Trying to enter the cards and determine which deck may be the only one to enter into the future - and there is only one time-capsule - which would it be?
For me, it would be the... as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, for ever and ever...;)

There is a Tarot deck with art by Dali. I don't own the deck and I certainly never read with it, but I think the fact that its images were created by such a celebrated artist in my eyes would qualify it to be preserved throughout time...

i would choose either the rider waite smith or the thoth b/c both have stood the test of time and remain popular.

Hummm to me the deck I would want to put in a time capsule would be the one I make myself :) What a neat find for the person that opens it but a rare deck that means so much to me :)

ROBIN WOOD! You all knew I was gonna say that.
Though, if there was only one Tarot deck allowed in the whole Universe, to be put in a time capsule, I would go with a Rider Waite with a Thoth printed n it's back (So it's a 78 card deck but actually two-in-one) so that we can have the Tarot renaissance all over again, and peopel could go around creating new decks again...!

Hmmmmm hard one - a toss up between Thoth and Rider Waite- for the same reasons Truthsayer mentioned - they have stood the test of time.
But only one can go in the capsule.......oh its hard.....i think I will have to go with.......Thoth, yep Thoth, its artwork is worth preserving.

jmd: I don't think to many people are familiar with this deck, but from the iconography threads I have followed and the pictures I have seen, I agree with you! Tell them some more. Show us some pix. (isn't this the one with the the fool with a tool?)
As Kiama says: "Groovy"

Regarding the Dali Tarot, it is wonderful that a well known and respected artist has also produced a Tarot deck (a collaged deck, for those who haven't seen it), but I do not think that this warrants it being the deck which may have the opportunity of being the sole representative. It is a great deck to own - and wasn't cheap even when it came out.
With regards to the Conver, it isn't the Marseilles in which the Magician holds a 'tool' (that is the earlier Noblet deck), but a good and solid 'standard' Marseilles.
Again, I should add that it isn't even my personal favourite (the Camoin and the Hadar probably take that crown for full decks) - rather, it is that this Marseilles has all and every element from which a fullness of tradition can be re-created.
I wish I could attach a full version of the deck, but cannot - I have attached the seven of Cups...

I completly understand and respect the idea of putting a traditional or classic deck in the capsule, but as anyone who knows me would expect I would put the Cosmic Tribe in it. There are various reasons why (nudity in the deck is NOT one of them), but they are certainly not historical in nature.

How about a composite deck - would that be allowable?
A deck made up of the 'best' Fool, the best 'Hermit', the best '3 of swords' and so on.
No need for a time-capsule though, as I suspect there would still be people arguing the relative merits at the time when the capsule was due to be opened. *lol*

i've changed my mind (as is my right as a female ;) ) i think either the FACT or SACT should be included. therefore, aeclectians can all share a form of immortality thru tarot.

I have seen the Dali deck. It is a majors only, and Dali didn't have a complete artistic control over it. It is a sort of collage deck and really nothing like the Dali artwork you might be used to. Very disappointed when I saw it.

Mh... I think that the best choice would be... To add 3 MINI decks :D *LOL* So in that one-deck room you can cram more. :P *LOL* A mini RW, a mini Thoth and a mini Marseille (to be created if doesn't exists yet). So to encompass mot of the history of Tarot.
And possibly a DVD with burnt on there all the images of all the decks ever produced so far, so that if needed they could be printed again... :D *LOL*

I don't think it's a Majors only. Anyway I could pretty much understand the disapointment - even though one landing on my lap would be great! ;) *lol*

This is how you recognize the real tarotholic: you ask them a question with: choose one deck... and they will always come up with creative solutions to choose more :D
There are many decks I like but that are not important from a historical viewpoint. The Thoth probably is important in that sense, but I could never read with it myself, and I don't want to leave a deck behind I can't even read with.
I'll go with the Universal Waite...but I will give instructions as well to use this deck as a prototype to create their own decks, and of course tell them to start a discussion forum.
Then watch from my little corner in the sky how the next generations come up with something beautiful :)

jmd: Are you asking which deck we think should be taken into the future? Or which deck will allow us to enter into the future? I understand the latter.
So if you mean the deck that will ease our journey into the future, which will allow us to enter into the future in a time-capsule, then I think the Navigators of the Mystic Sea would be a good one. It is quite fascinating, and very science fiction like.
If you are asking which deck we think should be taken with us into the future, then I'll go along with your choice gladly.
