I would go with Robin Wood. I too liked the Cosmic tarot but there were a few cards there that bothered me, to interpret. Like the 9 of cups.. why does she look so sad? This is a card of abundance and wishes.. she shouldnt look so sad! Things like that. So I'd go with Robin Wood. Each card is clearly illustrated to go along with the traditional Rider Waite meanings and it is really easy to read and colorful! Cosmic tarot is a beautiful deck too but I couldnt understand some of the way the artist interpreted the meanings. Maybe later on down the line, you could get that deck.

P.S! You might also like Hanson Roberts! That is the deck I am using now as I needed a traditional "rider-waite" style deck with no deviations in meaning (so that I can use the deck with any Rider-Waite type book) but yet wanted a colorful whimsical design (to go along with my child-like nature). :) This fit the bill really nicely! :)

I like both decks -- they are very different, so it really isn't possible to pick one over the other in the usual sense. But given the reasons you mention for wanting to try a new deck, and your likes/dislikes about colors, etc., I believe that the Robin Wood is probably a good choice for now. Of course, as a flaming tarotholic, my best advice would be: get both! :)

I have owned both Robin Wood and the Cosmic. While no deck is perfect, the Cosmic has far fewer objections in my view, and is far easier with which to read.

My problem with the Robin Wood is that it is very saccharine. It is sticky sweet with happiness and perky blonde hair. Very few negative vibes from the RW. The Wheel of Fortune is Barbie looking happy, Barbie looking perky, Barbie looking pensive, etc. Here's Barbie http://www.astroamerica.com/t-robin.html

I'll admit the RW is also an easy reading deck. Its a little paganish in feeling, but not overwhelming. However, I think you'll outgrow it in a short period of time.

The Cosmic is much closer to the feeling in your Marseilles deck. The illustrations reflect people and life in everyday situations, and they are drawn very skillfully. http://www.wicce.com/cosmic.jpg

Here's a link to some additional Cosmic cards. http://www.astroamerica.com/t-cos.html

STILL CURIOUS ABOUT WRAETHTHU TAROT - any one any comments?

divinerguy  03 May 2003
I have one of the books, but frankly, I get more out of the deck by studying the cards.

There are some very cool symbols buried in these cards. The backgrounds are especially revealing.

LittleWing -- there are two books about the Cosmic Tarot that I'm of aware of. I have both of them, but IMO they are unnecessary when it comes to reading with this deck. I agree with divinerguy, the cards speak loud and clear without the books. Enjoy your deck!

Did you ever read the books by Storm Constantine? I haven't since it's not my taste in fantasy, but I like the art on the deck. I like the way there is a strong central character on each card.

I wonder if it would be necessary to read the books in order to connect better with the cards? I can't decide if this would limit the appeal of the deck.

where as i enjoy both the robin woods and hanson roberts (although i do not have either they are on my "to obtain list") i would reccomend the cosmic tarot. Since the characters are based on real people (screen stars) they may have features that you and people you know share and thus you may find a few cards that look uncannily like you, your family and your friends. I have and have increased the beauty of the tarot in my life.

well theres my two dollars, two cents won't get you anything anymore you know.

I would like the Cosmic Tarot better as well if it wasnt for that sad looking nine of cups. It's one of about 4 or 5 cards in any deck that help me decide if I want to purchase a deck or not. In this 9 of cups, she looks like the weight of the world is on her. Not a picture of wish fullfillment.. unless her wish was to have her heart broken or something! Why does she look so sad? Doing a reading with that would bother me. I might get that card and wonder if it's a wish card or a sad card..(??)
