hey guys...

i just checked out the golden rider waite. i thought it's rather pretty. well, at least prettier than the universal and the original to me...

been wanting to get a rider deck for sometime but just couldnt make up my mind over which versions. do u guys think the golden deck is good? i mean, u know the artist may have left out some important symbols when he repaints the pictures.. do u guys think tat will affect the interpretation of the cards or the "power" of the divination?

hey share your thoughts with me ok??

thankies!!

Hi Alexis,

I don't actually like the way the Golden Rider is painted, the Original Rider Waite isn't a pretty version of the Rider Waite either, but the Golden Rider doesn't do the Rider Waite any favours - some of the symbolism is lost due to the heavy paint effect and the scans I've seen of it online always make me think of painting-by-numbers.
The Universal Waite has been done in a much lighter effect, the pastel colours of the pencils used really adds to the overall effect of the card. It also brings out the details on the Universal Waite that are harder to see of the Rider Waite deck.
I like the Universal Waite and, for the moment, its the only version of the Rider Waite that I would use.
Hope this helps :)

I haven't seen the Golden Rider but you might want to wait for the Radiant Rider Waite before you decide. I'm not sure when it's coming out but Tarot Garden has it on pre-order special till June 15. It looks very nice from the small pictures I can see here (scroll about halfway down).

By the way, I really connect with my Universal Waite and I do think it's good to have at least one variety of these in your collection. Happy choosing!

I agree totally with what Emily says about the Original Rider Waite. I have only ever used this deck, but have found a lot of the images so hard to define. I had looked through countless numbers of other decks to find another that I could use, I didn’t want one for a collection. Then I came across the Universal, and immediately knew that was the one for me, and so am eagerly awaiting its arrival. It has the best of both worlds, Waite’s symbology but in a much clearer form.
Have just looked at Radiant Rider Waite at Tarot garden, but the colours looks a bit garish, I don't like the vivid blue background.
Still that's only my humble opinion.
Gloria.
