just got a new deck! -- Light & Shadow

Hi.
I'm still relatively new to tarot (and very new to Aeclectic!) but have been using the Thoth, despite it's complexity, because of the beautiful artwork and it was the only deck that "spoke" to me.

I'm excited about the Light & Shadow deck. It's a nice composite between the Thoth and RW (might help me learn a little quicker ;) ), plus it has a distinct style of it's own. So there's a familiarity about it, yet certainly new and less intimidating than Thoth. The cards are kinda huge in size, but all the better to enjoy the beautiful woodcut-style artwork.

Does anyone use/know this deck? I'd like to hear experiences/thoughts about it -- positive or negative.

Hi rubricat,

I too have the Light and Shadow deck. I like it very much although I confess I have not done a reading with it yet (too many decks to play with!). There is a lot of very subtle symbolism in this deck. When I was considering buying mine I asked the same question. I have tried to link this thread for you so try this www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18259. If it doesnt work you will have to do a search and you will be able to read all of the answers to my thread.

Enjoy your deck!
Let us know how you get on.

I have the Light and Shadow deck and I like it very much, I enjoy the black and white decks, especially the Hermetic. I've only used the deck minimally, the card stock isn't very sturdy and frankly, I'm afraid it won't last long if I do. I hope you enjoy the deck, it's a great addition to my collection.

thanks jewel-ry ...
Mine's still a little too new to be as responsive as Thoth, but will definitely keep working with it. I'm certainly captivated by the symbolism and artwork, encourages me to study the cards more thoroughly and get my own interpretation instead of going directly to the printed description in book (more gentle that Thoth deck too!).

firestorm,
I know what you mean about the flimsiness of the deck. Altho the cards seem to be more durable than they appear. One of my cats seems to be attracted to this deck and likes to walk on the spreads! He's stepped on cards, kinking them a little, but they've to my surprise the cards seem fine after bending them back. Thin yet resillient! I hope you'll decide to use the deck more often.

Just checked out the Hermetic deck -- looks interesting. What is it about the B&W decks that attracts you?
Somehow the symbolism seems more direct. Maybe I get distracted by colors!

Has anyone of you ever seen Eclectic Tarot? It's really amazing, especially Major Arcana. I've had this deck for almost 2 years now. If you have a chance check it out.
Agathe :o)
