Here's a new deck being published by Hay House in April 2003. It's called "The Oracle Tarot" by Lucy Cavendish, art by M. Pearson. It's a 64-card deck; she's omitted the court cards. You can see some of the cards and read about the deck here:
http://www.girluwant.com/movie.html
Click on "Lucy," then on the right side click "The Oracle Tarot" (last one on the list).
You have to have Flash 6 installed in order to bring up the site. There's a link there to install it if you don't have it, it only takes a few minutes on a dial-up connection.

I haven't even looked at the cards yet, but an "oracle tarot"???? Isn't that kind of a contradiction in terms? :D
Off to look at the cards now. :)
(oops don't have flash 6 - will do look later maybe)

Yes, I thought that was quite contradictory. I looked at the cards - I'm not really fond of them. But then again, I'm a photomontage freak. It seems that the deck doesn't take advantage of the fact that it's a painted deck - the facial expressions don't satisfy, and the colors are like children's fairytale illustrations. I looked at the magical spell cards. Though in a similar style, I liked these better.
That's a strange site. I couldn't find an exact purpose to it... I guess it's just a personal site...

i like the style of the art. i see originality that's not in other decks. it might be good for a beginner who's intimidated by court cards. i'd probably buy a copy. the magic cards looked interesting, too. oracle and tarot seem somewhat contradictory but i'd take a gamble on it. unlike the nasty rumors to the contrary ;) , i'm really NOT an out of control tarot-holic. LOL i've reached a point in my collecting that i only pick decks that are genuinely interesting to me and this one interests me.

I don't have flash 6 installed yet so i only saw the cards so far that were on the home page. What I have seen I like, it's original, I like the lovers card and strength.
It should be a very popular decks without court cards }) many people seem to have problems interpreting them !

Hate stupid Flash. Only intense curiosity kept me waiting...and waiting...and waiting...and waiting...
Looks pretty, but I'm not sure I want a deck minus courts. At least if I have the courts I can always send them away, while the other way around I can't get them back. If you take my meaning.
Aerin
ps to say: I like the look of the Spell Cards better. They look more 'finished' for some reason.

I look forward to getting these cards when they come out! :) The site says they are out now.. (??) But I dont even see them listed on Amazon.com.. I usually will even see decks there that are not quite yet released, but no sign of these cards anywhere.

sunflowr - the deck is published by hayhouse.
If you go to www.hayhouse.com and do a search by author (Lucy Cavendish) you will see that the deck will be available in april. Maybe amazon will have them as well by then. Hayhouse probably ships worldwide (most online bookshops do) but shipping costs from australia is more expensive for me. But you will be able to get the deck :)

I just bought what, to me, feels like THE tarot deck that I can connect with! :) It's called "The Oracle Tarot" and it's by Lucy Cavandish. I just LOVE these cards! There are no negative cards as even they are treated with a positive message.. like 10 of wands means to unburden yourself.. Death is renamed "Change" since that is what it really means.. the swords arent so dark anymore, not even the 10. And there's no reversed cards.. and NO courts! I know this isnt exactly traditional but then again I am wanting to get away from traditional and use something that is "sort of" tarot but somewhat different at the same time. I found it with this deck! :) If anyone else owns this or will, please lets post our readings! :)

ps: The reason I am happy there are no courts here is because those ALWAYS confuse me. I just never learned to relate to them very well in readings. So, they are no longer there to mess me up. ;p And also, the meanings for the rest of the cards are traditional enough (but in a more positive light) that I can still post my readings on here for others to help interpret, even if they dont own the deck and own a regular tarot deck. :)

sunflower, do you have a link where this deck can be seen? if the deck makes you happy and works for you, please don't worry about what the rest of us think. i can see why it would be easier for a beginner. go for it! :) no one will criticize you. we're all tarot co-dependents. as tarot-holics all that's likely to happen is you'll start a stampede to see this deck or buy it. we all have very poor impulse control when it comes to tarot and we believe in egging each other on.

This is the only place I have seen it.. the pics shown are nice but dont show anywhere near the other beautiful cards that are part of this deck. When I have time, I'll scan a few cards and post them on my webspace for you all to see. :) Meanwhile, here is the authors website:

It's a good price too.. 15.99 .. and you might be able to get it cheaper if you purchase thru Amazon. :)

Glad you like the deck, sunflowr ! Does it come with a booklet or anything ?
I do like this deck, I checked at amazon a few weeks ago and they had it listed for sixty pounds...someone at amazon must have hit the wrong key on the keyboard :P
They have it now for 9.99 pounds *sigh of relief*
but in the meantime I have bought another deck (the swedish deck jema talked about) and I have to slow down a bit on the buying right now but I will buy it for this price.
Please let us know how you're doing with this deck ?

I looked at the cards and I quite like them.
But actually I wouldn't mind seeing some others too...
Also the price doesn't seem bad.
Unluckily I already have fancy decks for readings... I decided I will focus on tarot study for a while, and on SAVING. :D *LOL* All in all I would mind seeing more anyway... :P

It does come with a book. It is more substantial than the standard LWB, with little black and white illustrations of the cards.
The art style reminds me of something out of a Cosmopolitan "girl power" - type story. Cheery and perky (both in terms of emotions and in terms of bosoms) and about as intimidating as a fluffy teacup poodle. A good deck for those who are sensitive toward some of the images traditionally portrayed in a harsher manner.
My favorite card is Bondage, which is this deck's version of the Devil. It reminds me a little of the Fey Tarot (just this one card, and maybe a couple others).

I picked this deck up today- at half the price of normal decks it was well worth it. The pictures are bright, groovy, original and many are a wee bit saucy ;-) LOL
the card stock is the thickest I've ever seen, combined with large cards means shuffling is a little hard.
The keywords are a bit of a pain- they are quite constricted in their application- coins always relates to career or money, cups seems to be about love- while all true I see them as representing a wider theme.
Her explanation for not including the courts is that the major arcana describes people as well.
Having said that- it's big, bright and beautiful- I think I love it!
Oh, and it's Aussie (!!)- offhand I can only think of Granny jones (ick) that is an Australian designed deck. I think it captures the mood well- a very Sydney or Byron Bay feel to it.

I have small hands and yes shuffling is a bit of a pain but then again I shuffle the Healing with the Angels/Fairies cards all the time so I am used to the size. This just has more cards. What I am trying is to separate the cards into 3 piles and then shuffle each pile separately and then shuffle them together. It's a bit easier than trying to mix ALL those big cards at once. As for the keywords.. yea, I dont like a few of them. I'm bugged by the one for the Magician. "Intuition and taking chances". Well, the Fool is about taking chances too! And then also, in the book, there isnt anything mentioned about the Magician needing intuition and taking chances. It might be a misprint but I dont think so. It;s like that in the book too (the pic of the card in the book). Ahh well.. so am trying to think how to tie it all in. I guess the Magician needs to take a chance because she has all the powers available to her to do that and she just needs to use her intuition as to when to act. Hmmmm (??)

Hm, good point.
Perhaps, Intuition and taking chances means acting on those feelings- directing the intuition into action. That's a magician like thing to do. It's I guess a more controlled taking of chances than the Fool.
