I'm watching this deck on ebay.co.uk and wondering if anyone has it, and if so what they think of it.
Or if anyone doesn't have it, and what they think about it ;)
It's all in French. I like French and for me that adds to its mystery but does that make it untradeable?
And the bottom line: should I go for it?

The reviews at TarotPassages are not very encouraging! Apparently the pips are rather...uninspired. :)

As my housemate would say...
Ammty ammty am! (That is the sound made by eating, apparantly.)
I have been looking for this deck for a while, and if itis the one I thin it is, it's very very hard to find...
*Kiama's fingers itch*
FH: You should know by now that if you're going to bid on something at Ebay, not to let the rest of us know! ;)
Well, I'll probably forget about it in the end anyway, since I'm so forgetful these days!

One that I'm looking for also!! From the reviews I've seen, it's only worth it if you are a fan of the science-fiction series of the same name. However it is a very rare deck, and that has its own value.

The majors in this deck are exquisite. I haven't read the books on which the Amber Tarot is based, but even so I do not find it difficult to resonate with the cards; the French titles are not problematic for interpretation (IMO). The pips almost seem to belong to another deck, as they are in a different artistic style (much plainer), but I find them beautiful in their own way. If you don't mind unillustrated pips, I think that this deck is worth pursuing.

If you like a deck with illustrated pips, and are unfamiliar with the rich history of French (Marseilles) decks, you may not like this deck.
If you enjoy a French Deck, with breathtaking artwork, you will love this deck.
If you are familiar with the stories – you need this deck.
It is hard to find. I expect the deck will disappear in the last five minutes of E-Bay Sniping. It could go for a goodly sum of money.
Caution: There is no item descrption with the listed item. Is the rather large LWB included? What is the condition of the cards (fair good or mint?). How many cards are missing? Why is a $300 USD selling for $2.40 USD?
Something may be very wrong with this auction item in my opinion.

The cool thing for me and Fairyhedgehog, is the seller will only ship to the UK... :D

Not a problem when you have friends in the UK.

Well, it's started folks :(
I'm being outbid already :(
Never mind, it was a nice thought.

I always believe that if you see something once like that and loose it, you'll find it again some day. I suppose, if you are anything like me, once you were outbid, you really wanted it - even more!
I looked at the majors on a search and they looked lovely. wasn't so impressed with the minors though. I have a deck called the Prediction Tarot and the minors are as bleak. I never read with it because the deck says nothing to me.
If you do still want it, good luck with your search. It will turn up again.

Well, it's £2.20 (US$3.54) and I'm currently the highest bidder with less than 2 days to go. I shall just have to see what happens ...

Take care. If you really want it, most outbidding on e-bay takes place at the 11th hour or so I've noticed. If you put in a bid that is the highest you will pay, then at least if you are outbid it will be for a price you don't want the deck for. And not because your internet connection wasn't fast enough. It isn't as if you have to pay the higher amount unless someone chooses to bid against you.
People often don't make an opening bid until a couple of hours or so before a deadline.

ps I suppose you know the thing about making your bid a few pence higher than a round number of £'s?

*BLINK BLINK* - is that 2.20(!) or 22 or perhaps 220 pounds? (Or am I just a little dazed from no sleep for 36 hours?)

Good luck!
I love this deck, although I don't read with it, for me it's for the collection only (although I do admit to taking out the cards and oohing and ahhing over them every now and then.) For me, this deck has a lot of sentimental meaning, maybe too much for me to get a good reading, if I chose to use them.
I think it would be a very readable deck, if one was comfortable with non-illustrated pips.

Thanks for the advice Aerin. I kind of knew this but wasn't acting on it, so I shall now put in a bid for my maximum amount.

No, I didn't know this and I shall bear it in mind :)
Thanks.

I lost. It went for £31.00 ($50 US) in the last few seconds. I'm glad I took Aerin's advice, because now I know that I really had bid as much as it was worth to me (and much less than the winning bid - no way I would have paid that.)
Never mind, maybe I'll have better luck next time :) I wonder what else I can find to spend money on ... :)

The Amber is a OOP and rare deck and $50 is quite reasonable. I wish one would show up over here and go for that price.

I speak from experience you see: I lost something once that I would have gone higher on. And on another occasion something by a few pence because the other person hadn't bid in whole £'s but rather added a penny to their top price.
Other advantage is you can't get seduced into a bidding war and end up paying too much in the frenzy, I've known people who do that. They get all war-like and bid higher and higher at the end, and wish they hadn't.

I think it seems like a pretty nice deck. I'd say go for it! But now... it looks like someone already has it... spellbinder42. But it looks like a really nice deck.
