Tarot Deck without a Book

Hello Everyone,

I'am new to the Tarot, and I only had one deck until today..I bought "Motherpeace Round Tarot" from a thrift store for only $3.00..Unfortunately,no book came with it.

My question to all of you 'advanced' tarot practioners is..."Will the interpretations in my Rider_Waite deck help me with interpreting the readings with this Motherpeace deck?

Thanks In Advance :-)

i think it will help but i think that the motherpeace has a system of meanings unique to itself. if you look around some of the half-price online bookstores you may be able find an appropriate book or perhaps if you put something up for trade in the trade section someone might trade you a MP book.

It may help, but another thing you might want to do is just get to know the new deck, draw your own interpretations from the cards. After all, all decks are unique.

Hello Owl,

I have found, thanks to some terrific advice from some of the good people here, that journaling each card is extremely helpful.

Meaning, to study each card and write in a journal the images on each card, and as Dead Star says, draw your own interpretations, writing down how each card makes you feel.

I have found that by doing so, I have become better aquainted with my cards and we are now very personal with each other.

Umbrea has some wonderful insight.

I feel that the cards mean what they mean regardless of the author or deck. That is why you may take a regular deck of playing cards to do a reading with. Once you have bonded with your cards and feel the certain energy it emotes all you have to do is add you own intuition. To me the Sun card has the same meaning if it is Rider Waite or Golden Tarot of theTsars. I am not claiming to be an expert, but I will tell you I am a popular reader in my community, with many repeat customers that have come to me for years.

Thanks to all who responded, all of your responses were great :-)

But,I really like this suggestion from Mystic Zyl.

It sorta' resonates with me,and for someone like me,it seems easier :\

Thanks again

Thanks, Owl!

I'd like to offer an alternative to "the Sun card means the same thing regardless of which deck you use."

I see Tarot as a language, and each deck as being somewhat akin to a dialect of the language. The general concepts are similar but each deck adds a certain spin or nuance to the general meaning. I use the specific image in a specific deck to help me interpret the nuance. It might be color, or number of people, perspective, or any number of subtle differences which might color my interpretation.

In addition, the context of the question also helps me shape the interpretation.

If the Sun always means the _same_ thing, it might be "easier", but may result in rather static readings.

Your mileage may vary.

Thanks All,

But,I found the book today!
It is more informative than I thought it would be..There are Astrological and Chakra associations in it.

Very helpful information :-)

Thanks Again

I was just going to say that I ran across the book at Half Price Books today at 2pm, it was $5. But since you found it already, guess the problem is solved.

Owl  04 Nov 2003
Thanks Hudson :)

That's odd...The book that I bought was $5.00 also...But because I had a store discount,I got it for $2.50 :))))

We have to get into Owl's How to find a Discount class.

since the deck doesnt have a book...maybe you can use that deck when you want to practice relying soley on your intuition and read them just by the pictures and the feel of the cards.

Since i've gotten the book and perused it..I have come to really like it a lot. The information on the Chakras and the astrological associations that are related to the Tarot, are invaluable!!

Until,I come across another deck that provides more information, this is it for me ;-)...I think that this has become my favorite deck :-)

I'm really impressed by it.
