Do you Categorize your "Wish List" too?

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 21 Jul 2003, and now archived in the Forum Library.

Molly  21 Jul 2003
I have a booklet I keep by my desk where I have listed all the decks I own. (I star ones I am thinking about trading). I also have another list of all the decks I *want* to own. I know we have all shared our wish lists before, but with all the new releases coming out, my wish list just got longer.... and it is in categories... so I was wondering if anyone else does this too... and please share. http://www.jpc-artworks.com/tarot/majors/index.html

I had not seen this deck before, and when I saw it on Maan's wishlist, I had to google it.

I am now adding it to mine too, thanks a lot!!!! LOL. I going to regret starting this thread, aren't I? I'm drooling.

oceanpoetry  21 Jul 2003
to be published:
Radiant RW

published:
Tarot de Paris
(waiting for the re-issue of this one)

Thoth deck
small version - thoroughly undecided about this one, it is intriguing deck! but I am concerned it might be a little too dark for me to enjoy working with.

Marseilles deck
the Camoin looks really cool! I want to get this sometime. Also waiting to hear more about the special non-coated edition.

Goddess Tarot a definite maybe.

WolfSpirit  21 Jul 2003
I don't make categories in my wishlist - the more I fuss over it the more impatient I get, but I did it for this thread:

On my wish list:
- Viking tarot
- Margarete Petersen tarot
- Tarot 2000 Pagan

On my wish list but not yet published:
- Wizard Steele
- Timeless Truth

Oracle Decks:
- Celtic Animals Oracle (Anna Franklin)
- Shaman Wisdom cards

Maybe's:
- Radiant rws
- New Vision rws

Decks I would like to have if they were reprinted (saddest category :( )
- Rock and roll tarot
- Stick figure tarot

Mimers  21 Jul 2003
yup, I do too. When a deck strikes my fancy, it goes on a list. I then check out reviews and pictures. Find out as much as I can. They then go on either my must have list or my still need to think about list.

I only have two on my must have:
Golden Tarot
Mary el

Still need to think about:
Illuminated Tarot
Gramaud Marseille
Tarot of Prague
Drogi

Gerbear  21 Jul 2003
As a full fledged tarotholic, my wish list is very long. However, my immediate focus is on the;
Mary-el
Tarot of the Crone(on waiting list)
Golden Tarot
Via Tarot
In addition, a friend in Europe is getting these decks for me, as soon as her vacation is over;
Polski
Jasniak
Terapia Slowem
Swietlestej Drogi
Sara
A good friend gave me the Rock and Roll Tarot for my birthday, so another one of my 'wish list' decks will be for her. She is a member, so it must remain a surprise.

darwinia  21 Jul 2003
Independents

- Mary-el
- Ironwing

To be Released

- Leonardo da Vinci (already on order)
- The Golden Tarot

That's it! Nothing else grabs me and I have all the ones I ever desired.

[edited to say that i just bought the phantasmagoric theater tarot--you should never say stuff like "nothing else grabs me." never]

Wildchild  22 Jul 2003
Isn't catagorizing your tarot wishlist the first sign of a tarotholic?

dolphingirl  22 Jul 2003
Of course I keep a wish list and it is catigorized :)

Unrealesed decks:
Mermaid Tarot
Viking tarot
Da Vinci
Witchy tarot
New Century
Radient Rider Waite
Tarot of the Gothic Vampire
Tarot of the Animal Lords

Self Published:
Tarot of Prague
Davids tarot
Stick Figure tarot
Hoose Fey Tarot
Mary El
Hello Kitty Deck
Templar tarot
William Blake tarot

Decks I WANT but can't find or afford
The Granny Jones Deck
Amber Deck

Well I am sure that there are more but those are just a few that come to mind :)

Summerdream  22 Jul 2003
Oh My!!!!
You guys are so organized! I make wishlists but am afraid to say they are no organized...hehe. The only thing I do organize on the list is which I would like first, second, etc.
Sometimes I'll get a wishlist made and read an extra review or two or see different decks and totally change it. I guess it's whatever strikes me to buy it at the time.
Blessings,
Momof3girls

Demonesse  22 Jul 2003

Unreleased:

Alchemical Tarot (by Londa Marks - Definitely)
Golden Tarot (Maybe, maybe not)
Mary-el (Definitely)
Gilded

Oracles:

Madame Endora's Fortune Cards

Unfortunately, this reminds me that I have to almost totally delete my list of decks in the "What decks do you have" thread - most of my decks and many books were all spoilt due to a flood recently. They're all mouldy, torn and cabbage-y now! :(

Molly  22 Jul 2003
<<>>>

I just had to say that I think this is so terrible to hear, I am so sorry! JUST terrible!

