I've read the threads I could find about this deck (which I really like BTW) but I couldn't find any that addressed how incredibly STIFF these cards are. The cards are about 2.5"w x 3"h, and that size is really nice. But they are so hard to shuffle! Does anybody have any suggestions as how to improve this? Also, the coating seems to make them "stick" to each other! Help, please!!

my advise is not to force the shuffling process. Just let them flow from your hands. The stickiness will vary with teh tempreture (i left them in my car on a hot day and the deck broke into two almost even piles). Also riffling works wonders with this deck, the cards go where they feel they should unless they hit eachother and fly all over, it takes practice.
personal note:
the five of pentacles is a little odd, i wonder what the inspiration was for this.

Yes, they are stiff and thick and do tend to stick. Because of the way I select cards (I fan them and then pick from anywhere) I don't worry too much about shuffling so this doesn't bother me. I do cut plenty of times with this deck though.
Don't they sort of crack/ crease if you try to riffle shuffle? They don't seem very bendy to me.

Hi all,
I have had some very sticky cards in the past. My Inner Child deck was very bad. I sprinkled some ashes from my favorite incense on the cards and then wiped it off. This really seems to have helped. Collectors probably wouldn't want to do this because it does very faintly scratch the deck. If anyone else has some ideas for sticky cards, please let me know.

There is always the "cauldron method" of shuffling: Lay all the cards on a flat surface and stir with your hands, scrambling thoroughly. Think "Go Fish". It's one of my favorite ways to shuffle, it won't bend the cards (unless perhaps you are incredibly wild with it) and it works for all thicknesses of cards.

with hard to shuffle decks, i start 7 stacks of cards and deal out until the cards are gone. then i put each section together. i do this a couple of times until they feel mixed.

Thank you all so much for your ideas. I did try coating each card with a tiny bit of talcum powder, but it didn't do too much other than make a mess. Then I had to wipe off each card to get rid of the powder! I am just resigned to having to either mix the cards up; cutting the deck; or shuffling half at a time. I guess if I had BIG hands I could manage the whole deck. I still like the deck a lot, though. I just don't know about the five of pentacles; what is that creature?

Oh! I do this with a new deck to mix it, also with one I want to mix very thoroughly. I deal the stacks changing the order each time, I don't have them in a straight line more in a circular/ spiral pattern.
How strange. I don't think I ever read to do this, it just seemed right - including the 7!!!!

The reversed meaning in the LWB says 'Others try to make you conform. Reserve the right to express yourself as you choose'

I suppose it means either:
1. its what you need it to be (and in that case give option 2)
2. search for david ickes, he has some interesting conspiricy theories (rather creepy really) about shapeshifting reptiles who have manipulated humanity. shape-shifters may relate to the conform interpretation--thats all i have to say

I have this deck and I always thought it was a crocodile .. or maybe alligator. Something that is "eating" your money. Like "Beware of the crocodiles" (the people after your money, to steal it or use you to get to it.). That kind of thing. If the crocodiles are eating your money, you wont have any left and then you'll be left out in the cold all alone and looking in the window of a church, like in RW! ;)

I'm getting in on this thread late...
I just bought this teeny little deck as a "gift pack" at my local Barne's & Noble. My curiosity overwhelmed me... What a cute little deck! You're right about them being stiff, though. I've been taking small stacks and thumbing them this way and that to try and get them loosened up a little.
I can't believe I like this little deck! It's very simple, but effective. I also like the stark black background. It feels kind of Russian or Gypsy or something.

perhaps both, it resemples the tarot of St. Petersburg (see www.facade.com for an electronic reading with thsi deck) but the specific symbols are very modern or very ancient. a tortise and a hare at teh feet of temprence, justice balances apples and oranges, the micel like men (or is that human looking mice) resembles "Of Mice and Men" the 7 of sweords shows a rat bastard who is walking on swords. the 5 of cups shows a scene that looks like Morton salt giving the impression that "When it rains, it pours," this is immedietly followed up by a man sitting by a wishing well with a storm cloud above. The pages have foliage or other plantlife growing around them (strawberries for pentalces, peppers for wands, a vine for cups, and mushrooms for swords) The knights each ride an animal of their elements (pentacles=turtle=earth)(wands=horse=fire)(cups=dolphin=water)(swords=eagle=air)
The fool rides a cat, the magician is a rabbit with human features, the chariot os a bicycle, teh animals on the wheel of cortune are a winged cat, a monkey and a rabbit, teh skull and hourglas of death is surrounded by moths, teh devil has a slight of hand feature going on, judgment is a butterfly that carries a key,the 3 of swords is a turnip or an onion being cut at its stalk, the 4 of wands depicts teh bluebird of happiness, the 7 of wands is a skittish cat surrounded by wands, the 8 of wnds is a spokd wheel made of wands with a clock in the center,
3 of the standard playing card symbols make an appearence, spades are the handles of swords (and in teh 3 of swords ther is only 1 sword but 3 spades present), clubs are the tip of the wands, hearts are shown on the front of the cups. diamonds are not for the sut of pentacles.
a very simple deck with powerful universal symbols.

I just can't believe how many different versions of this deck there are :) It really is a neat deck and very inexpensive espeically if you get the boxed kit $7.95.
Now I have to go pull it out again :)

Hi Lark,
Yes, it does come in a bigger size. I have the tiny deck you are talking about - in a little box at the end of a bookmark and the bigger one. The bigger size still isn't as big as a regular deck. I got both at my local Borders Books.
