.. not sure if anyone has posted this..but www.alidastore.com has the new Tarot of the Mermaids by Lo Scarabeo!!

I've been waiting for this one... looks beautiful!

Tarot of the New Vision is also new , I beleive!

Jewel  19 Jun 2003
I have had this on pre-order at Tarot Garden for ever ... glad to see it is printed. I suspect it will have more value as a deck for mermaid lovers rather than anything elese ..... but that works for me! :D

dolphinprincess  19 Jun 2003
I love mermaids too (and dolphins!)... Have you gotten the Doreen Virtue Deck yet??? Its really only good for one card readings, IMHO, but the art is just beautiful!!

I may have to order this one!

Jewel  20 Jun 2003
No I haven't gotten it yet. I am waiting for Faunabay to get it for me *ROFLMAO*. Long running joke between her and I, I keep trying to steal hers *LOL*. I told her if she won't give me hers she can get me one of my own for Yule. I can wait *LOL*.

Celtic_Dragon  22 Jun 2003
I like the new vision deck, I've never thought of having a tarot deck like that. It definately gives you a different angle to look at.

dolphinprincess  26 Jun 2003
I can't see enough pictures to decide whether to buy the Mermaid Tarot. As soon as someone gets it, can you post a description here.

I know the art looks really beautiful.. but I want to see if this is a readable deck * like The Fey * or if it is more of an art deck, like many others from Lo Scarabeo. How traditional are the depictions in the cards?

I'd like to buy decks right now that I can read with as opposed to ones that are strictly for collection. THANKS!!!!

RiccardoLS  27 Jun 2003
The deck has been finally published.

NExt week I will be sending samples out for reviewing.
I was far too busy to have any sort of detailed look on it... anyway my first impression is it is much nicer than I thought.

It will be very traditional (RWS style) deck, so it should be readable, even if not that original and innovative (but maybe originality and innovation is not what people is looking for :)))

Best,

Riccardo

Thanks so much!!!!!

I ADORE my fey tarot.. but i love mermaids and dolphins.. so if this deck is traditional RWS i think it could be a 'must have'... :o)

http://www.tarotpassages.com/mermaids.htm

I counted appearances of about 20 male otherworldly characters or slightly masculine tinged cards...the King of Pentacles has a belly that makes one think of Old King Cole.

These cards mainly have imagined sirens or sea scenes in colors as pretty as the Elisabetta Trevisan's Tarot of the Crystals. It's not a crisp style though. I've said the Pagan Tarot 2000 is eyecatching and lovely, although a sketch-book fantasy style. However the Pagan Tarot suffers if you want your art to be incredibly fine and rivalling masterworks.
This tarot has some of the most expressive, individual faces and mastery of color. If you were developing a collection of stories--as I am--with naiads, sirens, mermen, river gods and hidden grottos, this tarot illustrates how I'd like to dream.
Some people might find it a little too pretty, but I'm guessing that the mermaid idea, it's Rider-Waite style background and the art will be inspirational...I almost wanted it for my desert island deck.

We just received word that the 3rd quarter Lo Scarabeo titles, including the Mermaids Tarot, arrived at the North American distributor's offices yesterday (Thursday, 31 July). So if you're in the U.S. or Canada and have been waiting for this deck, you may not have to wait much longer. Since we're only a geographic hop-skip-jump from the distributor's, and we've prepaid for our order, we expect to receive our supply no later than Monday. Anyone who preordered this title through us should have received, or should be receiving soon, the broadcast email with the details. If you think you preordered this title through Tarot Garden, but you don't receive the informational email by tonight, drop me a line this weekend at jkr@tarotgarden.com to let me know.

I wanted to post this where people who like water spirits and mermaids would find it, hence putting it here. (Personally I also like reading around a deck)

I have just finished reading "Water: Tales of Elemental Sprits" by Robin McKinley and Peter Dickinson. It's excellent. See here http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0441010563

Wonderful book of short stories, even mentions Aerin in the last one :). I particularly liked The Kraken.

Remember a post sometime ago about deciding whether to get the da vinci, book of thoth or the mermaids one?

Yup, i've decided and decided on the mermaids. It was a bit of a struggle between the da vinci & mermaids, 'coz I love the artwork of both....frankly I prefer the da vinci artwork 'coz it's so warm. However, I chose the mermaids one because I like mermaids and I like the blue colors theme....I love the sea and everything that goes with it!

And YES I did mention this forum in my purchase (I bought it from Alida Store).

