Over the years I have had the Visconti, Marseilles, Robin Wood, Incient Italian and Mategna Tarots.....
I saw the Ancient Minchiate Etruria 1725 deck and it blew my mind. I know it is not supposed to be a "real" Tarot deck, but I beg to differ on this. To me it seems to be an amalgimation of all the decks I've used thus far.
- Does anyone use this deck?
- What are your readings like? Do you have an example?
I know it is said it is not a "real" Tarot due to the ordering, renaming and additional cards, but when I thought about it there are quite a few Tarot decks that have succumbed to the same fate of reordering and renaming.
Anyone want to share?

isn't it a beautiful deck. :)
i really should use it more often, but i still find some of the cards difficult to identify at first glance, so i spend alot of time trying to figure out which card is which, lol.
each time i do use them i am pleasantly surprised. i find that the extra cards can really emphasize another cards meaning. for example, i had a reading with justice and libra right next to it. while i would have payed attention to justice in the reading, libra really emphasized it's importance and left no doubt as to how to interpret it.

I really love this deck and have been very happy with readings done with it. I would have liked more traditional moon and star cards but this is more than made up for by the little vignettes in the minors and the inclusion of the other virtues, not to mention zodiac signs. I *love* that there are no titles, it feels more intimate to interact with the cards this way, as if we've already been introduced. I will PM a reading to you as it a bit long to post but remember I am a beginner at this! :)

That was another thing which appealed to me too.
Firstly I prefer cards that have no titles on them. Like you say it seems more personal. For me the titles always make the card seem as though it is being interpreted by someone else.
The minors are only pips too. I know there are small vignettes, but they are not imposing or a deliberate attempt to give a specific meaning to the card.
The zodiacs and virtues add a deeper dimension to the whole deck in so many ways. If you think about it, it concludes the whole set of virtues from Strength, Temperence, Justice etc to Faith, Hope, Charity and Prudence.
I look forward to seeing your reading.

There have been several posts about the Minchiate deck lately and I am wondering if enough people are interested in forming a study group? For some of us (OK, for me!) reading pip minors is new in itself and then there are all those different cards that are not in tarot books. We could experiment with special spreads (Macavity had a great idea for one) and perhaps share readings or exchange readings as this is really the best way to learn. I would be interested to hear what other people's interpretations of the virtues are, and what system, if any, people use for interpreting the minors.
Would anyone else be interested?

Well I received the deck today.
Most of you know the feeling "welcome home". :D
It is everything I like in a Tarot deck. Not illustrated pips, no words, inspiring artwork, nice size and it has that much more due to the extra cards.
Can't wait to study it further.....

I's be very interested in studying this deck further. As I've said before, I very much like it (in Brian Williams' version too) but I just haven't had time to try to read with it yet. I feel it's only when I try reading with a deck that I get to know it. I think it would repay the effort of some work. So if a study group forms - please count me in :-)

Yay!! Mystique Moonlight I'm glad you found a deck you feel that way about.
Baba-Prague I agree that it is only when you read with a deck that you get to know it.
I got the Star card in a reading the other day and it made me think about how the meaning of it might change in a deck that also has a card for "Hope". The image in this deck, with its sense of urgency as opposed to the calm of the usual Star image, makes me think of ideas like "following your own star", being true to your own deeper self, your own path, as well as the suggested meanings ("Blessings, benedictions, good news, splendid developments..") which relate to the idea of the three Magi. But so many cards (to me) seem to have this as part of their meaning, they can't all mean that!

I use the same system as I do for Marseilles or Thoth, that is the Otz Chiim (Tree of Life) correspondence for the Minors and Courts. It makes sense to me.
But with the renumbering of the Majors it has me in a bit of a quandry. I want to sit down and plan them out on the Paths as they are with their current numbering. What I will do is lay out all the Majors on the paths corresponding to their numbers and then with the Virtues. Elements and Astrological cards I will lay those on top if I need to.
Hhhmmmm. Of course if I can not relate them to the Otz Chiim then I will base them purely on their numerical value, but I think it will be quite interesting to see their relationship to each other on the Otz Chiim.
I'm gonna have to get back to you guys on this one :)
