Hi everyone!
Well, on my newbie thread I've mentioned I was getting the Sacred Circle tarot as a gift from a friend. This tarot is the one that called on to me, and I've got it today!!!!!!
It's beautiful, I love it. I'm currently cleansing it and I'll blend my own energies with it soon, but I was wondering if anyone here has it and uses it? I'll start reading the book (it's a huge book! heh) and dealing with cards, maybe doing a comparison exercise with my Rider-Waite.
Anyway, if anyone here uses the Sacred Circle tarot, that would be nice to know so I could go to you guys in case of doubts!
Cheers!
MissB.
PS: It is a huge deck, I can barely hold it, and my hands are long ;)

Hi SerenityRose, congratulations on your Sacred Circle ! It is a beautiful deck, I have it but I don't use it much for readings. I have done readings with it and it worked fine, but it took a little getting used to the renaming of the majors. Also, I switched the High Priest (magician) and the Druid (hierophant), as the druid has all the objects in front of him the magician would use.
If you do a search for older threads you will find that others have switched these cards as well - you don't have to but it seemed more natural to me.
For me, this has always been a great deck to use for meditiations.
And I think the book with the deck is very good as well.
Some of my favourite cards are the Lady, the Moon, the Tower and the Shaman - but I think there are lots of pretty cards. I had never thought I would like a photo collage deck until I saw this one.

There was a talley a few months back, of the decks owned by Aeclectians. There were 39 of us with the Sacred Circle, so someone here should be able to answer your question. I have it, but don't use it for reading.

I get the impression you're very excited about your new deck. I have it too, but I don't use it much. I guess I have my own favorites.
Your enthusiasm is both refreshing and charming.
Wishing you the best,

Hi Serenity Rose,
The Sacred Circle deck was my first deck, and my experiences with it have been different than some of the others who have posted here so far. I attribute this to the fact that it was my first deck; therefore, I had no standard with which to compare.
For instance, most everybody who's posted mentioned that they don't use it for readings. I did for a few years, as it was the only deck I owned. Your're right: the book is fairly extensive, and that was *very* useful for me, just starting out with tarot. Needless to say, I also didn't switch the cards around, as again, I had no standard to comparison.
In terms of readings and card meanings, I'd say it really comes down to how much of a purist you are. If you're overly bothered by decks that stray moderately from traditional tarot (I say moderately because I do not consider SC to be an extreme departure), then you may not want to read with it. I've very much enjoyed it for doing readings--I think it offers quite a bit.
Feel free to PM me with questions, or whatever.

THanks everyone!!
Requiella, I know this is the deck for me. The very fact that I could feel it in my house would let me know I chose indeed the tarot that I want to work with.
I have a Rider Waite too. That's how I started learning the tarot, and I've taken a look at the cards and although they changed some names, it's not that complicated cause I'm a Pagan myself, so the names have a meaning to me or at least I can relate to.
Thanks for offering me to help! I'll sure remember that once I start on my readings!
Cheers!

The Sacred Circle was my first deck and I still love it. At first I was confused by the High Priest and the Druid until I decided to switch them around like WolfSpirit says. I enjoy using this deck for readings. I get very good results with it.
If you have any questions about this deck you are in the right place to ask them. :-)

Yeah, well, I think the Druid/High Priest only poses doubt cause the Rider-Waite picture of the magician shows him with all the four suits and all...
But I'm not sure, I think I'll leave it as it is.
And yeah, it's gorgeous. I haven't had the time to read with it yet, I'm getting a feel first, and I'm gonna read the book! It's huge!
Heh thanks for the help, everyone. I'll be posting my doubts as I get them :)

Hi. :)
I was almost a complete beginner when I got my sacred circle tarot. I thought it was powerful and beautiful... but I think it was too narrowly themed for a beginner. I love the celtic culture, but I'm not wholly expert in it, so the sacred circle was hard for me. Since I'm still not a very experienced taroist, I still prefer to read universally themed decks, such as the Thoth or the Quest Tarot decks. I still do like some personality in my decks, however... which is why I don't really like the rider-waite.

It is not typical for rider-waite, very many decks show the magician with all his attributes, as he can master all suits...
Enjoy your deck and keep us informed how it goes !

Scheherazade,
I know what you mean! That's why I got a bit of experience with the Rider-Waite first, although I don't like it. But it does explain the cards with the pictures, and the Sacred Circle doesn't do it often. Besides, there are lots of Pagan references to the Sacred Circle that non-pagans might find hard to understand.
But I love it! I'm still getting the feel of the cards, but I think connecting the meaning that came with the book and the meaning I've already been using, it'll be fine.
Wolfspirit, I know it's not just the Rider-Waite, but that's the one I have at least. :)
