Hi!
The first Tarot deck i bought was the Enchanted Tarot. I loved it's 'delicate' look and colorful images. And i felt happy after buying it. With this deck, i started my Tarot studies.
Time passed, and the more i studied about Tarot, the less i could use this deck. I was losing completely the connection with it. If i used this one on a reading, i was more likely to get confused than enlightened. That's when i bought another deck, that i use even today.
I feel bad about it. After all, it was my first deck. I've read many storied about how much people love their first decks. I feel...wrong. :(
Anyway, i think that this 'lack of connection' probably happened because, since the Enchanted Tarot is a 'surreal' deck, it doesn't have the classic symbols. And while i was studying those symbols, i could not see nor recognize them on my Deck. Sometimes i even thought that the deck was incomplete...Have i discriminated my deck? Thinking about this makes me feel so bad...i was a real beginner, and a pretty lost one. I felt like i had bought the 'wrong deck' (though nowadays i think it's a completely absurd thought).
Currently the deck is with my mom. She has no problem on using it, she even likes it a lot. I'm happy the deck is being well used by someone i love but still...i feel guilty now and then. Like i've abandoned my first deck.
It sounds like a bad drama movie, sorry. I just want to know if any of you had similar experiences and things like that. Or am i the only one who never really connected with her first deck?
Thanks!

Got the Aquarian back in the late 70's early 80's with the book by Eden Gray. Tried to use that deck for years. Couldn't work with it. In fact it kind of turned me off to tarot for a long time. Then I found this forum, bought the Alchemical, then the Universal Waite, the Victoria Regina, Crow's Magick, the Fey, World Spirit, Haindl, Tarrocco Bizzarro, Ator......

i don't think what you feel is bad or wrong. i have the enchanted but i consider it a more intuitive than read by the symbols deck. you would probably be happier at this point with a deck with more observable symbols like the rider waite smith. there is a section at aeclectic that shows different beginner decks and rws clones. personally, i would recommend the universal waite or hanson roberts by mary hanson roberts. they are more gentle on the eye that the traditional rws. other good choices would the the robin wood, morgan greer or the aquarian.
all the above have what is called illustrated minors. decks that don't use illustrated minors but pips like in playing cards are the thoth and the marseilles deck. all have their devotees. you'll find devotees to all sorts of decks here. there are quite a variety of decks out there to choose from. in fact, if you continue hanging around here, you may become a collector like the rest of is.
please don't feel bad about not bonding with this deck. if you keep working at it, you'll find the special deck for you. be patient with yourself. many beginners feel this way so you are not alone.

I understand how you feel. For a long time, I never truly bonded with my first deck either and I didnt really use it. I did the simple CC with the LWB meanings and such for...like 1˝ yrs. But then I got into it again back in like...April and I bonded becuz I tried to.
But sometimes a deck that suits you now wont as time passes. I dont know this from expirence...but people have said that.
Good luck with your other decks. :)
