i wrote half a page of review hit open pm pop up and lost it. so here we go again.
i am a novice when it comes to baseball, having only watched baseball movies like the babe, for love of the game, the rookie, the rookie, angels in the outfield, the natural, to name a few.
I got the deck last year at a discount for i loved the artwork (which in my opnion is better then the tarot of the baseball)
it is made by mark lerner and laura philips, who i believe are the creator of the innerchild cards.
still i open up the fine 300 plus half size book that comes with it. and almost a quarter of the book has how to read, spreads and stuff.
then i got to the actual tarot meanings of each card and i said bah, hey wait a minute that could be and learned some stuff here.
here is the major arcana which are archtypes we see when we look at baseball in general.
0. rookie, the player with potential.
1. all star player he is striving to be the best
2. coach, the person who teaches others.
3. natural, the inherent talent released.
4. the legend, the natural has become the legend of who will be remembered as the best.
5. the manager my way is the only way.
6. the team, relationships
7. control direction.
8. power, passion (the passion to play your best and change the game )
9. reflection, realizaing things like eventually one must retire.
10. the breaks, what goes around comes around.
11. umpire fairness and pros and cons of consquences.
12. slump accepting one own flaws.
13. retirement, (the picture shows a scene that is like the ending of the babe when john goodman walks down the hall ), moving on to a new life.
14. the hereo, optism.
15, the goat, attitude. it became the goat when it attitudes becomes long term
16. whole new ball game, something happens to make it so, it shows a lighting in the distance, , reminds me of the natural movie in a sense. shocking change.
17. batting a thousand. an aweinspiriing ideal
18.the catcher, the cylce nature of the moon,
19.the pitcher, the sucess, the heart of the team.
20. the rule book, go to the source,
21. the world series, perfection.
as i read the two pages at least on each of these , i saw it means more, and baseball in a general light.
then i moved on to the minors.
(i noticed the first two of the minors are like forces that happens the king aspect is the mvp and the queen is the teacher)
mitts is cups.
ace of mitts internal beginnings,
two of mits, double play harmony enables us to achieve that.
three of mitts triple play , even better eheh (the subtitle is celebrating cooperaton)
four of mitts, foul, subtiled pulling back, (this refers to having the judgment to pull back to catch the foul ball)
five of mitts, error, subtitled accepting imperfection. learned a lot reading that one.
six of mitts. nostraliga , loving memories (shows like unifroms and old magizines and baseball cards.
seven of mitts, out of reach choosing reality,
this refers to the fanasty play that some reach for though it is out of reach.
eight of mitts, fielders choice taking a new path. the path is before you do you throw the ball to first base or to third.
9 of mitts. pop fly , delighting in the daily. (enjoying catching the pop fly)

this refers to teammates chatting, developing a bond that will last.

those playful catches that people talk about
13 of mitts, coatch of mitts learning new ways of heart and spirit.
14. of mitts, mpv of mitts, accomplishments of heart and spirit.
the suit of balls, balls being swords here, (balls flying through the air perhaps )
ace of balls, new mental beginnins,
two of balls the balk, confroting choices, (do i pitch the ball or throw it at the runner on base to scare him )
three of balls, shake off admitting unhappiness. (shows a pictcher shaking his head vigouresly good anology )
four of balls, sidelined, healing retreat (makes sense to me as four of swords is about resting)
five of balls, the curve ball winner takes all (throwing the curve balls gives you an advantage, a true curveball for a real game won't be seen in a friendly game between friends)
six of balls, fastball, postive movement, (usally i saw this as a choice to stop the suit and retreat here, it is a choice to step it up a notch with clarity and speed and precision )
7 of balls, spitball unethical means, (shows a pictcher sweating rubbing the ball while glancing back a looming umprie knowing at any minute he could get caught)
8 of ball,s choke losing direction, your best comes nowhere near your true best, you choke due to your mind.
9 of balls, strike out mourning a loss, only thing to do when you get struck out is move on, (or run if the catcher drops the ball eheh)
10 of ball,s sacfrice, elavuting trade offs, (shows a blunt) trading off a blunt for a possible home run or at least a base.
11 of balls, no hitter, determine attention in other words the pefect game.
12. of balls, whild pitch impulsive action without thought
13 of balls couch learn new ways of thinking,
14. of balls , mvp intellectucal accomplishments.
the bats.
ace of bats, beginning action (yeah wands is bats )
two of bats, take a pitch, waiting to see
three of bats, single building sucess.
four of bats, grand slame celebrating sucess.
five of bats, rhubarb, destructive fighting (rush them )
six of bats home run acting with confidence,
seven of bats, line drive, acting with mainting postion.
8 of bats, batter up, speedy movement , the time is now.
9 of bats, out , failed action,
ten of bats, bases loaded, carrying responsiblity it is all up to you .
11 of bats switch hitter, changing creatively
12 of bats, extra innings, pursing adventures, (the games isn't over til it is truely over. )
13 of bats, coach learn new ways of actions.
14 of bats, mpv for accomplishments of actions.
the bases, pentacles, basiclaly
ace of bases, pratical beginnings.
two of bases, pick off , pratice juggling (pick him off before he had a chance eheh)
three of bases, safe, going places,
four of bases hugging the bases, ensuring security
five of bases rundown, coping with defeat. (rundown refers to when the two people have the runner in between then and closing the gap and the runner is running back and forth trying to make it )
six of bases, walk sharing gifts,
seven of bases on deck waiting for results. (consider the 7 of pentacles card he is waiting resting watching his plants grow , thinking of the day he can harvest them ) here he is waiting to see if he is going to be a batter up.
8 of bases. eye on the ball developing disciplines, ( the little story says a guy praticed all his life with a bat, natural ? pratice )
9 of bases, home plate, reaping rewards.
10 of bases, winning steak satifyign stablity,

13/coach of bases, learn new ways of the world
14, mvp of bases pratical accomplishment.s
i like the deck look, the card meanins once i spent time to explore it , and i think it helps me to look at other tarot in new ways.

i bought the baseball tarot and tarot of baseball for my baseball nut husband. i have enjoyed looking through the deck, too. even though he doesn't have a clue about tarot, he can practically read the cards just knowing so much about baseball. how many decks are that good? :)

I have gotten a lot of good readings from the Baseball tarot. I particularly like the meanings breakdown (for the minors) into Ahead of/Behind the Count (upright and reversed meanings, basically), The Player (gives a court card like meaning), The Signal (very Verb oriented! Uses words like Focus, Enjoy!, Honor, Accept, etc.), The Play (sort of a "big picture", like "successful completion of a project", or "trapped in counterproductive patterns"), The Stuff (more one word clues, this time more what/where you are than what you might do, like courageous, excited, anxiety, agitation, frustration, jealousy), and In the Ballpark (a list of questions to consider that may be relevant to you given the cards energy). I also like the 3 card "Hit, Ball, Strike" spread. Hit being an advisable move, Ball and action that might help, and Stike the wrong way to go. Sometimes it's just as handy to know what not to do!

I picked up the combined book/deck set of the Baseball Tarot on ebay for something like a fiver and that included the shipping cost from the states. I think the guy selling them that cheap was a baseball card collector that had been hoping to sell them to baseball card enthusiasts.
The entire system is very well thought out and I can easily imagine any baseball fan being able to pick it up and use it straight away without much recourse to the book.
Can't see myself ever using it though - I'm far too attached to my Spiral. })
