morgan-Greer, Universal Waite, Röhrig, Robin-Wood.... Aww heck... get them [/u] })

I would of course have to agree with Trogon about the Rohrig, although there are others, and I will always recommend my beautiful and easy to read Tarot of the Old Path (thats the problem with 29 decks, which one do you recommend?!).
I know you just bought a deck, but what decks do you now have? Just curious to see what you are drawn to in light of your choice.
Oh, and the shop in Covent Garden is Mysteries. Really friendly staff in there too (but best to go at quiet times, does get a bit crowded). Did you find the perfume of the shop a bit intense?

Yes, Mysteries! That's the one! I was there today around three o'clock. Very very very busy! I could hardly breathe, and was slightly worried that I might knock something over! The incense is ok. I find it very calming. I would love to work there. It would be such a cool way to fund my studies :o)
I only have the three tarot decks. You have twenty nine? Moi is very impressed! How do you choose which one to use!!! I have the Giovanni Caselli deck (an introductory one, issued with a book by J. Sharmen Burke), the Rider-Waite, and now the Hanson-Roberts. What's your twenty nine? Hehehe.

Oh there was a thread a few weeks about your decks, if you look there you will see the list. Twenty-nine might be a respectable collection, but nothing compared to those who have 3 figure collections.
I don't know the Giovanni Caselli deck, but I say that if you decide to go for a 'pip' style deck, then you will not go far wrong with the Thoth deck. Almost a rule that you must have both that and the RW deck.
If you want a more modern deck (and have big hands) then the Rohrig deck is great. I love my Tarot of the Old Path deck, my first deck, and still the one I use the most. If you want an erotic deck, I would say the Casanova is good to read with. There was a thread a few weeks ago about essential decks for a collection, makes interesting reading.
Which part of town are you in (N, NW, S, etc?)

I'm in the South-East, just down from London Bridge. I'm not originally from London though. I hail from Scotland, mid-way between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Where abouts are you?
The Rohrig deck looks very modern indeed. It's really nice, but I think I am in awe of the more traditional, old-style tarot decks. The Thoth deck is fantastic. I was going to buy this, but I thought to myself, erm I dunno. Perhaps I am being really stupid, but I thought to myself, Alister Crowley and all... I dunno... call me superstitious!
The Giovanni Casseli deck is a new deck based on the Rider-Waite deck. It's nothing new as far as tarot decks are concerned but it's nice and handy, and easy to learn with!!!
I must say, I love the Hanson-Roberts. The imagery is fantastic - I would have to say that I am most impressed!
Do you frequent Mysteries a lot? I sometimes pop in when I am having a quick break from my university library. I find it quite calming!

the hanson roberts is my fav reading deck. i like the morgan greer but haven't done a reading with it yet. if you get the MG, you should check out "tarot celebrations" by geraldine amaral. she uses MG in this book. it's a great book regardless. :) i like the rohrig and the robin wood, too.

Fairyhedgehog - I would be very interested in meeting up with others in the South East area. But it's not letting me post on the thread that you gave me. Argh! HEHE. Would be pretty cool though for a group of us to get together.
Truthsayer - I just love the imagery on those Hanson Roberts cards. So vivid and you can almost feel the emotions. What about the Thoth tarot? What's your opinions on that?

i used the thoth for several years. i like it but it's not as easy to read as some other decks i've used. the images are powerful. i hope to study the deck more depth one day now that i have a book that goes in some depth with the symbolism behind the thoth.

I concur with Lawguy on the Universal Waite. Another to try is the Albano Waite - bold colors, but not strange as to be distracting. A nice change of pace.

Maybe it's subscribers only? I didn't think it was, though ...
You could post in tech support and see what they say?
