I am behaving very strangely today.
Normally, I'm not a Tarot deck buyer. Apart from Marseilles decks or historical stuff.
And today, for some strange reason, I went and ordered this deck.
http://www.aeclectic.net/du-chat/index.html
I didn't order it from Tarot Garden, because I wanted the book that goes with the deck, and I don't think it's stocked there. And that is another strange thing. Normally, I'm not interested in the books that go with the Tarot deck.......
Have I been bewitched? Or becatted? Can one be becatted?
Another thing... I do not have the budget either. I'm going to be in the red, and I hate being in the red (my Virgo side).
I love Carole Sédillot's books which are not translated into English, unfortunately. Perhaps that's what gave me the final push. (She's a great Marseilles specialist.)
Well, I'll let you guys know what it's like when I get it. :)

It certainly looks like a cute deck. I will be glad to hear your comments. I have two decks based on cats and I quite like them.

Yes, be sure to let us know how you like it. It looks like one I might be tempted to break the budget for. And yes, you've been becatted. Enjoy it, lol.

Diana, I have this deck and love it. The pips are more Marseilles-style than RWS-style (they don't really tell a story, and are characterized more by numbers of suit objects than scenes), and I find the illustrations adorable. I hope that you will enjoy the deck, and do let us know what you think!

i have the deck and i love but unfortunately the book is in french and i don't read a word of it. if i had known you wanted the book, we could have worked out something so you could have mine. i got mine from tarot garden incidentally. i was "becatted" in 1985 and my life has not been the same since. LOL now i try to collect everything cat that i can. of course, hubby put a cap on 4 living breathing cats. ;)

Diana,
I have just been reading "The Cat in the Mysteries of Magic and Realism" (originally 1920s but my copy is 1956). Clearly you have been taken over by an emination of Isis - this is probably not a bad thing - go with it!
My cat seems to often try telepathy on me, particularly if I cook pancakes in the morning (she adores pancakes for breakfast - as well as cat food, she has a hearty appetite!) One morning it definitely worked, as I dropped a pancake at her feet by accident - one happy cat that day [:-)
Anyway, the book I'm reading has a whole chapter on cats and telepathy. It says that for a cat to influence a person telepathically "the pure idea must be conveyed from brain to brain unclothed in a garment of words, and with sufficient distinctness to overcome the confusion that might so easily arise through the absolute difference of the angles from with such unsimilar beings as a man (sic) and a cat must view the same object".
I leave you to make of that what you will!
Enjoy the deck - and please tell us more when you get it.

Oh truthsayer! If only I had known.... but how could I have guessed that someone would have the French book on these forums..... Do you do readings with this deck?
Well, maybe Kissa would be interested in the book. Kissa??? Are you reading this thread? Are you planning on buying Le Tarot du Chat (you like Carole Sédillot too, don't you?) Firemaiden? Someone?
baba-prague: Thanks for that wonderful quote from your book (don't understand it, but it's wonderful anyway. :D ). Your cat is a very funny cat to eat pancakes for breakfast. Watch out he doesn't get too fat!

not just a cute deck...
I love the progression of the images.
Needless to say, I had to have it...without the book.

I also have that deck (I needed to get at least one cat deck last year when I did not have had the chance to get a still highly searched and wanted Tarot for cats). It is really nice.
Truth, you will not regret getting the Mermaids for that book.

Darn, I was hoping someone here could read French.
From what I can piece out from my knowledge of Latin (close enough to French, right?), it appears that the pips cards do have significant illustrations in the sense that the cats' body postures have meanings that express numerological aspects. A considerably more subtle approach than that of the RWS and Thoth. Very expressive of cats, however, because body posture is how they communicate!

Pagan X: If you tell me which page you are referring to, I will translate the passage for you. I have never read the book properly, only skimmed through it.

OMG!!!
never read this thread before!
went to watch pics on the link provided by Diana, there were some on Tarot Garden too...
it is sold out on TG and expensive from France...
Diana, do you, Marseilles fundamentalist and proud to be so, REALLY use this deck????
The cards are really beautiful. I don't like the font used though. But thru my little experience, i've learned that scans can feel pretty different from the real pack.
Kissa
PS: now Diana, you are supporting my addiction, you are aware of that, aren't you?? Proud of what you've just done??

Kissa: Tarot fundamentalists are able to recognise a good Tarot deck when they see one. :)
Ask Umbrae what he thinks of the Tarot du Chat.

Kissa...all the decks at my disposal, and I own this one.
To the rest of the world, Umbrae admits...he owns (and uses) a 'cute' deck.

How did you guess I care so much about this darkness creature's opinion?
;)

The one that ate my tongue?
This is getting weirder and weirder... ;)
I watched a few more scans on Tarot Passages and i understand why Umbrae mentioned the progression in the cards. Very interesting indeed...
Diana, have you ever seen the Tarocchi de Vetrate for real? Scans? There's an old thread i bumped up recently about it, if you have something to add, you are welcome. I know it is not hum... fundamentally Marseilles but ... })
Oh, one thing again, is the Tarot du Chat available on Tarot Garden just the deck with a thick LWB or the set, as available in France?

Do you mean the Tarocchi di Vetro? By Elisabetta Trevisan? The one that is translated as the Crystal Tarot (why names of decks have to be translated beats me!!! especially if they're translated badly. How will anglophones ever learn other languages if everything is always translated?)
If so, that's my favourite non-Marseille deck. I use it frequently. It is a very intelligent deck as well as being beautiful. (Beauty is not enough when it comes to Tarot. A deck has to have brains as well.)
But the Tarot du Chat has brains of a CAT!! And that makes it very special indeed.

The du Chat I recently received from TarotGarden recently was two packets of cards and a proper paperback book.

Nanana... I mean the Scapini's Stained Glass tarot. I already knew about your love for the CRYSTAL (?!) Trevisan's tarot. I have to go back at it but if i remember properly, i was irritated to see that some cards show the original picture from the wrong side (like in a mirror?) as the artist's signature appear reversed. That's high trahison to one's artwork to me...
Anglophones don't need to learn any other language than their own. If they do, it's because they want/enjoy to... I didn't have to learn finnish, one can cope almost perfectly with english in Finland. The Vetrate by Scapini is not translated (cards in italian, how cool...) but LWB (big) multilingual.
Pagan X, thanks for the info. I'll check when it's back on TG.
