He says he likes the medival style. . .

My new boyfriend is a big skeptic - or he was, until I pulled out a reading for him that seemed to fit the situation and question he'd asked, with some fairly sound advice.
So, the little bugger's run off with my Victoria Regina tarot. I figure, the only way I'll get it back is to entice him with a pack and book of his own.
He says he likes the medival style. Which presents a problem to me:
*Do I get him a Marsailles deck, or one of the historical ones with all the extra cards and see if he can adapt them in, since the VR's a RW clone?
*Do I get him another RW clone deck and hope the imagery isn't too fluffy (he'd laugh), celtic (he'd lose interest), or fantasy based (he'd never take it seriously.)
He likes the Victoria Regina because it's a reflection of a particular period in time - and interestingly accurate, at that. The black and white collage art appeals to him too.
But he says, for a deck of his own, he wants a medival deck. And if it came after Constantine but before Byron, I have little to no interest in that part of history.
Suggestions for a good, historically acurate, medival art deck?

Marseille is just as good as a tarot deck can be.
Otherwise a Medieval Scapini! Very very very neat.

I agree with Pollux on the Medieval Scapini. The minors are a bit illustrated,so he will find them easier to learn,I think, and I love the artwork.

I believe that I might have a Medieval Scapini if you want to swap or buy second hand.
Let me know...

Why not run him through the deck images on Aeclectic's main site here? That way he can tell which he really likes from the artwork shown. And if he wants a Regina instead, well you know where to get one of those.

- Medieval Scapini is very nice for U.S. buyers who can find it at their local bookstore. I heard a book is coming out on it. www.tarot.com has scans of the full deck and different marseilles styles.
- The upcoming Golden Tarot by Kat Black. That is almost as authentic as you can get! She has a thread that links to her deck and news on aeclectic if you do a search.
If he wants historical reproductions with English language books, here's a few suggestions that are interesting, have appropriate art but not too heavy with 78 cards and some scenic content in the pips:
Alchemical by Robert Place.
A Renaissance Tarot by Brian Williams.
If you want to check tarotgarden.com or Alidastore.com, the Lo Scarabeo Italian decks also offer many alternatives for those who want the authentic feel. The only 'medieval' deck Lo Scarabeo offers now with a book in English is the Visconti Gold.
Best wishes and hope you get back your Victoria Regina soon,
Mari H.

If you want to err on the side of caution in case this new fella doesn't work out, you could always get him the OLD ENGLISH medieval deck.:O)

Here, show him this site: http://www.advancenet.net/~jscole/tarot.htm
His idea of medieval style might be different than what you think of it. At least on that URL he can see them side by side with several cards represented.
Click on 'classic decks' then to go 'picture is worth 1000 words' for the images to come up side by side.

I appreciate all the input and really like all the options I'm being given!
Wow, I had no idea there were so many middle-ages themed decks. . .
