I was making my regular check of Tarot Garden's Pre-Order Page when I found several new decks listed at the bottom of the page that will be coming out next spring! Yay! More decks! :D
I like the miniature versions of the New Vision and the Egyptian, and the Buddha Tarot by Robert Place. I have already pre-ordered them, and by the time April rolls around I'll probably order the Tarot of the Druids, too!
Of course, now we have to wait nearly six months for some of these decks. Sorry to pull at all your little Tarotholic heart- (and purse-) strings! ;)
Peace,
Melvis

Ok, I'm definitely ordering at least two from there (I'm being incredibly strict) - probably the Pagan and the Tarot of the Druids. I so want the Vampire one as well, it would go with my other three Vampire/horror themed decks! Oh well, maybe if I speak to the bank manager very very nicely...
The Witchy Tarot looks cute too, though probably more something I'd buy for my niece if she expressed an interest. Reminds me of Sabrina the Teenage Witch for some reason, which is by no means a bad thing, I adored Sabrina when I was younger! Hmmm, might have to get it for nostalgia... oh no! a nineteen year old talking about nostalgia - I need to get out more. lol. xxx

Thank you Spoonbender I now like the Pagan Tarot even more.
So here's a question about Lo Scarabeo decks... do they focus too much on perfect human physique. Take for example the second card shown with the woman at a desk/table surrpounded by books doing reasearch. I assumed it was probably the 8 of pentacles and thought that I really enjoyed the take on it but for a second had to question the woman's cleavage in the picture.
Now I am one of the world's least prudish people. I am not for a second suggesting that it is inapporopriate to show sex or sexiness in a card. However it seems like in Lo Scarabeo decks a lot of the emphasis is on busty, beautiful women. There are exceptions, the Olympus tarot for example has about the same amount of nekkid men as women and I thought it was just wonderful. The Avalon Tarot didn't have this same balance. Does anyone feel like this is a sorta mysoguny light? My favorite deck in the world is Lo Scarabeo's Secret Tarots and I have many clients remark on the women in the deck and I have usually just said "It's a European thing" and moved on.
I guess I'm just looking for a balance. For example I liked that the Decamerone had lots of men and women whereas the Casanova or Manara sexualize women almost exclusively. Most of the people I read for are women and if a deck i work with has a bunch of buxom wenches looking up at me i worry it will bug them. I have been known to overthnk things a bit and feel weird when most of the people in a deck are white... ok this response now feels like one of those times where you are talking on someone's answering machine and can tell you've gone on too long and aren't making sense.

The Fey by Mara Ogham, Egyptian-styles by Silva Alasia, Tsars, Da Vinci, Giorgio and Elissabetta Trevisan and Secrets by Marco Nizzoli have more artistic 'stylizing'. Many of the historical stylized decks by Lo Scarabeo do not show the modern comic art book or illustrated novel preference for a large body types, especially chesty males and females.
They started out in comic book publishing, so many of their modern artists do illustration in that genre.
Tarotgarden.com has an interview of last year under articles by Riccardo Minetti, but I don't know if the comic book angle was discussed too much.

I think it really is a "European thing." I've corresponded with Riccardo at Lo Scarabeo on this issue, and they don't view it as sexism at all. It was hard for me to understand their point of view, but that's probably just due to cultural differences. He did indicate that Lo Scarabeo would be changing direction in this regard, and that was a year ago, but it takes so long for decks to go through the production process that we probably won't see a change for a while yet.

of the Egyptian Tarot book and deck by Sylvana Alasia. The set on Amazon.com has the same cover and book design as the set shown here:
http://www.sevenrays.com/catalog/describe?0738704482
You might get it cheaper off of Amazon.com or
http://www.booksmatter.com/b0738704482.htm
What I like about this design is it reads similar my Marseilles/Milanese Italian decks. The Ibis Tarot booklet has similar meanings, although I like the designs of this deck better.
So if you enjoy Egyptian art themes, this might be an interesting twist....

BTW LoScarabeo plans to release a kind of Thoth clone in 2004.
It is still in the creation process but as I was informed it seems to be terrific. Already ants in your pants?

Hello everyone,
one of the reason I totally disappeared from the forum is that we have been overworking. In about 15 days we will have completed the 2004 catalogue. (should I be able to breath again?)
Anyway these are going to be the LS Tarot deck for 2004.
- Pagan Tarot (by Wicce, Raimondo and Spadoni)
[p.s. for caitlin. mario told me about your meeting in frankfurt. we are waiting for your comments regarding the witchy tarot]
- Tarot of the Druids (Vigna, Lupatelli, Baraldi)
[a celtic themed tarot with a more light harted approach]
- Golden Tarot of the Renaissance - Estensi Tarot (Berti, Atanassov)
[a gold tarot based on the tarot of carl the vith, restored and compelted]
- Liber T - Tarot of Stars Eternal (Negrini, Serio)
[a crowley based deck, with full minors. (my personal favourite, right now)]
- Tarot of Atlantis (Vigna, Rotundo)
- Native American Tarot (Tuan, Tisselli)
- Gay Tarot (Bursten, Platano)
- Dragons Tarot (Toraldo, Baraldi)
I hope I will be able to publish some preview images as soon as I can.
----
Regarding the way to balance the gender bias in LS Tarot deck, it's a very long and difficult process. I'll try to get back to it as soon as I can... :))) [actually i should be working right now. see you later!!]

Is it Lee Bursten who is consulting on one of the tarots? How exciting.
And I am eagerly awaiting the Estensi Tarot scans...a good New Year!

MM RiccardoLS,
I did not forget Mario but I am still polishing the e-mail (had some computer problems, too) as I wanted to go through the whole deck now. I hope to have that finished this weekend and sent it out on Monday directly to Mario.
BTW did you realize that the Mini New Vision has a misprint? The tower card is missing but there are 2 moon cards instead, one with the wrong title of the Tower. Could you pl pass this on to your co-workers in the printing?
Give my best regards to Mario. I always enjoy meeting him at the fair. BTW I did some more promotion for your decks on the Frankfurt book fair as I was asked at the Berk-stall to do some more readings and they were so in love with the LoScarab decks I used (Mario knows which decks I am talking about).

I remember you saying something about this before! Is there any place we can catch a glimpse? Can you give us some detail about it?
So excited for you.

I really like Animal Lords, this would be an excellent deck when reading for children.
Leonardo, the men all look like they need more fiber in their diets. But I like both of the decks. Putting it on my Christmas wish list. Santa, stuff my stockings with cards!

This was going to be the year I abstaind from buying more decks! The dragon, pagan and gay tarot are just gonna be coming my way no matter what.... and Atlantis and teh Stars Eternal have really good chances. I didn't have any Lo Scarabeo decks until about three years ago and now my two main reading decks (Secret and Fey) are both LS decks. Consider me a convert.

I saw that in their catalog but I think I get more information from this website than I would from the annual.