WolfSpirit  22 Jul 2003
Yes Demonesse the nightmare of every taroholic !
I hope you got some money from the insurance, so you can get some decks back.

Demonesse  23 Jul 2003
Ah well, thank you both :) but the insurance barely covers repairs and new furniture, so tarot decks are way out of my league now! One member sent me the Hanson Roberts in sympathy though, which was incredibly sweet of her.

I was wondering if a microwave oven might kill the mould. I had a deck that got some olive oil spilled on them. (OK, making spaghetti and reading tarot at the same time isn't the best idea I've ever had.) I wiped off as much of the oil as I could but after a few days the deck had that rancid oil smell. Since I figured the deck was ruined anyway, I put them in the microwave, a few cards at a time. I watched closely so they didn't catch fire. After about three 30 second periods, the cards didn't smell any more. I have been using them ever since. I can still see a bit of a color stain on them but not much. The cards were a bit warped at first but as I used them they straightened out and the warp is hardly noticable. Anyone else ever cook your cards or do anything unique to rescue them from the trash bin?

jema  24 Jul 2003

Chakra Arcana Tarot - Carol Herzer
Illuminated Tarot - Carol Herzer
Jumbledance Tarot - Alexandra Genetti
Mansions of the Moon Tarot - Zadok

Tarot of the Rishis - M. Devlin, T. Dye & S. Johnson Leybar
Servants of the Light Tarot - D Ashcroft-Nowicki, J Gill & A Clark

Will buy - later:
Artist's Inner Vision Tarot - NoMonet + artists
Cary-Yale Visconti Tarot
Golden Dawn Magical Tarot - Sandra & Chic Cicero
Golden Tarot of the Tsar
New Orleans Voodoo Tarot - Louis Martinie & Sally Ann Glassman
Shining Tribe Tarot - Rachel Pollack

and then I have about 45 other decks that I am just interested in.

Molly  24 Jul 2003
Jema,

I just have to say that it was nice to see someone who WANTS to buy the Shining Tribe deck! I LOVE it. So many people say they can't take the art, but look at the Rider Waite.... even if they don't really like the art, they still use the deck or learn the deck, and admit that there is so much to find within it.

The Shining Tribe is the same way... the simpleness of the images leave a lot of room for symbolism and interpretation. The companion book is as wonderful as all of her other books.

Even if they don't like the RWS art, most people will admit that it is a special deck... so that's why I always feel sad when I perceive people being too dismissive of the Shining Tribe... it is something special too. ;-)

Logiatrix  25 Jul 2003
I categorize my tarot wishes in terms of dollars and access:

>Straight trades, only cost is shipping.

>Under $20 and available at a store near work or home;

>Under $20 and available a little farther than work or home;

>Between $20-$40 and available at a store near work or home;

>Between $20-$40 and a little farther than work or home;

>Over $40, rare/OOP, but it is possibly available through trade;

>Over $40 and outside of my scope of availability (I'm dreaming).

I used to keep detailed lists, but my finances have reduced me to kamikaze tarot acquisition techniques. I no longer pay attention to titles--it's all about the money, and how do I get to it?
It's a jungle out there, people!
:D

Molly  25 Jul 2003
Tauni,

LOL! You funny! Also, you may be on to something there, *G*

Logiatrix  26 Jul 2003
...who are you working for?
As of last night, I have completed a List.
I should have seen the signs: make a "wish list," "look at the Shining Tribe Tarot," and so on...It all seemed so innocent!
Dear, sweet Molly, you are an enabler--like Pollux and Diana and Lee...you're one of Them Who Encourages Collecting.
You got me to like you, you drew me in, and before I knew it, I was looking at your deck, then another, and another...
Now I've got a LIST!
The next thing I know, I'll be at the bookstore (AKA: underground tarot-supplier), about to give in to the spell once again. Suddenly, lights will flash from behind me, sirens will blare, and a commanding voice will boom through a megaphone:
"Tauni, we know you're in there...put the tarot deck down and step away from the shelf!"
"I didn't mean to do it, it's-it's-it's...th-those people, on the c-c-c-computer..."
AAAAAAaaaaaaagggghhhhh!!!
No, I don't need help, I need another tarot deck, my precioussssss...
})

tabbycat  26 Jul 2003
Would like, but impossible to get or would cost too much:
Tarot for Cats and the Greenwood Tarot.

Will get eventually:
PoMo Tarot, Ship of Fools Tarot and Tarot of the Sephiroth.

Didn't know I wanted until Brian Williams got me interested in historical decks:
the Visconti-Sforza and the Mantegna.

Oh, and I know I ought to like the Shining Tribe Tarot - I like Rachel Pollack's books, including the Forest of Souls - but naive/primitive art really isn't my cup of tea!
