I am collecting gold and silver foil decks and I am partial to Rider Waite clones. Does anyone have any suggestions on what deck to purchase?
I already own:
Golden Tarot of the Tsars
Mantegna

| Astraea |

Lo Scarabeo's Nefertari deck is lovely.

Here's a link to Lee's excellent review: http://www.tarotpassages.com/nefertari-lb.htm
Unfortunately, in all on-line scans that I've seen, the gold foil photographs black; the cards have to be seen in-person to be fully appreciated.

Visconti Gold!
Not a RWS clone, but still an important deck to have as a collector.

Im not sure but would the medieval scapini be considered a gold foil deck??

There's a lot of gold in it (like the Gilded Tarot) but it's not an applied foil type deck. Still, I think it would qualify, it's 'rich'.

Hi Mystic Zyl

Major arcana only deck: Adventures in Tarot_ by Paul Vaccarello
I think if they still have this deck for sale it will set you back a bit.
Anyways I love this deck :D

Thanks, all for your input.
Gerbear, you just like to see me spend my money, lol. I always feel a little guilty when I bid against you on Ebay.
Maud, that is a very beautiful deck, but it is out of stock, but I'll keep checking back to see if it is in. Hope it is not over $200.00.Thanks for the link.
HudsonGray you are so right about it being rich, I hope to add it to my collection soon.
Jewel-ry I have Medieval Scapini, it is a beautiful deck.
Catlin, I have both of those decks, I love and use the Tarot of the Tsar as my own personal reading deck. As for Magtegna, I am still trying to learn the meanings of the cards, so I can play the divination game with them.
Astraea, I just bought those cards yesterday after viewing them on the link you were kind enough to provide.Could you get any more gold on them?
Tauni, I have ordered the Visconti Gold, I already own the two extra large Visconti decks, so I will be familiar with the images, thanks.

in 2004, in another thread, Riccardo Minetti said that another gilded tarot will come out.
It may be called the "D'Estensi Tarot" or the so-called "Charles VI," as it is based on a misnamed Ferarra deck that most likely was first printed in the latter part of the 1400s. (According to Michael Dummett, Game of Tarot)
Best of luck!
I have seen older decks with coppery tints and metallic inks...the Romeo and Juliet by Del Negro--but this is in the style of the Medieval Scapini, where the brillant colors and the sheeny background is bright, but not hot-stamped with gold or silver foil.

Mari, a penny saved is a penny earned. Thanks! I envision my piggybank's sides exploding!
It's raining pennies!

The Dali has gilt edges, maybe you also want to count that deck in.

Yes Dali has lots of shine....but I am not going to buy this deck. I feel the price is too high and the art work is so-so. The publisher should be ashamed of putting it out in a get rich quick plan.

Another deck with 'shine' is the Kazanlar Tarot. I can't vouch for how close it is to RWS.
Luckily, shiny decks don't draw me as unluckily I'm mildly allergic to metal foil and metallic ink.

Thanks Rusty, I clicked over to see if that deck was on this site and it was. I like the rich colors and the India theme. I am adding this to my collection soon!
