hi,
i got my copy of "the complete book of tarot reversals"by mary greer. I like the hanged man card illustrating the cover. Inside the book, it is said "cover art by brian williams". Ok, is there a complete deck from williams with this hanged man or is it just an isolated masterpiece?
thanks very much!
kissa
here is an amazon link to have a look at the cover: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1567182852/ref=lib_dp_TFCV/002-2580870-2331229?v=glance&s=books&vi=reader#reader-link
IF SOMEONE WOULD LIKE TO BUY THIS BOOK AFTER VIEWING IT HERE :
i hope that a purchase made from a forum link still contributes to support aeclectic. as i am not sure though, i encourage you to go back to the aeclectic pages (not the forum) and use an amazon link there.

This card is part of the Tarot of the Rennaisance, by Brain Williams. Very good deck. Enjoy

The card shown is very similar, but not the same as the hanged man in B. Williams's Renaissance Tarot. I looked just now to be sure. (BTW, Brian Williams's was my very first tarot deck.) I hope this helps. blessings, wolfen

i'm confused gerbear. i have googled and checked tarotgarden, but what i've found, called 'the tarot of the renaissance' by brian williams, is a minchiate deck that looks nothing like this.
i have the 'renaissance tarot' and this is not from that deck either.
do you have a link to the deck you are referring to?

Sorry for any confusion. I need to check my prescription, other than that, I don't know. There are several "Rennaisance" decks.
You can try Brain Williams homepage at www.tarocon.com. You can find most of his artwork there.

It looks like he did at least four decks (Ship of fools, Pomo, etc.). The URL on the previous post gets you to his memorium page (he died) and you can click on Tarot Decks selection on the left to see some of the art.
I did a google search on 'Brian Williams tarot artist' and a lot came up. There should be connections there to all his stuff.

Brian Williams wrote the text for the book accompanying the Tarot of Light and Shadow, and he designed the Renaissance Tarot, PostModern Tarot, the Ship of Fools Tarot, and a reworking of the Ancient Minchiate Etruriate deck. Here is a link to his Renaissance Tarot: http://www.tarotpassages.com/renais.htm.
The illustration on the cover of Greer's book does not apear to be from any of those decks, however, nor do I find it on the late Mr. Williams' website (see the link provided by Gerbear, above). Perhaps it was a variation on the final illustration for the Hanged Man in the Ancient Minchiate Etruriate, as that comes the closest, but the arm positions are different.

Ahh, so maybe 'Cover art by Brian Williams' means just that--he did an illustration for them to put there, they didn't take it from a specific deck.
I wonder if he had prints of variations done on some of the different cards in the decks he did, he might ahve 2 or 3 different versions of some cards & used one of those.

Brian Williams' website has a virtual gallery link that shows many of his illustrations, but I didn't see this particular version of the Hanged Man in the on-line gallery, either. I guess the only way to know for sure where the image comes from would be to contact Mary Greer or members of Williams' family (who manage his website).

Before Brian Williams died Llewellyn commissioned him to do a special cover card for all the titles in their Special Topics in Tarot. I think the job has been taken over by various other deck artists.

I seem to remember reading somewhere (may have been the Llewellyn website, may have been a review somewhere) that he was going to create whole new cover art for the entire series. So this would not be part of an existing deck.
