Deck peer pressure

What decks do you love that everyone else seems to hate? What decks do you hate that everyone else seems to love?

I just got the Rock Art Tarot, on the discount table at Borders, very cheap and looking pretty unloved. I looked it up on Aeclectic and found its rating barely hit two stars. But I really connected with the primitive shapes and bright colors of the deck from the second I opened it.

But I got the Haindl because I'd heard so many people here talking about it, and it's the nastiest-looking thing I've ever seen! What, was the artist so poor that the only colors she could afford were shades of brown? Is it such an inconvenience to draw whole, clear figures instead of half-faded out blurs? Icky.

One of the things I love about Tarot is the variety; there's something out there for everyone!

I've read some derogatory things about the Hanson-Roberts Tarot being too "cute", but it's the first deck that really caught my eye and I still love it.

Hi,

I have the Gendron Deck. It was the first one I could read without a book, but a lot of people seems to have issues with the way it was made (computer generated and hand drawn). My only issue was there is no book set, oh well there is no such thing as perfect.

I think the one deck that most people liked that I even thought was wonderful until I got my hands on it was the Victoria Regina. I actually got it in a trade and then traded it out.

Blessings,

Cj

i like gendron deck too. :)

another deck i like is the chinese tarot. seemed everyone loved this tarot's art work but at the same time can't read with it. however, my experience with it is great. it is the deck i use most often now. (:P my other decks are getting jealous)

For me it is the Rider-Waite. I love this deck, but everyone hates the colours. I actually have three versions of it: the Rider-Waite, the Universal Waite, and the Original Rider-Waite Tarot Pack.

Well, she is a he. And his 'vision' for his deck was the return of the goddess culture and an end to technological and environmental destruction of the earth, so yes, a bit somber in colour. But take a closer look. A real close look. The colours of the rainbow are there.

Well, yes... I've found that people here often prefer painted decks. Here I am, an absolute lover of photomontage decks. Others tend to find that these are hard to read, but I connect with these the most - I like modern art. I own the Sacred Circle Tarot and the Fairy Ring Oracle; I've recently ordered the Quest Tarot and am eagerly looking forward to it. (does anyone have any idea how long it will take, if I ordered through a check in the mail?)

As was said, that's why there are so many decks - to suit the multitude of opinions of tarot readers.

I love the Gendron deck, too.

I wouldn't exactly call if peer pressure, but I have bought a couple of decks that I didn't quite get, because so many people loved them. I was curious, so I got them.

I got the Robin Wood quite a while ago. While I don't dislike it, it doesn't really speak to me.

The other one was the Goddess, because it kept turning up on the Top Ten lists so many years in a row. I do like that one a lot, and I've gotten some incredible readings from it.

It's great that there are so many decks, so there is somthing for everyone. Or, given the rampant tarot addiction, perhaps I shouild say there are lots of decks for lots of people. :-)

The Sacred Circle deck has an awesome rating, but I just couldn't stand the thing. It was the first time I had looked at a spread and was completely blank. I had nothing from it at all. It is sitting in a box now. I do like to read the book to it, though.

I love the Hanson Roberts deck as well. It was my first deck, I used it for 10 years. I don't like the lord of the rings deck, I got it YEARS ago and it never gave me good readings! I also can't stand cosmic tribe, and thoth, although others RAVE about them. To each their own and thank goodness there's enough different types of tarot for all of us to find something that clicks with our innerpersonal being.

I got the Robin Wood deck because I thought that it was THE deck to get if you`re pagan but I just hated it and had to get rid of it straight away.

the deck i love that some seem to hate is the hanson roberts. it seems to be one of those decks that you either love it or you hate it. as to which decks i hate, i do not admit to disliking any decks b/c that usually means i will fall in love it and have to have a copy. :D LOL

bighairymonster  05 Feb 2003
well, I have no idea why people seem to love the thoth so much. but i'm in the process of getting it through a trade, so i'm giving it a chance.

another thing is that i don't like the victoria regina deck. maybe it's 'coz i prefer colours rather than black and white.

~giggles~ well of course there is! the Cosmic Tribe! *LOL* ... Little, the Cosmic Tribe is my most beloved tarot deck, it is one that people either like or absolutly hate. But for me it is absolutly perfect!

Don't let anyone talk you out of your Rock Art Tarot! if you love it that is all that matters.

I'm with you on this one! I got it, looked through it once, packed it up and mailed it to Truthsayer who loves it.
