I've been considering purchasing the large Thoth deck. One of the "new-age" shops down in Sedona has both of the large size decks... the "Green" and the "Not-green" (as they've been so often referred to on Aeclectic... ;) ). I am curious as to what the difference is between these decks, other than the greenish cast to the borders? Is there a particular reason I might want to consider one (presumably the "Not-green") over the the other? Or is this primarily a matter of personal preference?

for me the not so green was more vibrant and the green one is more washed out for me.
also i found the not so green was more thicker and i liked that feel while the green one is more paper thin and i am scare i might wreck it. ( i got heavy hands )

Hello Trogon,
I purchased the lavender box set. It comes with a book, 'Mirrors of the Soul', by someone (LOL; I can't remember who), and the cards are colourful and minus the green tinge! I think it is published by AG Muller.
I would recommend the more colourful deck over the green one. I had a look over both decks, and I found the colourful one to 'speak' to me more. The images are more forceful. More pronounced. I want to say that there appears to be 'more going on'. Whereas, I found the green deck to be watered down, and to be blunt, quite depressing. But that it only my opinion. I guess it is down to personal preference.

Whatever you do, Trogon, NOT THE GREEN! *blanches*
It washes all the vibrancy of the bright colours out, leaving you with the nauseous overtones of a sickly green. Centaur is absolutely right, it's depressing, even the High Priestess card that looks so wonderful in the online scan of the regular deck.

I also feel that the 'sickly' green tinge does nothing to dispell various superstitions surrounding this deck. It only contributes to an aura of 'evilness'. LOL.

Well... thank you all very much for the very helpful insight. I do appreciate it. The arguments agains the green tinted Thoth were swaying me for sure, but seeing the side-by-side comparison of the green vs. the not-green really clinched it for me. Y'all are right, I think... the not-green looks much better! Well... I guess next payday (or maybe payday after?) I'm down to Sedona again...

Lee, I couldn't see the "green card". I have cards with the grey borders like the ones in thesite you'vementioned. Which is what?

Moongold, it sounds like you have the non-green version. Try this link: http://www.tarotpassages.com/thoth1.jpg
Trogon, hope you enjoy your new deck. I've found Thoth has a wicked sense of humour and is always a pleasure to work with!

I'm trading a thoth in the trading forum, and it's the Thoth from AGMuller (not the greenish version)... if you want to check it in the trading section.

would someone be kind enough to give me the ISBN for the large, non green version? I have the normal sized one (0-88079-308-2) and I love it, but I feel like I'd like the bigger one more.
thanks,
Bill

The large Crowley/Harris Thoth deck published by AGMuller is the one you're lookng for. The ISBN # is 0-88079-469-0. This is sometimes called the Swiss Thoth. It comes in a dark blue box, with a picture of The Magus. The cards are 5 1/2 x 3 2/4 inches.
You might also be interested in the Pocket Thoth deck, also published by AGMuller. The ISBN # is 3-905219-06-9, and the cards are 3 1/2 x 2 1/4 inches. It's the "Thoth To Go" deck!
Both of these decks are available from the AGM AGMuller Tarotworld site.
Hope this helps.

I have the Thoth deck and I love it, I really do. There are some cards that make me scratch my head and go do research, but that's what I love about the Tarot. I'm constantly learning from them.
