Hi,

Normally this week I receive the greenwood tarot deck (i hope). I would love to ask you what do you think of this deck, what are your experiences, results, how do you use it, for what etc…

I searched old threads but they don’t contain much info on the deck and aeclectic don’t have a review from the deck so I would love to hear your opinions, reviews!!!

Thank you very much in advance!!!

with love,
Sara.

I would love to find a copy of it because I find the art and colours so appealing.

I would be interested in what people have to say about it as well Sara. It's my general impression that the deck doesn't get used much, so I'm interested in why.

What could be so terrible? Even unreadable decks have their proponents.

I have the deck, and am one of those who don't yet read with it. There are a couple of reasons for this: firstly, when I first got it the system was sufficiently different from a RWC system that as a complete beginner it confused me. I felt I had enough to do without learning a new deck. Secondly, the keywords got in the way of my intuition.

However, I still love the artwork and I enjoyed the book: now I am a bit further forward I intend to re-explore it and I will have a more balanced view.

I have the Greenwood Tarot and while I don't use it for reading, I do love the deck because of Chesca Potter's gorgeous artwork.
The Greenwood Tarot Handbook ( which "compliments the information in the book that accompanies the Greenwood Tarot cards." ) is available online here:
http://www.herebedragons.co.uk/chesca/cp/green.htm
It also has small but clear scans of each card so those who don't have this deck can check it out.
P.S. The Tarot Garden lists this deck as being out of print so you are way lucky to find it! ENJOY!

I'm so confused! Chesca Potter's website says that the Greenwood is out of print, but that Amazon.com has it.

So I go to Amazon.com, and the only one available is a used one for (gulp!) $75.00!

I look on all the tarot sites I can think of, and I can't find it anywhere.

But then there's lucky rostie...who managed to find a copy! I'm so jealous of you! ;)

There's probably not a lot mentioned on the forum about the Greenwood, because I'm thinking that not a lot of people even have the deck. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd love to hear what people have to say about it, too. Of course, if they say bad things I probably won't listen, because I love the artwork on the deck too much to think badly of it! :D

I guess I'll keep checking Ebay and everywhere else for it. I hope you like it, rostie! Keep us posted!

Peace,

Melvis

you're right, i'm very lucky and don't understand how it was possible ;) it was like it fell out off heaven...

i recieved it yesterday and i have to say it is just, don't have the english words for it but astonishing, so strong, WOW!!!

i don't will use them right now because first i want to read the accompagnien(?) booklet, and the online handbook and get to know them, but i already pull a card to know what to learn from it and it was the guardian about overcomming fears, looking them in the eyes...when i pulled it i knew it would be that card, because it was this one who frightened me the most, i have a lot of trouble with fears, illusions (my teacher card from tarot is the moon ;-))...so maybe with this deck...i can step by step overcome them, i hope so, it feels sacred to me...i'm always been very interested in natural believes, in the celts, in more primitive cultures...i love the wisdom of nature, the strength, if you hold those cards you can feel it...just WOW...i hope we can work well together...i hope...

with love,
sara.

but i'll keep you posted...

I've just got the deck/ book set sara, the lead about the online handbook is very useful. I will check it out.

I got this deck last year, during quite interesting 'coincidences'...

We were discussing the deck here on Aeclectic, and I was lusting after it, (As I usually do with decks). My boyfriend, who didn't know we were discussing it and didn't know I wanted it, and didn't even know it was rare/OOP, was out at the time, and when he came back, he said he had a present for me. (I like presents :) }))

You guessed it... The Greenwood Tarot. He had never seen it before, so guessed it could be rare. Sadly, he only found it in it's cellophane wrap: No box, no book.

The artwork is gorgeous, but I've never read with it, simply because I tried to get my head round it... It is significantly different from the RWS, which makes it difficult to understand. It is a very shamanic deck though, so it would probably suit a Pagan/Shaman, if they could work it out!

I'm going to check out the online handbook... Thanks!

the online handbook contains almost more info about the cards themself than the book that goes with the deck (summary from the major but more info about the minor arcana) so maybe this will help you out, if you want to know more about it if i find a moment i always want to send some info from the accompanying (how do you write this word properly?!) book

the contents are:

preface
introduction

the path through the greenwood
asking the grail question
fate and tarot

major arcana and the wheel of the year
major arcana
court cards
minor arcana
new layouts for counselling and meditation

about the layouts you also can find info on this site: http://bluejay.mind.net/gt/sc.html here you find all the spreads used in the book with info and online oracle...

with love,
sara.

Melvis, I know exactly how you feel. It took me a long time to find a copy of the greenwood, but I finally bought it at ebay for a little under $ 40. It came in a boxed set with a book, that I found not very helpful - it describes the majors but says very little about the minors and the courts, it talks about the Wheel of the year a lot and the place each card has on the wheel. I think I should check out this online book.
The court cards are all animals. The artwork of the deck is really stunning, but I found it confusing to read with it - the renaming and renumbering of the majors for example. I think I should give it another try, as it really appeals to me. I think people close to nature will like this deck very much.
I cannot understand why this deck is out of print, it is so gorgeous. My favourite card is temperance (called "balance" in this deck).
