I already got that one in my collection and it is really worth getting it.

nice to see you to catlin, you've been away longer than me ;-)

oh and yes that deck is sooo worth it. it is the one and only marseilles deck that doesn't give me headache after some time... i am a blue-ish person anyway so hadar deck was meant for me ...

Hmmm, I see M. Somerville is out until the 21st. And doubtless deserved! ;) But it is indeed a nice company with which to deal plus with quite the "personal" touch...

Anyone have a convenient "comparative" link with pictures that include the Hadar? Me and my poor Camoin just never seem to have quite "made it" - And I DO aknowledge my own contribution to that... })

Kissa: Welcome back! Does this mean that summer is over already?

Kris Hadar's deck rocks. I would only trade it for another Hadar deck. :D

On top of it, Monsieur Hadar is a perfectly wonderful person.

WARNING: Personal opinions follow. :)

The Jodo-Camoin, a beautiful deck, bugs me sometimes, due to some of its added details.

With all due respect, though, the Hadar deck (which ostensibly appears to be a Conver patterned deck) and the liberties Hadar takes, especially with card titles, bug me even more!

For example, Hadar's title for the Queen of Cups, "royne de coupeS": I just can't get used to that, as the mother of all Conver patterned decks, the Heron Conver 1761, has it as "rEyne de coupe" with no "S". To my mind, a Conver court card, to be true to the Conver tradition, shouldn't have any pluralized suit name except DenierS.

And what's with Hadar's titles, Chevalier and Vaslet? The Heron Conver 1761 has Cavalier and Valet. Like for the Queen, Hadar is into achaicisms not found in the 1761 Conver. Kind of spoils things for me.

Thanks for the heads up, Kissa. I just placed an order.

I opted for economy postage, so in six to nine weeks I'll get a nice surprise in the mail! :)

And what's with Chevalier and Vaslet?

rusty,
royne de coupes is the same as reyne de coupes, both have coupes in plural. or do i misunderstand you?

and please tell what is with chevalier and vaslet?

my personal opinion, i find the hadar deck great to use, the camoin not so great after all. though the camoin was my first marseille deck, and opened the door to others, which i like better.

Hi kaz ... I made a typo in my initial post. Thanks for pointing it out. I have now edited my initial post to correct it so as to note that the Hadar title is "Royne de Coupes" while the Heron title is "Reyne de Coupe" (no S).

I have also edited my initial post to fill in about Chevalier and Vaslet.

Rusty Neon makes valuable comments...

I share the view that the Conver is such a fundamental deck, that Heron publishing house should, by that account alone, have made an absolute fortune by printing a deck which every Tarot enthusiast would probably benefit from owning... and which many do not, unfortunately, as yet have access to.

What I specifically like of the Camoin are the fine attention to detail - even if I personally do not agree with each of these, as mentioned in my review. Hadar's deck also has, to be sure, aspects I would personally like to 'improve' on. These two decks, however, remain on the whole true to tradition and detail, and each has produced a deck with its own peculiar beauty and charm.

Given the importance of the Marseilles pattern (by this or any other name), that newer 'versions' appear will deepen our understanding of Tarot, as each picks up certain characteristics others either omit, modify or blur.
