I'll be going out for my birthday again in a few weeks and I'm planning on picking up a few new Tarot Decks. I would like your input on the following decks.........................These are decks that I looked at that really spoke to me !!!!

1. Dream of Life Tarot

2. Daughter of the Moon Tarot-- I love the fact that this deck is round.

3. Goddess Oracle

4 Triple Goddess Tarot

5. Shapeshifter Tarot

6. Guardians of Wisdom

Any suggestions that you may have of decks that you love would be greatly appreciated !!!!!

Guardians of Wisdom looks cool..A deck on my wish list...the rest...well they are very feminine decks....You are going for more femine attributes?

Shadow Wolf  31 Mar 2003
Yep. I'm trying to access a little Goddess power. I live in a house with 5 males. The latest addition being a Shiba Ina puppy named Max.

Dream of Life Tarot?

I'll look it up. It's not Dance of Life?

Eager hunting,

I own NONE of the above - poor me... :(

ANYWAY, Guardians of Wisdom is not precisely my type of deck, but when I read it in your wishlist it felt very right. Yeah, say I am stupid... But I think that if you want to reach some more "feminine power" as you say, it might be a very good choice. })
And Triple Goddess looks very good in the few pics I saw and I have heard nice things (as well as the posts and messages on here). Even though I am not personally interested in it, I think it might be the second best choice in your situation... ;)

I don't like Shapeshifter, when I look at iut online I get the worst headache...
Daugthers of the Moon: BIG NO!!! Too Feminine, too feminine really...
I don't like Dance of Life (if that's the one), and don't know Dream of Life. Goddess Oracle is lovely, but I would rather go for one of the two above, I think they are more interesting... Studying and working with a feminine energy shaped into tarot structure is more useful, in my view, than just working with an oracle created from the blue and with its own system. YAY FOR TAROT!!! :*

Of the decks you have on your list I only have the shapeshifter, and it has never given me a headache !
I find it a good deck for spiritual questions. I have never considered that feminine...Male and female are equally present in this deck. It's a good deck if you like animals and nature in general. It takes a little getting used to though, with renaming of suits and courts, and 3 extra majors.
I never found this a big drawback though. But then I loved this deck the moment I saw it.

daughters of the moon!
i have it and love it. it is lush and colourful and pretty and round and HUGE and i can use it even though it is unconventional and i don't have the book.
be aware that it is not like any "normal" tarot deck though. many of the minors have changed meaning in an attempt to even-out the negativity of the swords.

it is not a deck for everyone though. but if you like the pictures you have seen and want a round and feminine deck i say "go for it!"

Thanks for the input, I'll keep them in mind !!!!!

I have & use the Daughters of the Moon deck. There are a few of things you need to be aware of with this deck. (Mine is the old black & white version. They have revised some of the cards since then, however. I refuse to buy the color version until I finish coloring mine in.)

The first is that there is only one card that officially includes a male...Pan, who is a happy-looking fellow, frolicking on a mountaintop with billygoats, while holding the hand of a young child.

This deck includes two variations of The Lovers. One has two women...the other has two "androgynous beings" swimming amongst seaweed that oh-so-conveniently obscures their genitalia. Honestly, to me it looks like two guys, but whatever. There's something in the book about using whichever version you prefer, but I include both versions when I read, since they seem to express slightly different things to me.

There are a few other interesting features:
-- The court cards are Maiden, Mother & Crone.
-- The Fives of each suit express the negative manifestation of that element (hurricane, volcano, storm, earthquake).
-- It's very PC...multi-racial, multi-ethnic, features many body shapes & weights...plus a positive portrayal of empowered women-in-wheelchairs. Whoo-hoo!
-- Several different artists worked on the deck & the style & quality of the artwork varies. It still works together as a whole for me, though.

The book gives some interesting background info, but it isn't absolutely necessary. If you have an allergy to creative spelling (wimmin, womyn, etc.), you might want to give it a miss & just look up the Goddesses in a reference book. Patricia Monaghan's _The Book of Goddesses and Heroines_ has all of them, I believe.

I only use this deck when reading for myself, especially when dealing with internal states or my attitudes towards situations ("me-me-me, it's all about me" readings). ;) When I'm more interested in external things or anything involving males, I use a different deck.

the Goddess Oracle is one of the decks that I actually bought this evening. I couldn't wait for the drive back home to look at them. I have had the Goddess Knowledge cards for a while and just last week bought the Goddess Tarot. I too have been trying to add a little Goddess back into my life.

The cards on this deck are just lovely! As I was looking at the illustrations there was a 1000 watt smile stretched across my face. I think I finally found what I may have been searching for in the other decks mentioned above. The depictions were just what I had imagined the Goddesses of these different religions might be portrayed as. The only disturbing card, to me, was Sheila Na Gig. The card shows an older woman (80's perhaps) in the exact position as this fertility Goddess is shown in drawings and figures. After thinking back on seeing the previous articles and pictures of her, I realised why the age was used. She has, not to my knowledge anyways, been portrayed as a young vibrantly beautiful figure. Not that woman of the 80's age are not beautiful.. its just the position.. you will understand once you see the card. So please don't misunderstand me on that point.

The card quality themselves seem to be over all well. They are a bit thin and easily flexable. How ever, they are well laminated and will seem hold up to good regular use. They are oversized and as all oversized cards, might be difficult to shuffle.

Well I will stop blabbering now!
I hope when you receive these cards you will enjoy them as much as I hope to.

Blessings,
Amaya
