i don't know if any of you have this self-published deck by alison stone. for those of you who want to try out self-published decks but can't afford the more expensive ones, this one only costs $20 then $3(i think for S&H). the card quality looks professional like you'd get from a publisher-not laminated. the cards don't stick together. the major arcana are reminescent of the rws but done in deep primary colors of red, yellow and blue with some greens, oranges and other tones. for those of you who don't like the gentle pastel tones of the universal waite by mary hanson roberts or the colors by pamela colman smith, this deck may be more your speed. if i think of a deck this deck reminds me of, i'd have to say the glastonbury. the minor arcana aren't illistrated like the rws. they remind me of the thoth for their boldness and some of the designs used.
the deck is deckscribed by stone this way,"colors evoke the spiritual and emotional meanings of each card". i'd have to agree with that. the depth of colors would suggest this is a dard deck in that the readings are likely to get to the root of the problem so to speak. i can't see this deck giving a light fluffy reading. i particularly like the sun card on this deck. the image is of a large sun in the background. the sky and foreground are tones of dark blue. a boy and girl hold hands. there are large sunflowers in the mid and foreground.
i ordered it a week ago via snail mail and it is already here. i was sent an email when the pkg was sent. i do recommend this one. anyone else have it? what do you think?

I have to agree with you truthsayer, this is a strong, evocative deck. The cards are reproductions of paintings that the artist has done. It's been cooling in the back of my shelf for a few months, maybe it's time to get it out again.

I have this deck for about a year and I love it. I've had some really on the ball readings with it. As Truthsayer says there is no fluffiness with this one, it tells it like it is and doesn't pull any punches.
If anything I prefer the minors to the majors, I'd call them 'moody', they're not illustrated but they're not pips and yes they are very reminiscent of Thoth but without those annoying keywords :).
The colours on certain cards can be a bit garish (I'm thinking Judgement in particular) whilst on others they just seem to glow (the stars on The Empress's headdress).
My favorite card is the 4 Wands, I think it looks like a stone circle as if you were lying in the middle looking up. I also like the Ace Pentacles which is a dandelion in seed.
I've used this deck regularly since I got it, it's one of my favorites.

Oh this is a really beautiful deck, I guess I am gonna have to order it, and add it to my collection. My question to those who have it. How does it shuffle? You she I am a shuffler, its a bad habit, but I am always shuffling my Tarot. Does it shuffle nicely, or is it a delicate deck. Also since it is not laminated, would you guys recommend laminating them, or keeping them as is. Last question, what size is the deck, is it large, normal Tarot size or small. I personbally like normal, to large decks. As you really get to see ore detail within the cards. Question to Sulis, or whom ever wishes to answer this question. If the minors are not illustrated, nor pips, can you give me a bit more info on how the minors look. I saw the decks on the link given, and some here at Aecletic, they remind me of the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot.

Thanks for bringing this deck to my attention, I really like it. I can see how it reminds you of the glastonbury, but I think I like this one even better. The artwork looks nicer (all in my humble opinion of course), the colours look really lovely warm and vibrant.
I will have to add it to my wish list !

Hi Voodoo_Shaman,
You used to be able to see all of the cards from the Stone Tarot at aonglobe.com but the site doesn't seem to be working now.
To answer your questions:
The card stock of this deck is a little thin but it's very durable, I've had it for about a year, use it quite a lot and it's holding up very well. The box is a different story, it's a really strong box but it has a clear polythene lid which falls apart very quickly.
Although the cards are not heavily laminated they do have some sort of coating, the cards have a soft sheen.
The deck measures 5" x 3.25".
I've just had a quick look at your link to the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot and I think that the minors of that deck are probably done in a similar style. There are no people in the minors of the Stone tarot and the scenes give a general feel for the meaning of the card, very intuitive IMO and very cleverly done. some of the cards are incredibly beautiful, many of the cards in the Cups suit look very much like the paintings of Claude Monet, 'Waterlillies' springs to mind.
If you like very bright colours and you don't mind minors without scenes I'd say that you would probably like this deck.
I like the fact that it's independently published and so there aren't thousands and thousands of them about.
It's a shame that there's no book for this deck as I'd really like to see what Alison Stone has to say about some of the images used - a very simple leaflet with just keywords comes with the deck.
Hope that's helped.
Love and light

here is a review of this deck by wicce. she brings up something interesting that i forgot to mention. in the swords and wands, the page is female and knight is male. in the cups and pentacles, the page is male and the knight is called an amazon and is female. i like this change as it makes the deck feel more balanced gender wize for those of you looking for gender balance like lee.

I just received my Stone Tarot, they are lovely, am very happy. They are an amazing deck especially the major. But there is one problem, out of all the suites, I am just not connecting to the wands. They seam dull, and do not inspire me as much as the rest of the deck. But besides that it is a really interesting deck. One I will probably not use, but am happy to have in my collection.