So...whilst I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting for my deck, let's share our experiences and feelings about this deck! I've noticed a thread below about the arms and legs missing in some of the cards...ick. Sounds scary. O.O

catti  09 Aug 2003
i made a finacially dubious but emotionally stablizing choice to purchase a mermaids deck this week. the way i see it is the $20 bucks wont make or break me as far as all the bills piling up and i really have been looking for a special deck, watery , romantic, fantasy....mermaids.
now i am waiting for the mail......

Cerulean  09 Aug 2003
But there's a lot of shadows, color, luminous and intricate washes and ribbons/material...etc. I was surprised though, because so many people talked about the deck last year and I didn't hear very many people chatting about it here.
Could it be that everyone is waiting for it?
Hmmm...actually if you pm me, I'll pull it out and do a one card draw for you while you wait!

Hey, great choice!

In spite of the 2 missing arms, I still really like this deck. I love the mood, the colours, and the facial expressions on a lot of the cards. It even has the best LoScarabeo back I've seen yet.

I think I can tell myself the other arm on the 3 of Wands (I love the way she looks at me, still) is resting in her lap.
The one missing from the knight of Pentacles.... Oh well, perhaps she *was* wounded in battle.....?

And I think it contains my favourite Temperance card ever, and the best 8 of Wands I've come across.

No missing legs though, Bighairymonster... At least no more than you would expect in a deck filled with mermaids! ;)

Looks like this deck had a slow start, but I think it's got great potential!

The pip cards are, as they say, 'fully illustrated'. The scenes mostly resemble the RWS ones, only set in an underwater/tidal pool/ocean environment with mermaids in stead of humans.

There are some departures from RWS, of course. I've started 2 threads in the 'general' forum, one of my favourite cards and one of my least favourite, there are a couple of short descriptions (sort of) in there.

If there are any particular cards you're curious about, just let me know here and I'll do my best to describe them! :)

.. and an eye on this deck. I've seen the few scans around and think they are very lovely.

But.. I'm curious. From those that do have this deck now, how is it to work with?

Blessings,

So.... those of you who have had this deck for a while... how do you like it? Do you use it? Read with it? Still recommend it?

Dark_angel  30 Jan 2004
I got this deck a few days ago, and have done some very complicated readings with it; I intended to do nice easy ones, but the deck seems to be one for the big issues, like love, family.

Because it's so similar to the RWS, it's replaced it in my studies with '78 Degrees...'.

I suppose part of my attachment to it could be because I loved the Little Mermaid as a child (until they brought out the sequels - tragic!).

And I didn't even notice the missing arms until I read the posts below. I didn't expect much in the way of legs, but the arm on the 3 of Wands is a mystery. The Knight of Pentacles, to me, seems to be leaning back slightly, suggesting that her arm is behind her, but the absence on the 3 of Wands is almost an anatomical impossibility! Still, like surface folk, mermaids must come in all shapes and sizes. Also, it says in the LWB that the keywords for the card are "Boldness, resourcefulness, inventiveness, trust, optimism" - I think that a one armed mermaid must have these qualities in abundance; it shows that disability of any kind need not control our lives, so long as we accept it and move on with what is important.

I love the Moon in this deck; it's beautiful, yet unnerving. The beautiful mermaid in this picture faces away from us, and has the tail of an alien creature; perhaps this shows how, by emerging into the unconscious realm, we see the less attractive parts of ourselves (below the water, he tail appears to revert to a 'normal' mermaid's tail.).

Cerulean  30 Jan 2004
I am so cold and submerged in things, the water world is not attractive to me. I need it to be dry and sunny for me to enjoy the lush and gorgeous water scenes.

I adore it for color and will keep it for sunny days.

I am running to sunny forests, classic decks and places where the SUN shines.

Brrrrrr...

Glad someone bumped this...I'm still awaiting my Tarot of Mermaids from Chapters in Canada.... I ordered it about 2 weeks ago (although it seems much longer than that) and although they said it would ship in 24 hours it was out of stock. So they said they'd get it in within 2 weeks and ship it to me, and if it isn't in within that time they cancel the order. It's been about 2 weeks now, and no word! This bugs me a lot! They're usually so good about shipping and availability but I had free shipping on that item as I ordered it with another deck, which I got, but if they cancel it I'll just have to re-order and pay the shipping! And I can't believe they didn't get it in, I mean it's not like it's a hard to find deck....I e-mailed them about it days ago but got no response. Grrrr....
