Decameron... Bought the Bawd!!!

With some time to spare before going to teach night school, I stopped by my local Border's Bookstore (a store that I am beginning to admire in ohhhhh, so many ways). Having been perusing the posts on this forum so much lately and getting ideas on what decks people find evocative, I looked again in the large case in which Border's displays decks for sale. Now, this is, mind you, the store which led me back to tarot, via the purchase of the William Blake Tarot for a steal at $5, and where I have also gotten several others of my teasured decks. Here I see the Victoria Regina deck, one that is on my serious consideration list, The Tarot de Paris, which I am also considering deeply, and the Tarot of the III Millenium, which the jury is still out on for me but has some attractive considerations.

Finally, and BEHOLD!, there before my eyes is the Decameron Tarot!!! One that is on the top of my list. Well, it isn't long before the nearest employee is called over with key to unlock the case and The Decameron is in my hands. Of course, I have four hours of teaching to go before I can race home and open this treasure. However, as soon as I got home tonight, I looked through, card by card, getting a feel of each one as I am signing in here tonight.

I really like this deck as an erotic deck. I know it has been discussed in a previous thread (and I was planning to ask cj what reactions she has had to it), but I have to voice my initial pleasure. It is a bawdy and lustful deck, and I love that it is not all just the pretty people making love... this is a Chaucerian splendour!!! Lust in its everyday person mode, yet with a bawdy Medieval lust. My next task is to put together the "stories" in the cards. I do want to familiarize myself with Decameron itself, but I like the challenge now of sorting and arranging the stories which unfold within the cards, and seeing what card relationships I get. Obviously the creator didn't go totally by suit, or even keep stories in just major or minor arcana. It looks as if scenes of stories transcend categories. Reading with this may be interesting too, seeing if sequences of stories unfold within a spread.

I do also want to give kudos to my local Border's. For a large chain store, they do carry quite a variety of decks. They have set a case at store center, almost an entire aisle, and have a selection from not only U.S. Games and Llewellyn, but obviously carry Lo Scarabeo and perhaps a few other publishers... as well as many types of Oracle decks. Well, it is off to slaver over the Decameron... :P

Peace!

Khatruman,

Hehe..so you bout the "OH MY" deck as I lovingly call mine now...

I am sure it will be a wonderul addition to your collection, I know it is to mine (though I still havent made it it's black lace bag yet).

If you get a chance, get the book too. I may help you discover the origin of the cards..fun to try to match story to card.

I hope you enjoy the deck as much as I do.

Oh - I'm new here - but I have been lucking for awhile. I currently own 4 decks - with two other coming - including.......TA DA - the Decamerone - which I ordered last night. got the Italian version just to be a little different. And after reading these posts - I can't wait to see it. I've also ordered the Tarot Erotica - and now I'm wondering which I will like better - and I have got to stop staying up so late - and someone please tell me NO MORE DECKS!!!!!

You will have to tell me about the Tarot Erotica. I do like the Decameron, though I am not sure how useful it will be to read with, unless it is a query on relationships :D. This forum can get addicting, and as far as finding someone to tell you not to buy more decks.. Umm, I would suggests looking at other posts where people are unsure of buying. Seems that the standard advice is..well, if you like it BUY IT!!!!

****Says in a reeeeeaalllly quiet voice that you can hardly hear... don't buy any more decks})

Peace!

I will gladly give my impressions of both decks- once they arrive. I'm thinking they should be here some time next week. Whether I'll actually be able to use them in a reading will be an interesting test - however i am usually drawn to things of an erotic nature so it is quite possible that one of these will turn out to be easier for me to use than my R/W deck.

At any rate - I expect that they will be interesting conversation pieces for some of the more adult get-togethers - and it has been suggested to me that I bring one or two of my decks next time and do some readings for the people there.
