Renaissance .... Secret ... all that Lyle lot....

OK, so I have the Lyle Renaissance Tarot (the one with all of those heads with no faces and the such) and ... well ... the deck is kind of falling apart. Some of the gold bits on the back have faded. So it kind of spoils the fun when you can go "Hey - that card must be the Lovers because the back has that funny faded line on it ...." :)

So I am considering buying a new copy. However, I have just found out that it has been rereleased as "The Secret Tarot". I was wondering, if any of you have bought it yet, whether or not it has still been reprinted STILL of that suprisingly bad cardboard, or whether the manufacturer has gotten their act together this time? And if not, does anyone have any suggestions about how to keep my deck in that lovely pristine condition??

I just got a copy about six months ago, so I would say that it's still in print. Not knowing how bad the cards you refer to were, It's hard to say if there is any improvement, but the ones I have are on a medium cardstock. I would say that they are better than what you describe.

Hi, Laelyan! Like Gerbear, I don't know what the previous card stock was like, but I have the reissued deck (purchased a few months ago), and the stock seems just right to me -- sturdy, smooth and easy-to-shuffle.

Ah yes, The Renaissance Tarot by Jane Lyle, printed by Fireside, Simon and Schuster.I quite like the deck and the book is very good. BUT it wins the prize for worst print job for a deck in my entire collection! For starters it came with 2, 4 of pentacles , and no 7 of pentacles. (I drew 3 more pents on one of the 4's!) , Then on some of the wand cards especially there are white spots where the color failed to print properly. Looks like it's flaking or rubbing off. THEN when I hold all the cards together I notice that some are slightly taller than others! AND you can see that they came from 2 different "batches" as the blue varies slightly in shade.
I have no idea if the "Secret Tarot" (same deck new name) is of a better print quality or a different print company. Maybe someone knows? I wonder if the deck is same size, as the one I have is rather large.

Wow, purplelady, that's really a shame! The current release of the deck is of quite good quality -- the card stock is sturdy, the printing is even and clear, the colors are true and do not flake, and there are no splotches anywhere (at least, in mine). If you like the deck and want another one, maybe it would be worthwhile to purchase the newly released printing -- if there are missing cards (which does seem to be a frequent problem with tarot decks), I am sure that the company would replace them.
