Hi ALL! I have found so much information, advice, and encouragement here- I just love this site! I started reading cards about a month ago (recieved a "starter deck" for x-mas. have enjoyed it but want a "real" deck that does not have the words on it you know? for the sake of "showing off" and "wow" i guess.) ANYWAYS- I just ordered the Robin Wood deck after reading lots of reviews and finding the cards very intriguing. - My question is- does anyone own this deck or have experience with it? How did you like it? do you have any tips for me as to how to have the best reading or interpret the cards? Any info or advice that helped you get started with them? Any little facts you wanna throw my way?
I was also found the Vampire deck VERY appealing. I am hesitant to buy because i wanna see if i'll really use the Robin Wood one first. but if anyone has any experience/comments about the vampire one i would love to hear them!!!!
thank you in advance!

Hi Britney, welcome to Aeclectic! :)
If you click on this link:
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8386
you'll find a table of contents with threads for several popular decks listed, and there are a bunch for Robin Wood, so you can get an idea of what people here have had to say about it in the past.
Have fun!

In my opinion, the Robin Wood is one of the best decks to use as a beginner. I wish I had it when I begun.
It is essentially a deck that is based on the Rider-Waite-Smith deck(another good one for you to look at), and really helps to develop your intuition.

I can really recommend the Robin Wood deck too--not only did I meet the artist (she signed my deck) but she's got a book out on pagan ethics that's really worth reading.
The deck is great. I've seen total beginners do good readings with it with only a few minutes of coaching - how to shuffle, lay, read the positions - when I took it in to work one day to show someone there who was curious because her daughter wanted to get a deck. Three people did readings on their own with it & were impressed with the answers.
I use it myself, have it on my 'read' pile of decks all the time. The book that is companion to it is very good--once you read that you'll know why she used what images & colors she did & can pretty much throw away the little white book because you'll be remembering the meanings just from her descriptions. See if you can locate the book, she sells it on her site or you can check www.half.com for a used one.
Avoid the celtic cross spread, that's not really a beginner spread. Stick wtih 1,3, 5 or 6 card spreads to start, it'll be less confusing.

Oh my deck just came in yesterday and is GEORGEOUS! I LOVE the cards and feel VERY confident that I will be successful with reading them. The minor cards are VERY elaborate- I especially love all the pentacle cards.
I am so excited! Thank you everyone for your imput. I believe this Robin Woods deck will be very good for me! :-)

britney--
once you've gone around the block a few times with the deck, you might consider Robin's book about the deck. It gives a rundown on all the symbolism in th deck-- lots of detail that you may miss.
but, again, i would suggest you get a good feel for the deck. go with your intuition and observations first. after all, that's what it's all about.
