Yesterday I ordered Gill tarot deck and book set, Phantasmagoric theater tarot and Crow's Magick tarot deck and book set with a gift certificate I received at Barnes and Noble. I've been eyeing these 3 decks for awhile. I can't wait for them to ship now! I"ll let you know what I think of them in person when they arrive. Those of you that have any of these 3 deck/books what do you think of them?
Blessings,

Yeah!!! what a great order!!! You got the phantasmagoric thats one of the best decks ever IMO ofcourse ;)
I simply love this deck. Its weird, its silly (and i like that) but the readings you get with this deck are deep intense and clear and not silly at all.
The little white book is a treasure with little stories about evry card and most of the people/creatures even have names.
And most of the minor arcana cards gave me a whole new way to look at the "normal" meaning. This decks is loaded with AHA cards!!!

I hope you will like this deck as much as i do

i only can second this opinion, the phantasmagoric is a real treasure, if you like something special and very good at the same time this is the one!!! it's this one who made the relation with tarot more intimate, i actually can say, the phantasmagoric is my soul mate (next to the faeries oracle), the lwb is just gorgeous, super and the art is splendid...what can i say :D i just LOVE it!!!

with love,
sara.

I really like the Gill and Phantasmagoric. All the decks you ordered are so different and each presents a fascinating side of tarot study.

The Gill is kabbalistic, but doesn't have to be used in that way, and some of the illustrations are among the most beautiful anywhere -- especially Death, the Hermit and the Empress (my favorite Empress, actually, because the symbolism used is so powerful and well done). Many people are very bothered by the keywords on the pips, but they have never stood in the way of my personal interpretations.

The Phantasmagoric Theater illustrations might appear childlike initially, but they are anything but -- that deck yields very deep readings and the images seem more dreamlike than fairytale-like to me.

Crow's Magic is a beautiful deck in its own way -- even majestic, in its striking images. Although it is computer-generated, those birds actually seem to have personalities and my sense is that it is a wise deck -- but I haven't worked with it at all in readings.

Enjoy your beautiful new decks! :)

Well, I guess I just don't quite get it with the Phatasmagoric Theater, or for that matter the Halloween tarot, and why people rave about them so much. I am sure that they can yield deep readings if you really study them, but they just don't seem to have that feeling motivator I need when reading. I do like the Gill deck, for mainly its majors. Not quite sure about the idea of the large numbers in the minors. Some of them to me vaguely remind me of something from Sesame Street... At least in the Wands suit. The cups and swords seem to do something more to incorporate the imagery. Just not keen on the wands, which is normally my favorite suit.

In any case, I hope you enjoy your new acquisitions. I am on hold for new decks now while I get to know the slew of new ones I just got..*L*

Peace

i really can understand that, i must admit that when i bought them, i boughted them because i liked them, because they were so different, and because of the fact it pictures the life of the theater what interested me because in my study we have a lessonsession called 'theater science'...so that's the WHY, but when they arrived, they really surprised me, they had a special feeling around them, i can't explain it exactly but a positive and almost treasure aura, and if you see the whole concept, all the cards it all just feels so right, if you read the stories of every card, the person, or group persons pictured, it's interesting and very easy to understand and remember, it's a whole story, and every card is one moment in that story...a very deep feeling, with a rich symbology, you feel that the person who have created it, know a LOT of tarot, it's not just an art/fancy deck...for me a real treasure, even that i didn't expect it, i expected to like it, not that the use of them would be so special :) so connected...hmmm

but if the art isn't your piece of cake, i can understand, the connection will not be made i think, it have to click, but if you like the art, you won't be dissappointed, definatly not, it's a very underestimated deck on the first sight...

Thank you for the observations. That does help me understand the deep connection many seem to feel with the deck. I cannot say it is making me buy the deck (mainly since there are many that are now screaming for my attention.. :D), but it gives me a better sense of what is going on in that deck. I guess that is one of the drawbacks to relying on a few random card images on a web site.

I second Khatruman with regard to the Phantasmogoric. My particular tastes don't find much in fantasy art. As I grow older (age 44 now), perhaps I'll grow to enjoy such decks.

With that in mind, I do have the Gill, having bought it over the weekend.

The Gill seems to have a lot of fans, despite the fact of having pips instead of pictorial minors. I'm still getting used to the Gill, and I imagine I'll be doing some readings with it over the next few weeks.

As I'm an intuitive reader, I don't follow the Qabbalistic themes in the deck. It'll be interesting to see how the readings pan out.

I have had the Gill for a little over a month now and I love it, especially for the pips. It started with the Vision Quest deck, and then I got the Gill and that kind of cemented it for me. I like the unillustrated pips, or should I say partially illustrated pips better. I feel like they don't lock me in to an interpretation. The Gill's Pips are illustrated though. I think it is amazing how she added meaning to the card just in how she portrayed the number! I also like how having partially illustrated pips puts them in perspective when you are reading.

I hope you get as much from the Gill Tarot as I do! Let us know what you think of your new decks.

Yesterday I got my 3 decks. All I can say is "Woowsa"! Like someone mentioned they are all very different but very solid decks. I love them. The Gill is fabulous. I like the minors a lot. The 2 of cups is probably my favorite minor. The courts are some of the nicest I've seen too. I look forward to reading the book and learning about the kabbalah. The Phantasmagoric Theater is a hoot!! I agree that a lot of the cards in the minor show the meanings in a quite untraditional way, but there are definately "aha" moments. This decks has a lot of substance to it, don't take it lightly. The Crow's Magick is very unique also. I like the 3-d affect. I can't wait to read the book as I'm sure it explains some of the symbols on the cards in better detail. I like animal decks.

Ah, one of life's greatest pleasures is ordering several decks, and liking each one! I know you'll have a ball getting to know those wonderful cards.

O three new decks...the tarotholic's dream ;)

I'm so glad you like the phantasmagoric and recognize the depth this deck can offer you.
I would love to hear about the experiences you will have with this deck!
