Oversized Decks

Dear Aeclectic Tarot Forum,

I love the look of an oversized Tarot deck, but I can't find any I really love. I would deeply appreciate it if you could direct me to any. I love the decks that have the standard width but a larger height.

Thank You So Much!

Hmmm....

The Rohrig Tarot is nice and large: almost the normal width, but definitely much taller!

Thank you so much, but that's not really what I had in mind. I don't like the whole modern theme.

Both the RWS and Thoth come in large-size versions (the first is known as the Giant RWS). In both of these decks, I believe that the cards are proportionately wider and taller than their standard counterparts.

The Medieval Scapini, although not really medieval, has an 'old' look to it and is quite large.

Pics at: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/medievalscapini/index.html

and probably at www.tarotpassages.com as well, but that site was temporarily unavailable when I went to check.

I don't have it but I think that the Victoria Regina Tarot is a large deck, The Goddess tarot is another and the Light and Shadow tarot is very large.

The Enchanted Tarot by Zerner and Farber is the deck that I use and it is quite large. That deck has a victorian and romantic style, all done in embroidery, painting and collage.

On this link, the scans aren't as clear: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/enchanted/index.html

On this link, the scans are clear, but it is the smaller version of The Enchanted Tarot, the Zerner-Farber, but note that The Enchanted Tarot is prettier, wider and, unlike the Zerner-Farber, comes with a pretty separate book as well: http://www.wicce.com/zernerfarberpix.html

the photos don't do them justice, but you might like the visconti sforza. they are number one on my wish list right now. the deck is 3.25 x 6 inches. (do not confuse these with the smaller, shiny gold visconti.)

One of my friends has the Tarot de Paris, and I'd describe those cards as tending toward the large side...plus they are gorgeous.

The phantasmagoric theater has rather large cards.....

Pollux  27 Sep 2003
HAINDL!
It's HUGE and has a sort of modern but rather... drunk and visionary imagery! :D

Check the pics cos it is AWESOME

Logiatrix  28 Sep 2003
The Nigel Jackson Tarot is "Old World" style, very attractive, and tall but not overly wide...

truthsayer  28 Sep 2003
the illuminated tarot by carol herzer has a large size. it's a recolored version of the rws. i have the medium which is about perfect for me since i don't have large hands. you can see examples of it in the deck section. there is also a link there that directs you back to her site.

Cerulean  28 Sep 2003
The historical Giant Dotti is big and comes with a booklet in Italian. It's the Di Vecchi edition from Tarotgarden or Alidastore.com or Trigono.com.

If you like Shakespherean themes, there's a big and pretty, witty and could be twice the price of a $20.00 deck, the Romeo and Juliet by Scapini.

If you also like a Shakespearean theme with a big, medieval look, quotes, and don't mind a 'semi wood' look, there is the "Shakesphere Oracle" that I found in a Barnes and Noble in Redondo Beach when I went to visit family. It was $35.00 and not billed as tarot, but has many attributes of standard suits, but the pips have quotes on them instead of pictures.

A. Bronwyn LLlewellyn was the writer. It is available through Barnes and Noble in the U.S. , but only listed on amazon.com in the UK.

the inner child cards (REALLY BIG)...took the liberty of copying this link for you:

:smoker:

SongDeva  29 Sep 2003
The Ancestral Path is generously sized.
I like big ones too; have Inner Child on the way, so I was
psyched to read that! :)
Yes, the Godess is pretty large, more in width than in height.
Same with Ancestral Path.

Also, just thought of this : Celtic Wisdom is HUGE, and has
no borders, so pictures look even larger. Great one.

Another: also HUGE, pehaps even bigger than Celtic Wisdom,
is the Baseball Tarot. (like $4.95 at bn.com)

SongDeva  30 Sep 2003
Hold on....another one: the Sacred Circle is very large.

And non-tarot: Crystal Ally deck is 4X6 and gorgeous.

SerenityRose  30 Sep 2003
Yep yep, THe Sacred Circle is large and gorgeous! ;)

My friend who sent me this deck said she could barely hold it on her hands, so I'm supposing it's large. Once I get it, I'll let you know how large it is ;)
