At a psychic fair last year there was a reader who had an extremely interesting deck he was willing to let me look through. It was recent (not older than 1980 I think), but I haven't been able to find it anywhere, not even in the listing of decks here on Aeclectic (and yes, I looked through ALL of them). He didn't know the name of it, it was given to him without a box.
What I do know is that the cards were colorful, showed modern scenes, the art was very nice to look at (realistic, not exagerated, no particular style other than 'magazine modern'). One of the minor cards showed musical instruments piled up in a corner of a living room--flute, clarinet, saxaphone, etc.
They were fairly large cards 3x4 1/2" approx. and professionally put out, not a self publish I don't think. The backs had an intricate design that was reversable.
Does this ring a bell with anyone? He absolutely loved it and I wanted to know what the name of it was but he couldn't help me out at all, his 'friend' had moved away & he'd never seen another like it anywhere else. I'd appreciate knowing a little more about the deck, if it seems familiar with anyone?

There are a few minor cards in the Wheel of Change tarot by Alexandre Genetti (sp?) which have musical instruments as wands. Could it be that one?

Was it a Tarot deck?

Ha ha, Lee :)
I think the outer borders of the card were white, with a thin black line between that and the inner picture.
No, I took a look at the Wheel of Change & that wasn't the one, the cards are too thin, too. The ones I saw were wider, but not a square, still rectangular.

We need more details! Tell us more HudsonGray! ;)
Should I ask question...? Like...
Completely drawn images?
Bright, dark or middletone colours?
Borders? And how were the titles and keywords designed?

It was more than 9 months ago..........I do remember bright colors, clear drawings, not a lot of shading. Realistic. Sort of in the red color range on most cards. Very like illustrations you'd see in a good magazine. I can't remember anything about the numbers, font style or key words. Sorry. We couldn't even find a manufacturer mark on the cards so I don't know which company put it out. Liz & I just drooled over it & reluctantly handed the deck back to him. I haven't seen him at any of the other events I went to since then.
Damn. Probably it'll turn out to be one of those decks that had a limited run or was privately put out on the market & then disappeared. He said he'd had it for 5 years, but didn't know how long the other person had had it.

I just added the Rohrig link
I also wanted to know if it was a tarot or oracle deck. There's a lot of self-published decks that seem tarotlike---Vertical Oracle, for example---but it takes some hunting to find it.
I get a vague feeling it might be Rohrig if you say it was oversize, with magazine illustrations, but I don't remember red or musical instruments. Maybe if you remembered more details about the back pattern or cards, that might help...but take your time.
Best wishes,
Mari

It was tarot, it had majors. I can't remember the back color or design. Oh well.

I did a quick spot check through my collection to see if anything "rang a bell," but with apologies, the information provided wasn't enough to make anything I could find seem like a likely candidate. I couldn't find anything like the "musical instrument" minor in going through the Rohrig cards.
But, if you're not burned out from checking the entire Aeclectic list, you're welcome to check our online list in its entirety... just go to any Tarot Garden webpage, and hit the "Go" button next to the "Deck QuickSearch" box without entering any criteria, and you'll pull up the entire lot of 850+ entries.
Good luck.

The only NEW thing I can think of is that the musical instruments were piled on a table & chairs on the left side of the card. A few were on the floor. The flute & saxaphone were in about the middle of the card on the left side.
I know that doesn't give much to go on.

I think I got a clue here--does anyone have the Wheel of Change? One of the cards is VERY close to the style, color & artwork that I remember. It's over at this site:

I'm wondering if this is the deck. If anyone has it, can they look through & let me know if there's a card showing the inside of a room with musical instruments in it?
Many thanks!

*sigh* no. Guess it was a false alarm.
Thanks for looking anyway.

Do you remember a garden shed opening up to a universe outside? That is a Wheel of Change painting.
By the way, Alexandra Genetti did two cards for the Artist Inner Vision, but I haven't found cards with a stack of musical instruments yet.
http://www.psymon.com/tarot/about.html
She also did the Jumbledance Tarot, but I haven't found online pictures of that yet.

There's a lot of the deck shown over on the artist's site for the Jumbledance collage deck.
http://www.mcn.org/b/thewheel/jumbledance.html
It's self published though, back in 1998, I don't know how easy it would be to get a copy.
I've seen copies of part of the Inner Vision deck (Wish I'd have sprung for one when it was advertised in Rubber Stamp Madness! They had a whole article on it back when it first came out). The artwork isn't the same as what I remember, the Inner Vision is a multi media deck (collage) & the one I saw was drawn.
Oh well.......(but anyway, I DID find you a link for that other deck so it's not a complete loss).
