I have only recently fallen upon this deck on the web and can understand why so many reviewers have been blown away by it. I have looked about and it seems to be a very searched after deck. There was some mention of re-issues but the websites that I looked on mentioned no dates so I am unaware if that has already happened or not.
Does anybody know anything about possible re-issues? I live in London ... if anybody can help, let me know.
Thanks

It`s available on ebay at the moment for £20. There`s a thread about it in the Tarot Decks forum.

I forget, but I think it was printed once, ran out. Was reprinted a few years later & those sold out, but many of the second printing of the Vertigo come up on ebay on about a once every week basis or so. Thing is, they go for between $50 and $125 each. HOWEVER I've seen one or two auctions that ended when hardly anyone was looking and the lucky last bidder got the deck & book set for some ridiculously low amount like $15 and $25.
Keep watching, and don't just look once a month--check every week.
It used to be that you could get the deck/book through comic book stores. You MIGHT want to see if one near you can actually order it from a warehouse that may have a stack yet. Couldn't hurt.

I found the Vertigo tarot recently at a large chain music/video/book store, the copyright date is 2001. It is a great deck, only problem is that the cards will not last long as they are little more than thick paper. Does anyone know if the first edition was on thicker card stock? A review said they were a larger size and that wouldn't matter so much to me as these seem large enough, but if it is on thicker stock I would pay the high price to get one.
Also, there are some old threads that mentioned a Vertigo Tarot study group, but I couldn't find one. Did that ever happen? It would be great to compare impressions of this very visual, emotional deck.

Yes, the original release had thicker card stock, and usually fetches a much higher price.
I'm after his 22 Majors only Particle deck at the moment .... Quantum physics meets the gothic artist, LOL

I must have it! I've liked Dave McKean's art and design work for a while but the "vagueness" of some of the minors threw me off this deck until recently. Now that I appreciate decks that don't have over-interpreted minors this is a great reading deck! I like that it is organized visually rather than conceptually, there is a strong visual link between all the tens, all the twos, all the fives, etc. Also the wand suite is so clearly about creative fire, all those *hands*. I never really "got" the wands so well before.
I will have to look more closely at the Particle Tarot, I remember thinking that he should do an erotic deck as some of his nude photos have a strange, otherworldly-mutant-evolution eroticism. Too bad it is only majors. But maybe it wouldn't matter. The Fool card is wonderful, like a dream, like when you were a child playing in strange territory at twilight.

Thanks to you all for informing me about this stuff. I did go on ebay but since I am a student, I got bidded out. I am sure I will get hold of it one day. It does look like a really remarkable deck. Isn't it always the way that when you find something that really speaks to you that you can't get hold of it!

Myrrha,
Yup, I tried to start up a group awhile ago. Some ppl expressed interest, but it never took off. I found numerology to be really really important when interpreting the minors, as they deviate so greatly from the standard Rider-Waite versions. They seem to me to be more.... "pure" than RW in the sense that RW shows you the outcome of the energy, while V focuses on the energy itself.

isthmus nekoi, yes I agree about the numerology. I've only just started to look into this from exposure to the Marsilles deck and it really gives you a "ground level" understanding of the card as number/suite. The system I have come accross relates each minor to the corresponding major, what system do you use?
There is a method of card reading in the book for the Froud Faeries deck where you go through the deck and pick the card that most appeals to you at that moment and start writing about the emotional atmosphere of the card, what things in it could be symbols, and what they might symbolize, what aspects of physical or day-to-day life the card brings to mind, what it could mean spiritually, etc. All of this ads up to "what you are trying to create in your life right now" The Fairies book suggests that you do this before you read the book's card descriptions. I have found it a great way to read with other decks and a great way to get to know the cards even if I have already read the suggested meanings. Maybe we could do something like that as a study group? And/or focus on the minors and look at all the twos, all the fives, etc.

Myrrha,
Oh I'm not sure which system I'm using! I read a really good article about numerology and tarot in the 2002 Llewellyn calendar, and just general knowledge I've picked up after reading a lot of Jung and Jungian material. And yes, I've found linking the minors to majors can be useful.
Oh... as much as I'd love to help organize a study group, I've sort of got my hands full w/the astrology group and moderating!! THat sounds like a good idea for V minors though, I would love to join in...
