Greetings!
I was just wondering if anyone knows about how much these are worth nowadays... if anything? I looked on ebay and couldn't find them anywhere. I might consider trading the Norse at some point as I don't use that one at all.
Norse Tarot book and deck by Clive Barrett
Songs for the Journey Home
Thanks in advance for any assistance. :-)

I regularly see the Songs for the Journey Home deck on Ebay, one copy just sold for around 50 dollars US, which is the retail price at many of the merchants I've seen out there. It is still in print.

While the Norse tarot is out of print, it's only going for $5 on ebay in the 'buy it now category'. That's pretty cheap.

HudsonGray, if you are referring to this auction of the Norse, you should scroll down and look at the shipping charges. On this auction the shipping is $125.00 US! This seller has a bunch of auctions going on, and all of them are boobytrapped in this manner. The rationale appears to be charity, but still.....

O dear, my heart almost jumped when I read about a Norse going for $ 5...thanks for the warning Le_Corsair.
I think ebay should have a rule that shipping costs have to be within reasonable limits, this is ridiculous.

Charity for this deck? Hmmm, why isn't the charity listed. Who is going to deduct the charitable contribution on their income taxes?? Him/her? Not right. I have emailed them to find out more info. Will post if I get an email back...
edit: typos on a laptop...happen often.

Good for you Tallarico! I'd be interested in his replies.....if I really thought you'd get one. Obviously, he's had more than a few complaints judging from some of what he DOES say. I'm willing to bet his "charity" is his own family. Keep us posted.

For those who think they are being ripped off on Ebay.
With the volume of listings they can't check each and everyone as it is listed. They rely on Ebay members to help police the auctions.
Ebay does have a rule about reasonable shipping and handling charges... and the use off high shipping charges to avoid paying fees associated with a sale. To me that is what seems to be going on here if the seller is being honest with what their listing claims.
File a complaint about it. This would fall under the "circumvention of fees" rule. Below text copied from Ebay's "what we investigate"
************************
Circumventing Fees
Users may not avoid eBay fees
Users may not use systems or techniques to circumvent eBay fees.
Examples:
Offer outside of eBay - offering the opportunity to purchase the item or other merchandise outside of eBay through an item listing.
Unreasonable shipping or handling costs - listings with low prices but unreasonably high shipping or handling costs.
*************************
Ebay does investigte complaints. They also pursue rule and legal violations. We had to talk to federal investigators and provide a signed affidavit for a fraud case case against an individual we once purchased something from.

The publisher Element is reprinting several of the old Aquarian/Thorson's decks like the Merlin and the Arthurian. They've already reprinted Clive Barrett's other deck, the Ancient Egyptian. I would say it's at least a good possibility that they'll be reprinting the Clive Barrett's Norse Tarot as well. So, while it's still possible they may not reprint it, just be aware that it may not be a good bargain to pay big bucks for the Norse at this point.

HOLY COW!!!
I didn't go into the auction, just looked at what was posted up about the Norse. This guy is insane!
I got taken once for a $13 shipping charge on a 4 ounce item it cost $1.24 to mail. I know there's people who make extra cash by adding/padding the shipping (especially when they do NOT insure it or anything) but this $125 charge is ridiculous. I reported the guy. That's plain fraud. It doesn't matter if he's up front about it, a 'forced' charity is NOT legal.

I think he should give to the charity of Retired Tarot Readers@needmorecards.

Thanks everyone for the wealth of info. :-)
I never use the Norse. I received it in another trade. Looked through the cards and they just don't resonate for readings or anything else with me. I'll have to go check my closet to be sure of it's condition. I received it in another trade. I beleive if memory serves me correctly the outer box is pretty worn but the cards and book are in good shape. I'd be happy to consider offers of other decks or cash if someone here really wants it. I promise not to charge $125 shipping. :-P
I bid on an auction yesterday for what I thought was a Zelda nintendo gamecube game. They had a pic of the game and everything. Well, it turns out it was for information on how to buy it. I took a chance and retracted my bid. I have excellent feedback and have never retracted a bid before so I don't think anyone will hold that one thing against me. Anyway, I don't feel sneaky ads like that should be allowed either.

Noticed that the auction on the Norse Tarot says that it was ended early because of an error in the listing!
Outragously high shipping charges amount to fee avoidance in Ebay's eyes, and since they are a company for profit, it tends to get their notice pretty fast when it is reported.
I thought it was amusing that he was asking another $10 to ship outside of the U.S. on top of the $125!
The guy is a pretty recent buyer/seller (at least under this user name). If he keeps up these tricks, he'll be soon an non-registered user.
Rollie pollie, upside/down auction indeed!

Hi,
I decided to go ahead and try to auction the Norse since I'm not using it and no one had offered to trade here. The deck and book are in fantastic shape. The link for my auction is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2970765420&category=19271&rd=1
I wasn't sure what to start it out at as no one really seems to have an idea what it is worth right now so I chose $50 just because it is out of print right now and the deck and cards are like new. If it goes up that's great. If not, that's great too. At least someone (I hope) will be able to use and benefit from them. I put the shipping and handling at $5.00 for Priority shipping within the Usa. ;)
Thanks again to all who offered info and advice. It is much appreciated.
Blessings & Light,
Sky
