After all the information and plaudits and nagging from Diana amongst others ;), I went to search for a Marseilles deck that was aesthetically OK to my eyes.
I've ended up ordering two (*cough*) so I may yet be converted. Both the 1968 reprinting of the Conver (1760) deck, and also the Camoin and Jodorowsky deck. I've ordered them from the Camoin shop http://www.camoin-cie.com/index.html as I couldn't find another place to get them that has sensible European prices. I decided I'd rather have the reprint than the Lo Scarabeo reproduction.
I also like the look of the Fournier one, that'll have to wait though.

ps http://www.camoin.com/ has piccies of the wooden plates for the 1760 cards amongst other stuff

That Diana is a pain in the neck - why can't she leave people alone. Soon everyone will be buying Marseilles decks and everyone will be hanging over in the Hysterical (oops, sorry, Historical) forum. They'll have to make more room there.
Hey jmd! Bring out some more chairs!
Oh Aerin! Congratulations!!!!!! :)

Heh, yeah she is, isn't she???? I am surprised that she didn't mention the Study of the Marseilles pips: The Two's that has just begun a comprehensive study of the Marseilles pips over in the Histrionical, errr, Historical forum to gather some insight into the Marseilles pips that so elude many people.
And congrats to you Aerin... though I have had a Marseilles deck for nearly 20 years.. I am really a new recruit to the cult of the Lady de Marseilles... errr, that is Diana.

When I get my decks, I'll be there to do study like the good girl that I am.
Do I have to dress up or anything to get admitted?
Or have a certificate signed by someone?
I don't think I've ever been to the Hysterical forum before.

You are not the only one. I also ordered 2 decks. I wanted the Camoin but could not find it anywhere. Alas Diana found someone who was willing to trade so I will be getting that soon. In the meantime I had already ordered the LoScarabeo which should be here any day now.
BTW you don't have to wait for your deck to come in to join the group on the pips. Kaz was nice enough to scan the cards for us. You can still come check it out.
See you at the Histerical Society!

If anyone has a problem getting hold of a Tarot of Marseilles, please let me know. I'd be happy to buy the one you have chosen and ship it to you.
Aerin: you don't have to get dressed up or anything to join the Hysterical forum. You should see how Khatruman is attired sometimes - it's enough to make you blush!

I'm keeping an eye out for the boxers.
My decks arrived this morning. The 1968 reprint is very exciting, and definitely not to be used much in case I hurt it. It is wrapped in a blue paper with a piccie on the front and something on the side explaining they reprinted it for the printer's anniversary. It feels old. It has been sitting there for 35 years waiting for someone to buy it! I managed to ease it out of the paper carefully to look through: you can see the gaps where the woodcut has worn, the cards are exciting. I have managed to get it back inside its wrapping.
The Camoin deck is very nice. The colours are clear and not jarring, it works very well. I'm pleased with it, all the research prior to purchase was well worth it. This is a deck to use.
:D
